I've never timed my boot up but It's around one minute.
There is one thing OS X has that I would absolutely KILL to have in Windows: the boot speed. Seriously. OS X, you can turn it on and be working within 30 seconds. Getting my Windows boot down to four minutes was an improvement, and everything still runs slow for a few minutes after that.
My system boots in about 40 seconds but I should clock it.
also deeps you never answered my first question:
what's wrong with the thinkpads other than the fact that they're a bit thick and they're "ugly" in your opinion?

are you running windows xp on a 10 year old PC that hasn't even seen a reinstall because that's the only way I can see windows taking 4 minutes to load
Vista. 3-year-old gaming laptop - 4GB RAM, Core 2 Duo, GeForce 9600. Did a full format/reinstall less than a year ago. Defrag regularly - I once got it down to 0% fragmentation.
also my charger has never had to been replaced, it works fine for me, I dunno about your chargers though
How do you do it? My charger insists on shorting out on me. In fact it seems like it's shorting out AGAIN.

While the multitude of driver issues and such that made everyone hate it have been resolved, it's still the OS equivalent of a morbidly obese guy stuck in a vat of lard. 2. Fragmentation isn't really gonna change much in the way of performance unless it's pretty damn high. 3. Just make sure you haven't got a shitload of stuff starting up with your PC; get into MSConfig and nuke half the stuff in the startup tab.
and it's opinion that osx is more locked down in what you can install on it?
are you serious right now? Are you saying that OS X says "oh we're not going to let you install X thing" which is blatantly false, while true for iOS though
and it's opinion that osx is more locked down in what you can install on it?
yes it is opinion, as in it's not a fact
1. It's vista.
2. Fragmentation isn't really gonna change much in the way of performance unless it's pretty damn high.
Trust me - the bottleneck is entirely in my hard drive. Any slight increase in speed there will help.
3. Just make sure you haven't got a shitload of stuff starting up with your PC; get into MSConfig and nuke half the stuff in the startup tab.
I've already done as much as physically possible there.
yes it is opinion, as in it's not a fact
i meant in terms of operating systems, sorry i wasn't clear on that
I highly doubt 7 is a drastic improvement in this regard. Trust me - the bottleneck is entirely in my hard drive. Any slight increase in speed there will help. You should update anyway, it feels a lot less like a reskinned XP with a bunch of bloat added on.
Nothing is perfect, bro. I'd just prefer to use a nice looking product over the pieces of shit you seem to be jerking off to.
You use macs because "they are shiny", "they look good", or in your exact words, "nice looking product". Okay, if I had a great computer that never crashed, and was fucking pink with hello kitty and Justin Beaver stickers on it, I wouldn't care. It works, I'm not buying a computer like I would buy art to hang on my wall. Even if Apple computers worked better than Microsoft computers (for my tastes), I wouldn't necessarily pay twice as much money for one.
46 seconds from end of post to full desktop, including selecting which windows install and typing password. I need to turn on quick post on my motherboard, it shouldn't take 30 seconds. This is on a standard 1TB 7200 RPM drive.

My Crunchbang partition is really fast, though.
that's an opinion, I like the design better than Windows, but I still like windows too whoa are you kidding the UI is excellent, I'm not a total fanboy but the UI is very slick
Why is it that whenever Apple is discussed on these forums you jump in from literally nowhere and just start taking your side? Are you like Beetlejuice or something? Do you have an alt account named "Apple" and keep the ticker open? I don't get it. [editline]23rd October 2011[/editline] World's shittiest superpower.
I'm sorry, I read this thread is all and chrishind does the same thing except bashes apple :v:

To be honest, I think Vista boots faster when I dual boot on my macbook than OS X does :v: of course I do have a LOT of startup stuff on OS X though, but Vista is actually really fast (at least for me)
I forgot how mature you guys were. Oh wait... [editline]23rd October 2011[/editline]
I'm sorry, I read this thread is all and chrishind does the same thing except bashes apple :v:
Don't forget Fatal-Error as well.
Deeps' version of mature: "Your opinions are all garbage, and mine is a fact."
Deeps' version of mature: "Your opinions are all garbage, and mine is a fact."
No, it's called ending an argument and not kicking someone out and banning them for TRYING TO END IT.
I forgot how mature you guys were. Oh wait...
It's like you're trying to talk behind the chat's back or something.
actually no you weren't ending it - that isn't how arguments work. You can't just say "well guys let's just end this face it i'm right your wrong but let's end this." and you call yourself mature

thanks mate but i didn't have any part in that - doc loq can do whatever he wants. I'm speaking for myself
thanks mate but i didn't have any part in that - doc loq can do whatever he wants. I'm speaking for myself
And it's totally not like you guys haven't done the exact same thing: "Deeps ur wrong shut up faget" etc.
i don't do that unless you're pulling your 'i'm going to take my stance and fuck everyone else, i do not require any proof' bullshit
Take it up in private for Christ's sake.
which you pull so often i'm beginning to wonder where you're getting more - is this like that magician's handkerchief that he just keeps pulling and pulling from his pocket?
