Really, the question is, When will games even support hexa cores?
They do. All you need to do is properly thread your program. Some games may even have 30 threads if they want.
sure if they support it you can't just set affinity in task manager and say it uses 30 cores
sure if they support it you can't just set affinity in task manager and say it uses 30 cores
If something doesn't support multicore/thread then the programmer sucks. You see shit that 1, 2, 4, and that's it, bitch a the dev for hardcoding the amount and not using dynamic <loss of word>.
Right now dual cores are mainstream, so it looks like we have a long way to go :/
Which is sad, I run on a cheap athlonIIx4 thinking I needed to go quad before I'm far behind. There's only a few programs that benefit from 4 cores D:
Wow, I built my comp in November of 09, and my mobo can't use thuban :/ *M4A79XTD EVO* http://event.asus.com/mb/2010/m4_6cores/
WHAT! GAY! I'm using the same board.

Got an email from tigerdirect this morning for these, they are already sold out!
Gotta build my brother a computer, AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz or Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz? Benchmarks don't seem to be saying it would be a good idea; but I'd like to hear what you all have to say. Poor optimization in the games for hex-core? Will it improve dramatically soon?

I've finally found something to replace my C2D.
I've finally found something to replace my C2D.
there has been a replacement out for months, its called the i5 750, captain slow
I would get the 1055t and OC it.
That's what I'm thinking. What clocks do you think I could get on a cooler master hyper 212?
That's what I'm thinking. What clocks do you think I could get on a cooler master hyper 212?
Over 4 ghz
He should be happy then. Would spending an extra 30 on the cooler be worth it? Would the difference in oc'ing capability be worth it?
AMD fails to impress me anymore, ever since the Core 2 Duos appeared. It just doesn't seem to me like AMD is trying much anymore in terms of performance, recycling the Phenom II and Athlon II over and over again. They're just making the same mediocre chips with more cores.I was expecting mind-blowing performance, and possibly news of a Phenom III or something. What a letdown. :frown:

I don't believe they have any in the $1000 range, the highest you can really go logically right now is about $300. They can do better, and I think they will someday soon. Or, it could just be they're trying to stay in the budget category.

Wait til a game comes out that is made for hexacored cpus and then you will see why it's better.

I just wouldn't consider them a "Competitor" since both companies fill different processing needs. AMD and nVidia are more like competitors, trying to out-perform eachother back and forth, but it seems like AMD has found it's place in the processor market, and that's okay too. :)

Rip a Bluray to MKV with a two-pass render, and that should give you some ideas of it's raw processing speed.
Do you honestly need more than a 1090t, let alone 955?
Yes, video processing is one of the most CPU-demanding tasks you can do. I want my videos to be processed in minutes, not hours.
Yes, video processing is one of the most CPU-demanding tasks you can do. I want my videos to be processed in minutes, not hours.
The 1090t should easily be able to do that.

:byodood: 6 Cores?
:byodood: 6 Cores?
:byodood: 6 Coors?
Do they also include 2 disabled cores?
Whilst the 6 cores may not hold much value right now, it seems to perform quite reasonably in comparison to the lower i7 processors. I'd like to replace my aging LGA775/E6850 setup, and the AMD platform seems significantly cheaper overall. The top AMD mobo I could find on Newegg was close to $200 and that is the nice ASUS ROG board with all the bells and whistles. The same range of board for the LGA1366 socket is significantly more expensive and they start at the $200 range. As it is, I will probably hold off upgrading for a few more months. The HD5870 really drained me of funds.
these look promising. But, i have a question. Would they preform better than my i7 with hyperthreading? There is no reason for me to switch unless it can beat my i7 in video/3d rendering..

AMD processors have been trailing Intel processors in performance for a good while now, but the two extra cores would make up for it if the application supported it. Really the only good use for hexa core processors like this are in server environments. SQL servers would love these processors, but games not as much.
