Yeah. Microsoft made a deal with OEMS to enable Secure Boot by default and not allow an option to disable it, absolute bullshit.
The deal was: Do this or you don't get Windows.
they're gonna get sued again
they're gonna get sued again
Let's hope.
Microsoft's gonna get slapped with the antitrust stick again

You're forgetting it's AUD, he still makes more.

Great, I persuaded my brother to build his own PC but he refuses to buy Windows 7 as its too expensive and is just going to pirate it.

You've got most of the work done, now get him to buy W7.
The operating system is a very vital part of a computer, it's worth it.
Microsoft should just stop selling Windows licenses and have microsoft.com point to a link of a search on Thepiratebay for "windows 7 microsoft office".
I realize how ironic my above post was, posted from linux :v:

By the way, wingless, i am looking for Facepunch people to play Diablo with. Drop me a PM if you want to play.
For me, I'd never use windows ever, if they didn't force themselves into the market with some really BS tactics and hold their APIs closed source, forcing developers to either develop their games twice or stick with windows. Why should I pay for a full price OS when all I want is access to the games?

Then don't pay full price. Do you know where Microsoft makes a fuckton of money? Businesses and OEMs. They couldn't care less if AzzyMaster's brother downloaded a copy of Windows without paying for it, since in the time that took to download, Dell probably convinced some insurance firm to buy 2000 new computers running Windows 7 Professional and Office 2010 Professional.
Does Adobe expect the 14-year-old kid who wants to learn Photoshop to break down and drop $1000 on thier software? No, they probably know that when the guy finds a job that requires him to use Photoshop, he's going to get a licence from that place of employment.
Even if you want to still buy Windows, you can probably find someone with a TechNet or MSDN account who can give you a legitimate licence key.

Don't forget education discounts can bring the cost of Windows down a lot.
Sorry for not being clear enough, what I'm saying is I don't want their OS at all, free or paid. I just want compatibility with my games.

Games are the only thing keeping me from hopping over to linux.
I can't be arsed with dual booting and WINE seems like it's buggy and introduces massive performance problems, from what I've heard anyway.
Talking to amazon now about a replacement for the monitor. Don't fail me now, ammy.
True, if the software support existed.
There is not one good reason to stay on Windows.
Well I got an email from my web host asking me to renew. I'm not sure if it's worth it anymore after all the trouble I've had last month. I could just host it all on my home server, though I'm concerned about the shitty hard drive I'm using as a boot drive.
Still, I have a ton of disk space and bandwidth for $25/year, which may be worth keeping around. The annoying thing about shared hosting is that I have to point my domain to their DNS servers, so I can't use name.com for my DNS entries and use the shared hosting for just the hosting.

What host?
I'm just going to assume I'm late, but I just heard of this being on Windows 7 machines just now.

this looks like a matter of HP being cunts and locking the firmware down rather than microsoft actively trying to shit all over linux

That kind of shit should be illegal.
No locking down BIOS/EFI on PC.
And no locking bootloaders on phones.

the amount of server space savced form not having legions of whining nerds on their forums is offset by the amount of money they would lose in warranties when legions of retards decide to fuck the firmware up
Sorry if I'm late, but you guys need to sign this. http://fightforthefuture.org/pipa/
Basically it would violate the first amendment.
