I live with retards that think when the internet is slow someone's "hacking" us so they unplug everything. Fuck
Oh joy, I just woke up today to find my dad downgraded our internet package "not that bad" you might say, "it's still a 512 kbit/s connection, some people have it worse!" The problems isn't here, it's the fucking data cap that comes with it : 1 GB. He paid 75$ to break the contract, downgrade the connection and will have to deal with me going over the data cap in a single day just so he can prove his point.
I'm wondering why the hell an ISP would sell a plan with a bandwidth limit so small.
I'm wondering why the hell an ISP would sell a plan with a bandwidth limit so small.
Old people.
I'm wondering why the hell an ISP would sell a plan with a bandwidth limit so small.
Look at the little flag down there It's because of the monopoly we have here, they can set the price as high as they want because the CRTC eliminates any competition. Bell and Videotron are wanking each other, offering the same fucking services for just about the same price. They don't have any kind of competition going on. Bell complains to the CRTC how high bandwidth prices are (when they're incredibly low) and how they have to upgrade their infrastructure because it's overloaded and then they raise the prices even more. It's ridiculous. I haven't told you guys how much this connection costs, 22,95$ CAD/month with a 30$ activation fee.
I'm wondering why the hell an ISP would sell a plan with a bandwidth limit so small.
It's targeting old grannies who check their e-mail every week or so / whose grandkids come to her once a month and they get on the Internet for an hour or two.
So I just drilled some holes in the plate holding my motherboard to let the 1155 heat sink pins go through easier. It took over twenty minutes to drill through all four holes with a metal drill, while I was suspending my whole weight on the drill. I trust my chassi to protect me if I ever get into a shootout. [editline]18th July 2011[/editline] Really, there's three plates of that stuff, it could probably shatter and totally stop a 9mm.
Uhhh... A case shouldn't take that long to drill through unless you were using a baguette instead of a drill bit. Are you sure that you were spinning the bit in the right direction? EDIT:
Look at the little flag down there It's because of the monopoly we have here, they can set the price as high as they want because the CRTC eliminates any competition. They have high caps or an unlimited plan if I remember right. Personally, I'm on Eastlink's unlimited 20/1 Mbps plan (Bundled with home phone which includes all the extras Bell charges for plus digital cable). I think we pay something like $100/month. Luckily, Eastlink said on Twitter they have no plans to put usage based billing on the 20 Mbps package or lower, they do have caps on the 40Mbps and 100 Mbps packages at 100GB and 250GB with $1/GB overages. Considering our household includes 3 teenagers, a data cap would murder us.

Fortunately, he lied and he didn't do it yet. I have until Monday to negotiate with him.

Canada obviously doesn't and it will pay sooner or later. Not being able to share information at a good speed for a decent price may not affect industries right now but in a near future it will, Scandinavia is ahead of everyone once again :smith:
I have an almost-libertarian stance on the majority of politics, but information infrastructures (and also transportation infrastructures) should be strictly regulated by the government to promote open and healthy exchanges of information. I firmly believe that the absolute most important thing in this world is the free and open exchange of information. Scientia potentia est
i imagine all CIPWTTKTers as slightly overweight neckbeards [editline]18th July 2011[/editline] unless proven otherwise
I am slightly overweight, but lack a beard. I have a puny mustache though.
You are not the example for all of us
okay i'll just assume you're all healthy-looking, strong, 6'2" individuals who lead wonderful social lives, and just happen to know enough about computers to make fun of people who don't. seems likely
I was only there for 5 minutes
It feels like that, until you realise you started at 11pm and its now 7am.
I'm underweight. And my beard is a standard goatee/mustache combo (see: evil Spock), not a neckbeard.
I actually expected the opposite.
I actually expected the opposite.
Nope. 6 feet tall and about 130 pounds (or thereabout - haven't weighed myself in forever, but my body shape hasn't changed). That's 180cm, 60kg, non-Americans.
