nano ftw
Nano is awesome, an absolute must have
I'm glad someone brought this up so I don't have to ask out of context, but how do I enable line-numbers in nano? The closest I can get is Alt-C which shows the number of the selected line.
Try nano -c

Doesn't seem to do anything.
I've been thinking about getting a new PC, so me and a friend came up with this.

Thoughts? SSD is mostly a placeholder though, I don't know shit about SSDs. :v:
Disliking the case, but thats just me. And what do you need "montageframe" for, doesn't most cases have atleast one 2,5" slot?
Seems nice, but the 1300€ pricetag scares me.

I'd suggest a 2500k instead of a 2600k, not much of a performance gain unless you do video editing/graphics design or stuff like that. If you game the 2500k is a better choice, roughly same performance in gaming as the 2600k but cheaper.
I'd also recommend getting a cheaper motherboard, the high end stuff is mostly gimmick stuff and you could save a bit of money there if you want.
1600mhz ram is so cheap it's pointless to get anything less, 8gb total is a good idea though.
Definitely get a better PSU, I'd recommend Corsair, particularly their TX v2 series. Around 650w if you're getting one graphics card is good, get 850w if you plan on getting a second graphics card.
1TB hard drives are pretty bad value, you get more space for your buck if you get 2TB drives.
Also I'm not a fan of antec cases but that's a personal taste thing, I recommend Fractal design cases or Corsair cases, they're good stuff.
And lastly since you're getting such a high end processor an aftermarket heatsink would be a good idea, I heartily recommend Noctua here, the Noctua D-14 is one of the best heatsinks on the market and Noctua fans are pretty much top of the line quality wise.

Case isn't definitive either, but I want something clean, not something like that looks like Alienware.

Stupid website derped and suddenly I was logged out with an empty cart. I'll try getting something new based on your advice.

I've ordered my pc at alternate too (Came up to about 1200) and imho it's better than what you put together:

Hehe, my Amstrad CPC464 is working absolutely perfectly, it's in better condition than the stand alone one I had before. Galactic Plague can go fuck itself, who makes a space invaders clone where they can fling like 15 projectiles at you in one go???

[editline]13th October 2011[/editline]
My other 464 and RF modulator are going on ebay, as well as Galatic Plague, someone else can beat the shit out of their computer playing that.
So I had a genius idea the other day
Take an Alienware case and rip all the LEDs out. Hook them up to the outside of the case and have them turn on when some big failure happens. And only then.

Again with the 1tb drives, 2tb drives are way better value and any performance loss due to higher platter density is outweighed by the fact that you're using it for storage anyways and since you're booting off the SSD it's gonna be fast enough anyways. I also don't agree with that PSU but that's just cause I've never heard of the brand before.
Revised. How's this?
Get some 1600mhz ram, the motherboard from Goz3rr's post, a 2TB hard drive instead of a 1TB drive and you're good to go. I also still recommend an aftermarket cooler since then you'll be able to overclock the shit out of that 2500k. Again, the Noctua D14 is one of the best and not terribly expensive.
Get a spinpoint F3 1tb instead of the WD, why spend so much on a motherboard that adds no features than a cheaper one? Get a Z68-G45 or P8Z68-V LE or GA-Z68XP-UD3P.
And get an after market CPU cooler, Hyper 212 Evo is great bang for your buck, will get you 4.5ghz easy, 5ghz in some cases.

Stop telling him to get a 2TB drive they're 5400rpm, who wants a 5400rpm drive for anything but storage.

The PSU is Silverstone.
[editline]13th October 2011[/editline]
and yeah, 1TB Spinpoint F3 > any 2TB drive, you're not going to put all your games on the SSD.

Stay away from 5400rpm drives imho.
Silverstone is a good brand. Just like XFX and Corsair.

I forgot to include it, but i had a H60 in my build, and i'm loving it. Hyper 212+'s have been out of stock for weeks.

I'm probably not going to bother with overclocking. And a friend said that I couldn't use 1600 MHz RAM with the CPU I went for.

Real watercooling loop, masterrace.

That's silly, of course you can use 1600mhz ram.
Also to all you others, yes the 2tb drives are 5400rpm but they're for storage since he's buying an SSD, why is it a bad choice?
I'm probably not going to bother with overclocking. And a friend said that I couldn't use 1600 MHz RAM with the CPU I went for.
Your friend is dumb, and just buy the k series CPU because it barely costs anything more and it's surely going to retain its value better.
That's silly, of course you can use 1600mhz ram.

Because he'll get two or three games maximum on the SSD if you include the OS and everyday programs then you're stuck with blistering fast 5400rpm speeds for all your other games, it's a bad choice, get an F3.
Also make sure you get a 700w/750w power supply, 700w gives you enough room for two 6970s comfortably.

Because the Drive isn't used for storage, it's used to load your programs/games off.

This. And I have an 1.5 TB external drive as well.
Hopefully final build. All these different opinions and preferences are confusing. :v:

Looks good except get a Crucal M4 instead of an agility 3, and I'd get a GTX 570 myself though, or atleast try get a 6970 without a squirrel blower..

which wont make much of a difference since the OS is running off of a separate drive, you're still gonna get good performance.
Though, I see where you guys are coming from. 2tb drives are still better value but yeah performance is important.
Oh and 700w for two cards is stretching it if there's gonna be overclocking. With overvolting and powerplay settings the card alone can approach 300w from what I've read in benchmarks.
Real watercooling loop, masterrace.
Silly, you went with a new screen. Not watercooling
Because the 'Quick questions that don't deserve a thread' thread gets 3 answers a week, and they're often completely unrelated to recently asked questions, I ask facepunch - What's a good Graphics card in the $400-600 range? I have a GTS 450 at the moment - really just looking for better fraps framerates in ArmA 2. Yes I have more money than sense.

I haven't kept up with news but from what I understand the AMD 7 series is coming around christmas, if you can manage to wait, that is. From what little information there is it's gonna be something spectacular.
At the moment though, both AMD and Nvidia's offerings are pretty close in price/performance so just get something with a good cooler if you want to overclock.
