I bought a PSP for the sake of hacking it or whatever and sticking all sorts off stuff on it but I never got around to getting the special battery for it.
No denying they were great portable media players and great for homebrew/emulators/whatever
No denying they were great portable media players and great for homebrew/emulators/whatever
What was up with the battery everyone was talking about that could get you free games?
What was up with the battery everyone was talking about that could get you free games?
There was a way to change the battery so the device would go into a sort of manufacturer's recovery mode and from there you could install custom firmware. Everything else fell into place after that.
When I walked outside... Holy shit have my eyes changed since my last prescription. Feeeeelsss sooooo goooodddd
Was it the pandoras battery hack? I just googled PSP battery hack and thats the only one that came up, Looks pretty interesting but a bit complicated.
Now, the controller. I'd go with standard USB or Bluetooth, since that's cheaper than making a proprietary. I'd base the actual controls on the 360, since I honestly do like a lot of the decisions they made with it. Keep the four main face buttons the same. The start and select I'd like to replace with SNES-style start/select buttons - I always liked the feel of those. The big xbox button will need to be changed, but the concept of it is good. Keep the sticks where they are and how they are. Research possibility of making them twistable - if it's cheap to do, throw it in. It could be the next big gimmick (good or bad). If it costs more than 0.25 to do, don't bother. Replace the d-pad with a PSP/3DS-style slider stick. It works just as well for digital 8-direction stuff, and could be used as a slightly-worse analog stick if needed for the game. Keep the rumble. Add in a gyroscope, since we need a motion-control gimmick. Hell, add two so we can claim better precision. Now, the triggers. Make the shoulder buttons analog. Actually, make them analog/digital, like the L/R buttons on the Gamecube. Do the same for the triggers. One more thing. Position two more L/R buttons where the ring+pinky fingers normally are. I've always wondered why nobody's thought to do that. On the wired controllers, put a small USB hub inside it and two USB ports, so you can chain controllers easier. Or so you can plug in a keyboard and/or mouse.

Naah. Take out the battery, get a knife, break it apart (Just two pieces together) and break one solder on one chip. Not that hard. ITT: How to design a console.
I can almost see subpixels. To be fair though, it's a 1080p 24" The pixels are as big as my fist.
If I wanted to make a profitable console (rather than a good one), I'd copy the 360 and spend the rest of my budget on COD exclusivity.

And include a keyboard and mouse and make it able to use joystick controllers. [editline]18th November 2011[/editline] And since its windows based it can have flash and a web browser along with youtube ( since everyone supposedly needs it )
I'd scale down the sega genesis and put it in a handheld console, sell it as the iGenesis
A small sized PC, running windows/linux whatever, so it could run Steam and most of the games there. Modifed so there wouldn't be any explorer. So you boot up into Steam library, modifed for console-like GUI.

double post.

also give it an actual push button for power instead of that hypersensitive crap on the 360 I'm convinced that it's a capacitive proximity sensor with like a half mile range
I should get my eyes checked too. I see fine but I think I should get them checked. Just in case...
also give it an actual push button for power instead of that hypersensitive crap on the 360 I'm convinced that it's a capacitive proximity sensor with like a half mile range
Fuck that, give it an actual SWITCH. Maybe give it a nice old-school thing like this.

a game console built on the raspberry pi could be pretty damn cool I really want that damn thing to hurry up and come out, it's probably the only thing I'm looking more forward to than I was skyrim

how about making the whole case metal and having all the parts passively cooled by the case?
Pepper;33332474']how about making the whole case metal and having all the parts passively cooled by the case?
Wasn't one older Macintosh cooled like that? It created so much heat that chips popped out of their places.
Pepper;33332474']how about making the whole case metal and having all the parts passively cooled?
Bad Idea.
The Apple III, while aesthetically as retarded as any computer from the 80s, had the problem of trying to cram a whole lot of computer into a relatively small space. Which is totally in the spirit of cutting-edge Apple, only this is 1980 we're talking about here. As we mentioned, this was a time when any computer powerful enough to display a photograph required a crew of 30 men to stand in a circle and blow on it. Nowadays, computers have internal cooling fans and heat sinks all over them to take care of this. Back in the 80s the Apple crew figured that shit was for pussies, so the aluminum case was meant to act as a heat sink; devoid of a fan or even vents. If you've ever tried to escape the summer heat by climbing into an unventilated aluminum box you'll understand why this was a shittastic idea. The result was that chips would actually pop free from their sockets as the metal heated and expanded. Machine owners experiencing problems were given the most awesome set of troubleshooting instructions in the history of computing: Lift the dead machine a few inches of the ground and drop it. Turn it on and see if it works.

How about
Power to induction coils... turbines to speed... coolant flow at 102% and holding... stand by for ignition... OK! We're ready to play Gears now guys!
I actually have that one. It's a real shame the button only makes some dumb noise and isn't programmable. (It's a USB hub)
