• Hard drive failure? Disappears from Windows Explorer, plus sudden BSODS?

Wonder whats going on here. Started installing the PoE beta today, only to find at 45% the client crashes. Curiously, its at this point that my entire D:/ about 30GB free, 320GB or so max) completely disappears from windows explorer. I need to reboot before it shows up again. So now I'm playing Hitman Absolution, and the game is installed to my D:/ drive. No issues, installing the PoE beta while this is going on too. Not really doing anything in the game that would cause lots of hard-drive seeking to happen (was just walking around in an area I had already explored), when suddenly I BSOD, which is very rare to happen (I was playing the game for about an hour before this happens). I'm just kinda getting concerned that my hard drive is failing, but I have no way to tell. I find it odd though that my D:/ drive would fail before my C:/, since its at least 2 years newer and my C:/ drive is pretty old. I guess this is a good excuse to upgrade to an SSD though if so... even tho windows isn't installed on my D:/ drive lol. So probably not worth it even then. Annoying that this has to (of course) happen right in the middle of my school semester.
First check the connections. If they're fine run the diagnostic software from your hard drive manufacturer on the drive. (For example, if you have a Seagate drive use SeaTools)
What does the BSOD say?
First check the connections.
This, if it's secure it's probably just a failing cable, happens to me a lot because I'm stupid and tighten things too much for pretty cable management.
smartmontools then post the output of smartctl -a d:
I'm assuming it was just some kind of fuckup windows had with the PoE install because I've not had any problems at all since installing PoE on my C:/ drive
It could be the PSU. Hard drives are usually the first thing to start misbehaving when your PSU is dying.
Back up all your stuff NOW
Pepper;39414377']Back up all your stuff NOW
Yeah, before you start trying to get to the root of the issue, back up everything of value that you can't redownload later. At least then if the drive crashes head first into the ground, its more of an "that sucks" rather than "fuck fuck fuck fuck!".
Well he's banned. $1 says he blames FP for his data loss.
