I had stuck pixels, not dead pixels.
You guys seen the new Samsung PLS monitor? It's actually really affordable for what you get.
Link us to it

I believe that's the one, about £500 which is a pretty decent price, Hazro have some 27"s at the same resolution for £400 though, no idea how good Hazro are though, everything else with that resolution or the 16:10 equivalent is a good £900+.
I bring content and the need for another box of paracetamol as a result

Man, Even 2560x1600 isn't what monitors should be at. HD really killed the market and slowed us down, we've had 2560x1600 since 2004, although it's nice to see new monitor technologies (IPS, PLS, LED, etc) We should really be on QUXGA by now.
WHUXGHA would be nice, but surely there's a point where you just don't need more resolution, especially on normal sized monitors, you just won't notice it.

Need help with this kinda ASAP.
It's pretty funny that this game is competing with battlefield 3. Arcade shooter indeed.
Warship I'm going to buy you a title when I next get paid, prepare for anal penetration as soon as I decide what to change it to.
Should I consider myself lucky that I haven't got a title yet?
I was going to an still can but no-one gave me any ideas.
OK, so...
I have had terrible luck with OS installs today.
First one: Old eMac. It's PowerPC, so no Windows. As luck would have it, I already had a PowerPC disc - I bought the OpenBSD 3.6 CD pack when it came out, which has x86, x64, SPARC, SPARC64, PPC and VAX (on 3 CDs). So I just slap the PPC one in and install like normal, right?
Apparently not. Getting it to boot off CD took several tries. Then it absolutely refused to read the packages off the CD. It would boot fine, and run the script fine. But when it came to copying /bsd, /etc/ and /usr (and so on) onto the hard drive, it couldn't read them.
Fine. I start again, actually connected to the network, and find a mirror that still has the 7-year-old version uploaded. Download and install, then finally reboot.
Can't get it to boot from disk. I eventually manage to get into the OpenFirmware console, which has to be the most confusing thing ever, but I can't get it to boot.
And then it gets worse. I figure "fine, I'll just boot from CD and try again".
Nope.
Now it apparently can't boot from CD. I'm probably going to end up resetting the firmware, and loading Mac OS 9 on it (those are free to DL).
The one good thing? Macs have a really nice console font. It's like Times Roman or something. Very clean, very nice to read.
Second one: The Granny PC From Hell
We'd gotten an old computer donated. We booted it up when we got it, and it was the archetypal "old grandmother computer". Windows 98, AOL, and original VGA graphics. It was hilarious, and I've told the story before.
We finally decided to try installing something on it. I had a Ubuntu disk handy (an old one - Intrepid Ibex - from before they did too much stupid stuff), so in it went. And then it went into the other CD drive, because it apparently can't boot from CD2 (which is the top one).
It took about ten minutes to get into X. And about 20 minutes later, when it's still drawing the first window, I give up and hard-reboot it. I drop into the BIOS menu to see the specs:
366mHz Celeron
128MB RAM
Yeah. I'm thinking this will mainly be used to console into the routers and switches. It does have two serial ports, which is perfect for that. Maybe, if we're lucky, FVWM will work - it's pretty lightweight.
Trying to decide between OpenBSD and Arch. I'm more familiar with the former, which will probably be necessary, since I know exactly what can be cut out, but the latter may be more useful to learn.
Thoughts on both?
I have a 300MHz laptop running XP, battery still working. Come at me bro.

How much cache? Laptop processors usually have low clocks, but a lot more cache to compensate.
The first few generations of Celerons, meanwhile, were just Pentium IIs with vastly reduced caches (sometimes NONE).
The one in question has 128kb of L2 cache.
Managed to oops init on my VPS by copying /proc. I am not a clever man.

Do you think he realizes we're making fun of him right here?
I'm not entirely sure he grasps the concept of a forum. (or a computer for that matter)
I'd like to say this, since my homeland is apparently Pakistan now:
Asalamu alaikum!
Damn, ISP just suddenly died.
Guess I'll have to use 3G while they sort their stuff out.
Did a fast speedtest after connecting.
My 3G is faster than most connections in Australia.

Obvious troll is obvious, especially after you check out this thread:

My internet suddenly slowed down like fuck, why's that?
*20 minutes of waiting for some 240p youtube video to load*
Heck let's run a speedtest.
*10 minutes of waiting for Speedtest.net to load*
(Screenshotted it because the "Share this result" button wouldn't work)

He won't know what CIPWTTKT stands for. We should actually rename it back to "Computer illiterates who thinks they know things + General Chat" and remove the version and bullshit behind it
or we could just add more acronyms
cipwttk&gc:vXV;safce

C:/etc/cipwttk&gc:0o017- S&Fce
(the mixing of Windows C:\ and UNIX /etc/ is deliberate, as is using html escapes for the ampersands; the version number is in octal)
