I would just get a new battery, you arent supposed to actualy operate the computer while those pins are shorted as it can do damage. Go nick the battery out of an unused pc :v:
All of them are empty :/ Well, I MIGHT find one.
I'm not suprised you arent getting any video while it constantly flushes the cmos.
I'm not suprised you arent getting any video while it constantly flushes the cmos.
I set the pins like they were before? It has always worked like that. I know that they have been like that for a year now. Always has worked.
I've bought a few motherboards that had the flush jumpers in the active position, not one of them booted like that.

Luckily now you can just boot a live USB flash drive and copy the neccisary files onto local storage. To be honest, I don't think I would be comfortable doing that either...
Okay, I have a story to tell, except I am the content. So, my friend has an old computer laying around. Apparently, the computer's software or OS or something (he was sort of vague) was borked, and he asked me to fix it. I didn't think it was any big deal, just format and install Linux Mint. Anyways... I get home, take the power cord from my computer, and plug it into the computer I got from a friend. Turns out I forgot to take the end from the power strip out, so a huge spark (It may have been multiple, I'm not sure) flies out, really loud noise, I freak out, and pretty much handle the computer like a sleeping bear. I understand the problem now, I had no idea that there was such thing as different power supplies :v: [editline]11th October 2011[/editline] It was supposed to use a 185 volt instead of the 200 something volt which I had.
I was playing around with the clock settings on my graphics card and trying a bit of trial and error while seeing how it would react. Out of curiosity I set the clock to the maximum that the software would allow. I clicked apply and suddenly the screen flashed and went completely green. Instant panic. I ended up having to force it to shutdown and reboot. Luckily the card is still working like nothing ever happened.

Where is 185/200V even used? USA = 120V EU = 220-230V
what185 instead of 200 volt? what are you talking about
I plugged a 200 or so watt power cord into the machine instead of a 185 watt cord. Sparks flew out. I learned something new. (I meant watt, just mistyped. Goes to show how horrible I am with electricity.) It was a pretty simple computer, too. A HP Compaq Business Desktop dc5000 Small Form Factor. That's utter bullshit.
Wait, that was the power supply. I have no idea what's going on, just that some power cords are needed for different computers, and the one in the back of my working computer says "300V", and the other one says ~200V. I don't know shit about hardware. Here's the specs: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11876_na/11876_na.HTML

After half an "rm -rf /", that would've been incredible.
The cord doesn't make any difference. (Except when you get into high end PSU's: 800w and above cables will be thicker to prevent them from melting) [editline]11th October 2011[/editline] Spambots :effort:

How bad was the sparking? Because there is always a spark when you plug something in, just sometimes it's louder than other times.
Well, it turns out it was a Power "Power supply overload (crowbar)" according to an HP manual I found on the computer (red light blinks 4 times). Currently trying to figure out how to get this working. If I can't, no biggie, I was never told to do anything with the hardware and was warned that it was old and gathering dust.

That'll teach it for breaking!

At such low wattages any PSU will do
Use anything that you have lying around and has enough connectors. At such low wattages any PSU will do
Problem is, I don't have any "lying around". Again, all I have lying around are a bunch of random Linux CDs and various thumb drives. Would Best Buy sell them?

Funny thing, I did have a space PSU lying around since I replaced the one my current computer. I just need to figure out how to take a metal chunk of the inside casing off so I can access all the screws to take the old one off.

Click on the actual logo and not the helmet (or event related image) and you'll be fine... [editline]12th October 2011[/editline] :ninja:
Wow, because of my graphics card and the fact I can actually game now, I haven't checked any sites I normally go to all day.

Where could I get a power supply :V:
Since that PC is a small form factor machine, it has a proprietary PSU. I have something similar that I got from my school, it seems visually similar to the machine you have. It seems to be running pretty hot, even after reapplying the thermal paste. Getting a new PSU for that thing won't be as simple as going to best buy and getting some $40 power supply to shove in there, it simply won't fit. You either need to find a similar computer or get a replacement PSU off eBay. To be honest, it's not worth the effort / money to get that thing going again, considering you can get a "decent" P4 machine for free these days. Don't spend a lot of money getting such an old thing going, you'll regret it.
Pornhub?
Nah, I check that on my phone before bed. :v:
