2GB will last you quite a long time, install 3G watchdog if you are a little neurotic about it.
I'm on 1GB a month for £10 and I've only been 16mb away from my limit once.

I like my network too, 3 bombard you with SMS messages if you get anywhere near your data limit.
My friend told me that he didn't want an "all singing all dancing" phone.
He now browses on it constantly, give it a try before you bash it.
But didn't you get your phone from work? Why not just move the SIM over?
I don't get why you bought a smartphone plan and then complain about paying for smartphone features?
I know, a smartphone is almost useless without internet connectivity.

...because he's forced to pay for a really fucking expensive data plan that he does not want?
I absolutely adore google navigation it comes in really handy.
Also gman take a look at custom ROMs for your phone, it strikes me as right up your street.
You can get that portable linux box that you've always dreamed of.
my merge!

So why did he buy it? He could've got different plan?
oh god fatal that was revenge merge rape right there!
I really have to get a cheapo android phone with a data plan that allows for tethering.
My transformer's amazing, but I've not actually got a phone, and if I get one, might as well go for mobile internet. (which I can tolerate a cap on, even though it's a ludicrous idea to cap data plans considering it doesn't really cost them that much more)
The issue I have is that the markup is just insane. Now, I'm all for companies making a profit off me, but if I am to pay, I want a reasonable service that scales to the amount I pay.

Which doesn't actually do what you want, it's cheap either way!
So why did he buy it? He could've got different plan?

I didn't. The phone was free.
The plan I was on for the past two years was voice and text only. And I had zero problems with the plan - I spend much of my day on a physical, wired-in computer. The rest of the day, I'm either in wifi, or driving. And I highly doubt "I was reading /." is an acceptable reason to crash your car.
But they literally refused to let me use that plan on the Droid. Flat out "no, you cannot do that, and no other company will let you do that either". Not that it matters - Verizon is the only provider in the area with even half-decent coverage.

What different plan? If you want to use a smartphone with Verizon, they force you to buy their data plan. You can't get just voice+text. You get the whole package or nothing at all.
If you don't want internet on your phone I still don't get what was stopping you from moving your sim from your old phone without you even telling verizon?

Verizon is CDMA (like Sprint). There is no SIM card.

That's retarded.
So how the fuck are you supposed to quickly switch phones.
That's retarded.
Hell how the hell do you switch carriers? Do you have to type some sort of code into your phone?

You buy a new phone.

Don't know the exact details, but it took the person at verizon about two minutes, with access to the company's network and software. I imagine it would be much harder without that.
Verizon is CDMA (like Sprint). There is no SIM card.
What
So it's impossible to switch carriers on a phone?
That's retarded, but it explains all of the carrier exclusive phones in the US.
[editline]4th December 2011[/editline]
Wow not having GSM must suck.
Yeah, carriers in the US are completely retarded - no real competition compared to Europe.
Also, bandwidth limits on broadband? Are the US still in the fucking stone age?

This is why I love AT&T.

Hey, we can't wave other feats around (other than maybe bestiality and salted butter), so I'm gonna flaunt it all I want.

Old contract huh? No new contracts without datacaps exist.
250MB cap on phone, if I go over, I will get slower speeds.
And so we go from "Post your weight" to "Post your phone service contract"
:suicide:
I wonder, what did we do when we weren't arguing/flaming or doing "post your"s in CIPWTTKT?
Just a general note: Not every place in Scandinavia has awesome Internet-connectivity.
I only get 24/1 because the ISP refuses to upgrade to DOCSIS 3.
