I thought it must be some kind of network port because it's in the wall
Does anybody know what these ports are?

They're on the wall in some of the oldest rooms in my school, definitely been out of use for a decade or two
My old school had them aswell, probably audio.
If they had have a sound system or PA system it might have been used for that.
Looks like some sort of DIN plug, for audio
Agreed. DIN-5 180° to be precise. Used for stereo analog audio and for MIDI, among other things. You'll have to trace the cables, find out if they're hooked up to anything to figure out which.

If only it were still connected.
male din plug + MP3 player + rick astley, never gonna give you up.

They must really have had fun at Apple when they made this.

When they "bought" this.

That's DMX512, just with modded plugs for bent prongs, wide prongs, etc. I use it for lighting and stage elements at my school.

Best way to solve a financial crisis
You know, it's nice to actualy HAVE a physical copy of something rather than stream it from elsewhere.
I like steam but atleast I have the files with me on site.
I've actually had a lot of hands-on time with the service and it'a really not that bad. On a decent connection, Just Cause 2 and Red Faction were playsble to completion. You don't have a physical copy but the benefits include mobility and scalability. Imagine a world where games are no longer required to run on dated consoles. Developers can push as hard as they would like. Everyone can be on the cutting edge.
Also I like the prospect of game rentals. Nothing beats a good old fashioned computer but this cloud service is a step in the right direction.

It might be din, but I doubt it.

Actually, Apple didn't make it. They just bought it and then built it in.
Really? Interesting.
AFAIK the school has never had a PA system or anything, I'll have a look at where the wires go tomorrow
Actually, Apple didn't make it. They just bought it and then built it in.
Bought it from whom?
Bought it from whom?
they bought the technology and expanded a bit on it, but the core they bought

No, that's not it.
Well damn, and here I was giving Apple kudos for something they didn't make.

I'm amazed they kept the original name and didn't tack some condescending hipster title on it.

do you mindlessly hate on apple for the most trivial things as a hobby or something
I'm amazed they kept the original name and didn't tack some condescending hipster title on it.
To be fair, it's already kind of a condescending hipster title.
do you mindlessly hate on apple for the most trivial things as a hobby or something
Yes, it is a highly entertaining and fulfilling hobby.
Try it some time.

Time to shout shout down the phone.
You could download it faster on a 2400 baud modem.
