I still have no fucking idea how to think of HyperThreading. I can't just treat it like yet another core on the processor obviously, so I'm really left with thinking it's just a thread for shit to be executed on. But then Windows balances between filling up physical cores with work first, why? If the HT threads are being discriminated somehow, there's probably a reason, and I want to know what it is.
Simple. HT is basically a fake core (ie. it doesn't exist), that runs on the actual core when the actual core can't run its thread, usually due to a cache miss or something. If you have two threads, both at 100%, on just one physical core using HT, it's going to have to balance them, giving them each 50% execution speed. That's why it's preferred to run threads on all the physical cores first. Old systems (the aforementioned Windows 2000) would just see the HT cores as extra physical processors, and would sometimes run two threads on one physical core when the other physical core was empty. That, obviously, was bad for performance, which is why they fixed it.
Just saw this: http://www.techspot.com/news/46278-breakthrough-could-bring-tenfold-increase-in-battery-life.html What are you thinking about this? In the article it says, this will hit users in three to five years, but i guess everybody forgets about this after a while anyway.
From my experience, Battlefield 3 is fucking optimized and so is Rage. I mean, SirCrest/brt is a perfect example. Before some tweeks and shit he got about 25 FPS or so on the intro in Skyrm, which looks like something from 2007 (Some points look amazing though, goto give it that. I remember at one point you go in an ice cave and I was blown away by how nice the ice looked) and then you have BF3 which he runs at 50-60FPS 2560x1600 (I think it was that, it was around that, hell might have been 80). Also RAGE was Pretty optimized, but of course, Carmack. [editline]17th November 2011[/editline] I did not know that. I wonder if OSX/BSD does this.
What tweaks did he use, anyway?
What tweaks did he use, anyway?
Can't remember, you'll have to ask him. I'm sure he got it using all 4 cores though.
I did not know that. I wonder if OSX/BSD does this.
From what I can tell: OS X: Can't find any actual statements, but I assume it's supported (since they ship with HTT-enabled processors) FreeBSD: Supported NetBSD: Can't tell OpenBSD: Not supported - they recommend disabling it, since there's a potential security risk involved, and they're paranoid as FUCK DragonflyBSD: Supported
Well OS X is based off FreeBSD, so I assume it will be supported.
So guys, I've been recently getting into poetry, I was bored on steam, talking to some fellow facepunchers and reading all the drama about Deeps going on. It inspired me to make a poem. This ones for you, Waller. Deeps, oh deeps, so naughty and such a creep He eats McDonalds like he eats turkey at a thanksgiving day feast He lives in a trailer, slightly bigger then a baby's cradle And cries as his mother puts him to sleep. For deeps is a queef, so dirty and stinky. He reminds me of a twinky.
Thanks babe.
Is it me or has steam been going out a lot more than it should be lately?
I'm learning to type in Dvorak Hello - That took me 5 seconds to write Im learning!
Is it me or has steam been going out a lot more than it should be lately?
Yeah, I've been kicked off a few times last week myself.

I wish everyone used Dvorak instead of qwerty, it's redundant. TRUFAX: qwerty was designed to limit a typists speed to prevent typewriter jams.
Would be a bitch to reconfigure the keys to each game every time you get a new one.
But if everyone typed in dvorak that wouldn't be an issue. Also if the likes of knights corner makes its way into GPU tech: 1. Software rendering will no longer be a pejorative term. 2. Rather than writing for APIs, you'd be able to do your graphics in x86 machine code, making it much more efficient! (technically anyway)
It won't change for the same reasons America still uses imperial.

Using a ray-tracing renderer. They cancelled it as a consumer product because it was too hot and used too much power. I think it sucked down something like 600W.
The flight stick was designed for flying aircraft and the game controller was designed for pong.
Which was the first game.
The flight stick was designed for flying aircraft and the game controller was designed for pong.
Still doesn't mean DVORAK will be better than QWERTY. To each his own. [editline]17th November 2011[/editline]
Actually, Knight's Corner is derived from Larrabee, Intel's now-canceled GPU project.
But some games simply are better on a controller. Driving and Fighting games, for example.
I agree they are for racing games, but a controller or keyboard won't match an arcade stick, ever. In general for the majority of games keyboard and mice are better.
Every time I play an fps with friends on Xbox I take last place because I can't use it worth a shit.
Every time I play an fps with friends on Xbox I take last place because I can't use it worth a shit.
I have that problem on the PS3, but on the 360 I'm a god compared to my friends.
I grew up on Playstation so I'm much better on PS3. I even choose Logitech over the 360 controllers for that reason.
I have big hands, I need a 360 controller.
Holy shit.
Oh, and on the subject of Dvorak: (Sorry it took so long - I was trying to find the Snopes article. Found a bunch of references to Snopes debunking it, but every time I searched for the article itself, it decided to mess up my search results by "correcting" 'qwerty' to 'great' or something).
Holy shit.
[editline]17th November 2011[/editline] Hm, guess that only works with webm videos.
Never likes XKCD. SMBC has always been the superior comic in the "Comics that try to be smart" genre to me. [editline]16th November 2011[/editline] I'm going to get hell for saying that, aren't I?
