[QUOTE=Goz3rr;33348068]Guys, my friend wants to run gmod on atleast decent settings to play with me, other games he plays on the PS3. His current specs are the N68-GS UCC motherboard, an AMD Athlon X3 (4th core not stable) and 3GB ram. The motherboard has a PCIe slot, but right now he's using the onboard Geforce 7025. He's obviously getting ~10 fps on low. What would be the cheapest videocard that does ~30 fps on medium?[/QUOTE]
5/6770?

I don't know about that but 6600GT can run more than that with higher FPS. You could probably find one for ~$20-$30
[editline]20th November 2011[/editline]
I mean, our other comp has some single-core AMD processor and a GeForce 6600GT and it still runs relatively new games on low-to-medium settings.
[QUOTE=wingless;33348101]5/6770?[/QUOTE]
He doesn't want to spend 100 euro just for gmod..

I'm not really into the lower end nvidia series, but my old 7600GS (AGP, so no use to him) ran gmod like crap, wouldn't a 6600GT be worse?

I don't know??? The GS models are terribly underclocked, I believe.

5/6650?
An 8800 would also work if you don't want to go as far back in the past as 6600. Would surely run gmod.
[editline]20th November 2011[/editline]
Don't know about ATI/AMD cards, have no experience with them really sans the X1250 which was the reason I didn't play games for one and a half years.
[editline]20th November 2011[/editline]
Because my only computer was a laptop that barely ran Windows Vista Home Basic (Which it shipped with) and somehow managed to come up with such absurd problems that even when I did get the stable framerate of 11 FPS I might have issues with something else.
[editline]20th November 2011[/editline]
Somehow I still managed to play GMod. You can only imagine how blazing fast this computer felt after over two years of a shitty early 2000s laptop.
Is there any reason why laptops strong enough to not vomit at running source games on medium, at the very least, are so expensive? Namely Dells, since that's apparently what my mom [I]has[/I] to buy for credit or some shit...
We'd build a desktop for more power and much less but there isn't anymore room for a second desk in either place. And the person it's being bought for needs to be able to easily transport it.
Edit: Sorry for breaking your merge, please don't murder me. :smith:
Or more like late 2000s if you consider it as a decade???
[editline]20th November 2011[/editline]

Found a BFG 550watt just now.
I should get a cheap/decent case and throw in a GPU.

Stick the parts in a case, hide one of those Raspberry Pi computers in there, sell it for $500 to a moron.
BFG sounds amazing

Of course it doesn't.
The buyer doesn't know that, though.
[editline]19th November 2011[/editline]
I wasn't sure if he had all the parts to make it actually work. Nevermind.
[QUOTE=SGTNAPALM;33349009]Of course it doesn't.

No I mean it makes no sense. The Raspberry Pi is a self-contained computer system.
Yeah I don't plan on selling any of those parts.
Looking for a decent gpu to throw in there, getting a free case from a friend soon.
Current specs:
ASUS P5Q3 DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775
Intel C2Q Q6600
Crucial 2GB (2x1GB) DDR3 1066mhz
Western Digital Caviar Blue 160GB 7200rpm
BFG 550watt psu
??? gpu
random Cooler Master case (I think)
Kinda funny he's looking for a decent GPU now.

Yeah, but if you hide it you can say to a moron "OH THIS FULL COMPUTER IS FUNCTIONING WITH THIS THIS AND THIS," when in reality it's just a 30 dollar computer that they don't know about, you could sell it for an insane markup.
[editline]19th November 2011[/editline]
In other words, the rest of the parts don't do a damn thing, they're just a facade used to hide the fact that they're being ripped off.

But you're still basically losing parts you could've sold for money.
But it's okay when you're making more money by lying.
I thought it would be funny to take a Mac Mini, make a new back cover for it, and mount a Raspberry Pi inside of it and try to sell it on Craigslist as a new prototype mac mini.
