My friend is going to buy a laptop, she needs a sturdy and decent one, the budget is $850.
Would a ThinkPad T510 be a good choice?

Yes.
Any other recommendations?
Trying to start Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands on Steam
1. First time setup installs Ubisoft Game Launcher
2. Ubisoft Game Launcher downloads an update
3. Ubisoft Game Launcher is patching
4. Ubisoft Game Launcher (after a restart) is patching again
5. Patching failed! but launcher starts anyway
6. After a few seconds "Ubisoft Game Launcher stopped working"
7. Start the game in Steam again.
8. Launcher starts in German.

9. Went in Launcher settings, a second game settings dialogue (Dutch) appears.
10. Restart game from Steam again, now it's in yet another language. Looks like some scandinavian language.
What the fuck.
[editline]16th November 2011[/editline]
Now I just removed the language files, BUT THE FUCKER AUTOMATICALLY PATCHES ITSELF AND SETS ITSELF BACK.
Fuck, turns out the T510 is way over budget, it's actually $200 more than I thought.
Please do recommend any durable laptop in the price range of $800-850.

I'm the fool here because I thought asking for help in a YouTube comment would be a good idea.

I'm guessing skyrim.
If it is, I get around the same performance. It's unoptimized as fuck. Great game though.

I should mention that I commented on a video where the recorder has the same exact system as me except RAM and is getting 30FPS while recording with FRAPS completely maxed out at 1080p.

SirCrest/brt found some optimization tricks. Like it not being limited to 2 threads. Problem with being limited to 2 threads now-a-days is a lot of CPU's have HT or similar tech. So the first 2 threads are just the same fucking core so they end up choking each other. The guy may have found some tricks.
I've been speaking with the guy on YouTube over PMs and he insists that the first recording is his first time playing and he hasn't done any configurations.
Also,

Also, I posted this in the tech support thread I made. I'll just post it here.
In any case I've been doing tons of experimenting and research. It seems that the largest part of the problem is the fact that AA is horribly unoptimized. This is a universal complaint. There have been a handful of people who have been having the same problem as me, and the performance loss appears to be a random occurrence. It also seems to mostly strike ATI users.
I tried an experiment: I put the game on ultra, added additional .ini tweaks such as sharper shadows, more detailed reflections in water, and trees cast shadows on themselves, but I bumped the AA down to 4 from 8. My FPS was magically in the 30s and 40s again in outdoor areas. I'm thinking the only fix will be to wait for ATI to update their drivers or for Bethesda to make a patch to optimize their AA.

Wow, I cannot fucking understand this.
I get 15 FPS on the intro on high/med settings. I don't even supersample, force vsync (infact I turned the forced skyrim vsync off because of fucking input lag), any of that shit in CCC
[editline]17th November 2011[/editline]
Oh and Bethesda's AA has always been the worst out of any game.
Sigh, you never hear about good optimized games anymore :(
I don't get why developers never make a game on a PC first, and the port it over to consoles. Is it faster the other way around? This is the only reason I hate consoles to be honest, and it's not even the consoles fault, really.
The only developer awesome enough to make games best on the PC is valve, I hope they never stop doing that.
They do PC - Console - PC for some faggy reason afaik.
wtf

Did you do the .ini tweaks? Also I heard that disabling the 360 controller in options helps on some systems.

Nope. Any modern OS (Windows XP or later, Linux after 2.4.17) is aware of HT, and will only schedule multiple tasks on one physical processor if necessary. It will always try to give each physical (non-HT) core a task before filling the HT cores.
I don't like the idea of hyperthreading, unless it's on a single/dual core.
I still have no fucking idea how to think of HyperThreading.
I can't just treat it like yet another core on the processor obviously, so I'm really left with thinking it's just a thread for shit to be executed on.
But then Windows balances between filling up physical cores with work first, why?
If the HT threads are being discriminated somehow, there's probably a reason, and I want to know what it is.

Because if you have one core at full load, you want to fill up another core before you try to squeeze any extra power out with hyperthreading.

Take a shufti, nice diagrams here.

From my experience, Battlefield 3 is fucking optimized and so is Rage.
I mean, SirCrest/brt is a perfect example. Before some tweeks and shit he got about 25 FPS or so on the intro in Skyrm, which looks like something from 2007 (Some points look amazing though, goto give it that. I remember at one point you go in an ice cave and I was blown away by how nice the ice looked) and then you have BF3 which he runs at 50-60FPS 2560x1600 (I think it was that, it was around that, hell might have been 80).
Also RAGE was Pretty optimized, but of course, Carmack.

I did not know that. I wonder if OSX/BSD does this.
