End his process...
Gee, I never knew ending the system idle process sped up the computer! Pff, all that spare 95% CPU and 24k of RAM going to waste can now go to running my games instead. What a con by Microsoft!
Woo, just got selected for SamKnows (EU-wide broadband testing program, comes with a free high-end router)!
Small font rendering (although chrome does have verrry nice large font rendering, although not a lot of pages use large font so...) and css3 things like rounded corners and box shadows don't render very nicely, in fact even IE has better rendering, which I find hilarious.
Chrome has the best font rendering of all the major browsers, what are you talking about?

yay, my dad said he'd probably buy my video card, and he said he'll buy my current one for $50. I'll get RAM with that money then. Does RAM use a lot of power? The 6850 uses 500 and the 965 uses 125, and I only have a 650.
RAM puts out very little heat I'd say something like 2-4 watts per dimm.

They're apparently usually the most efficient at 80%
Also, there's no way a 6850 can use 500 watts The PCIE slots max is 75 watts The 6 pin PCIE is 75 watts and the 8 pin is 150 watts
Oh I'm stupid, 500 minimum or something like that it said
Oh I'm stupid, 500 minimum or something like that it said
That's what wattage PSU it recommends. Your 650 is more than enough.
Alright, I need advice. My laptop's been having issues lately. It will randomly shut off, HARD, like the power supply just dropped dead. It mostly seems to do it while I'm moving it (picking it up, etc) but not always. When it does, it will refuse to power back on. Pressing the on button does nothing. Holding it does nothing. The solution I've found it to unplug it from AC, remove the battery, and then wait several seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on. That much isn't news to you all. That was just a recap. I've said it before, asking for advice; nobody here could figure it out. But, I got to talking about it with my boss today. She had the thought that it could be the CMOS battery dying. That does somewhat add up - it's obviously a power problem of some sort, and the thing is old enough that it makes sense. However, I've opened the laptop up several times, and don't remember seeing one. And Google is returning surprisingly vague/unusable results for "asus m50 cmos battery", which leads me to suspect that perhaps it doesn't have one. And I'm reluctant to just pop the thing open and search for it, since I have a very bad history with laptop surgery. So my question is "does her advice make any sense"?
Sounds like there's a short somewhere, something must be moving around inside.
That's what I thought at first, but I haven't been able to find anything.

Shouldn't a dead CMOS batter only reset the BIOS whenever the computer is turned off? As long as you have power connected and don't restart, the CMOS should be powered. I can't see how that would make the computer turn off. That is just a guess though.
Sounds like there's a short somewhere, something must be moving around inside.
This.
Pepper;32998554']This.
Second this. In fact, I once attempted to measure the voltage on one of my laptop's USB ports... Boy, did that thing turn off fast. I had to take out the battery for a few seconds before it would start up again. It reacted just as gman described. Don't short your USB ports kids. (Or anything inside a computer for that matter.)
Actually gman, maybe inspect the USB ports?

Also the computers have this weird plastic "cone" on the back, hard to describe, so people can't pull out wires. It comes off stupidly easily though.
OK, so check really, really hard for shorts, both internal and in the USB ports. Got it.
Fuck, I've had no internet for the past two days, some assholes cut all the wires, nobody in my neighborhood has had TV, Internet, or Phone.
