• Thinking about crossfiring

so right now i have a single 1gb 4870 in my motherboard. Since my birthday is coming up in about a month, i was thinking about crossfiring, but I don't really know the pros and cons. What i do know is that crossfiring (or sli'ing) is that it has a bigger performance increase on computers that run on a bigger resolution I run at 1920 x 1080, which is i think above average?? so tell me facepunch, is it worth getting another 4870 to crossfire with, and if so, would i be able to crossfire them on this mobo with good benefits? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131368 this is what i have currently http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102825
do it
any other thoughts?
It would make an excellent setup, really. is my motherboard good enough for it? i've heard some people say things about their motherboard limiting their sli or crossfire potential
Your mobo supports full x16 crossfireX :c00l:
Your mobo supports full x16 crossfireX :c00l:
wrong
2 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 (Single x16 or Dual x8)
oopsie, I forgot to look on newegg specs remind me never to believe forum posts
so i cant crossfire then? :(
Yes you can, just at a lower speed
you could, it just wouldn't be as great as you were hoping for.
it's still fine though **broke my automerge** D:
IMO, I wouldn't crossfire if I couldn't get the full potential of both cards. I payed for 2 cards not 1.5 .
by how much? what if I oc'd both gpus?
There's actually a danger that one card at x16 could outperform two cards at x8. [editline]11:03PM[/editline] ignore my posts at the beginning, i thought it was full x16 :Dawkins102:
it's ok :)
With a 4870 I don't think you would notice a difference between 8x and 16x. Especially because PCI-E 2.0 8x has about the same bandwidth as PCI-E 16x. And a 4870 I think uses about half the bandwidth of PCI-E 16x.
hmmmm interesting tell me more
Basically, there wouldn't be any sort of performance decreasing if you were to crossfire Even if it was original PCI-E 8x, you wouldn't notice any performance decreases.
