Note to self - when you have a Gentoo system, MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE IT EVERY SO OFTEN. Otherwise you're going to have to use `revdep-rebuild` to get anywhere and it's going to list off like 20 different packages to rebuild. The worst part is Qt is one of them :gonk:
Since that PC is a small form factor machine, it has a proprietary PSU. I have something similar that I got from my school, it seems visually similar to the machine you have. It seems to be running pretty hot, even after reapplying the thermal paste.Getting a new PSU for that thing won't be as simple as going to best buy and getting some $40 power supply to shove in there, it simply won't fit. You either need to find a similar computer or get a replacement PSU off eBay. To be honest, it's not worth the effort / money to get that thing going again, considering you can get a "decent" P4 machine for free these days. Don't spend a lot of money getting such an old thing going, you'll regret it.
Yeah, opening the thing up, it's a metal box fitted along-side the side, and it's just not going to be feasible as you said. Besides, the PSU I have doesn't have enough cables and some of the plugs for the cables are different sizes. I'll just tell my friend that the PSU is borked.
Oh man I am awesome. I've told you before about my school's Network Security Club, and how we all absolutely suck at everything. I have absolutely no training in routers. IOS, as of this morning, was completely foreign to me. They'd talk about various commands, and I'd have no idea what they were doing. I figured eventually they'd stick me in a Routers class and I'd learn all about it, so no worries. Today, I got bored. I grabbed a copy of Cisco Packet Tracer, which is basically a full-blown network simulator. And I managed to build (at least in simulations) the network we've been trying to build for months - six servers, a client, four switches and two routers. I even configured a freaking serial line! DHCP on everything, all cables set manually (ie. I didn't let it auto-pick the cable types - I manually chose which to make crossover and which to make straight-through). Basically, in a few hours of practice, I was able to do what trained professionals have failed to do for months. Sure, I did it in a simulator, so I didn't have to deal with shit like routers with bad NVRAM or broken cables or wonky serial settings, but I also had absolutely no idea what I was doing when I started. By the end of the night, I hope to make the sim run IPv6.
Cisco IOS is easy shit, it doesn't take a professional to figure it out.
Cisco IOS is easy shit, it doesn't take a professional to figure it out.
Yeah, it has been relatively easy so far, but I'm still impressed that I got this far on my own, when a group of people who are literally studying for their Net+ certs haven't been able to get it working.
So I was watching the house episode on DVR from last night... And hmm, this seems weird...

What sort of jobs are high-paying in the technology industry? I've been learning the basics about these things (currently installing Gentoo on a VM to learn more about the internals of OS stuff), and am leaving my options wide open.
I need to grow a beard big enough to contain a week's worth of soup and find myself a UNIX sysadmin job.

Its hard to see an advantage to picking AMD over Intel though. My Core 2 Duo is showing its age now a days, 4.0Ghz dual core just can't keep up.

The only good thing out of all this is older AMDs should fall in price. In other news Windows 7 can still play really old ass games without the need for XP mode Now if only I could get roller coaster tycoon to work.
Fuck, Blizzcon soon. WATCH ALL THE PANELS
green on black is a nice touch
ooh, found the other one that does the same thing, but in the guise of my old chatbot. I toyed more with color changes and taught myself the integer based responses http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10572953/sky.bat remember when there were like 20 solid pages of us coming up with random stupid stuff for these in v2 of this thread? :v:

was it that long ago? fuck :v: [editline]12th October 2011[/editline] REG QUERY HKU /s would be much cooler for these if it printed the output slower
Core i7-3960X EE with 166 MHz BCLK and 57X multiplier can reach 9.5 GHz Like all Extreme Edition, Core i7-3960X EE will be delivered with unlocked multiplier. When Core i7-3960X EE with 166 MHz BCLK is combined with 57X multiplier it can be overclocked to a whopping 9.5 GHz, which is the maximum theoretical clock frequency that can be achieved under extreme overclocking techniques with special cooling under liquid nitrogen or liquid helium. Core i7-3960X EE can easily cross 4 GHz with Standard Cooling 9.5 GHZ is almost 1 GHz higher than the 8.43 GHz which was achieved by AMD Bulldozer (Guinness Record!). However, we do not know whether it is possible practically rather than theoretical overclocking. But Core i7-3960X EE can climb above 4 GHz easily with standard cooling, so it’s upto Intel to prove it practically whether the high end Sandy Bridge-E processor can beat the recent Guinness record made by AMD Bulldozer.
This is an awesome story.
Probably the best (or worst) prank to do to a sysadmin would be to type in rm -rf /* (don't execute it) and press ctrl-C.
So, is that new AMD 8 core FX chip worth looking at?

I have some Asus software with my motherboard that crashes when I boot up the computer (it even crashes when you just wake the computer up from sleep, what) and I can't uninstall it because the uninstaller crashes when you start it. Goddamnit.

Oh, and so far I have 4 Compaq EVO D510's :hehe: There are still 18 left, heh. [editline]12th October 2011[/editline] And yes, I will build a tower out if them, like somebody (fatal error?) suggested.
Is there a notepad replacement program that doesn't allow horizontal scrolling? I use notepad and notepad++ alot (but mostly just notepad) and it just hit me that I have to lower the font to a stupidly small size or horizontally scroll and it's very annoying.
Notepad2 has word wrap. [editline]12th October 2011[/editline] It can completely overwrite notepad as well, so anything that would open in notepad, will now open in notepad2.
