I want to run Linux on a desktop but I can't be fucked Dual Booting and my other PC doesn't recognize the Hard Drive
What would the problem be if it just freezes when trying to find a drive, or just doesn't see one as existing. I've tried the Master, Slave and Cable Select jumpers, the BIOS doesn't seem to have any advice and the drive does spin up when I turn the PC on
Either loose/unplugged cable or the drive's fucked.
Also, the greatest computer experience comes from having two operating systems. Either on a dualboot or on multiple computers (preferably with similar power)
oh this is just fucking great
My computer bluescreened for the second time in 6 hours
After doing a quick hardware check (making sure everything's secure) etc I noticed when I booted up that my one of my hard-drives was quite loud, making a rapid clicking noise..not the usual type, anyway. I think my main hard-drive is the culprit..I need to run a SMART check.
After looking up the manual I think I found the problem
I removed the "limit capacity to 32gb" jumper because I thought the extra 8gb would be handy
Turns out some BIOS'es hang on detecting drives over 32gb, which is exactly what's happening
The only other mobo I have is broken :suicide:

You're kidding right?
We had a synchronised bluescreen.
if my hard-drive really is failing then this is turning out to be a real shitty start of the year so far

well SMART isn't reporting anything out of the ordinary for either of my drives. Still paranoid though...
2012: Year of the Hard Drive problems
So, I had a thought. Perhaps some of the problems in my games were caused by fragmentation slowing down content streaming.
So I check fragmentation on my main games drive.
52%. Oops.
and again
fucking fuckity fuck
I think I'll just run a chkdsk overnight or something
I've ordered a G510!
I hope it will come today or tomorrow :D

Sounds like she gave up within 30 seconds and said, "Oh god, everyone is to blame except me."
You don't need that ISP CD unless you're on a USB modem, and if you are, that's you're fault.
It stopped snowing? Wow!
[editline]2nd January 2012[/editline]
Because it just started to snow here, in Estonia
Step 1: "I'm gonna install Linux on this old PC"
Step 2: "Hmm the BIOS doesn't like 32gb+ HDDs, guess I'll update it"
Step 3: "Gah I have to go into DOS to do all this?"
Step 4: "Corrupted disk? What the fuck this thing hasn't been touched in 15 years"

Some random chick bought a laptop with Ubuntu installed and can't figure out how to use it.
That must be the slowest news day ever.
She probably just picked Ubuntu, not knowing what it was, because it was cheaper that way.
What if she got windows 7 starter and trials of everything, I bet she would still claim she was duped.
