Not really, for the 1800 you would spend on the g74, you can get a sager with a better cpu and a 6990m gpu rather than a gtx 460m. Plus, clevo makes top of the line notebooks.
That's still pointless at its best. You don't buy a laptop for AWESUM GRAPHICS!!§§§§! at the first place
And it's not like having a Sandy Bridge i5/i7 with a GTX460M/560M was a bad thing.
So higher pixel densities are a bad thing? Is that why everybody is now rushing to make screen tech with higher pixels per inch such as Samsung's SAMOLED displays and LGs AH-IPS screens?
If you're old, then yes bigger pixels may be better, but apart from that and bad eyesight it's usually a better idea to have more pixels in a smaller area. Especially on a laptop where you may sit slightly closer than on a desktop pc.
Those two screens are used for Android phones, where the UI is designed at the correct PPI for those screens.
Windows on the other hand, isn't. Yes, I know there is a DPI setting, but in most applications it doesn't scale well, and images look like shite, as they're all meant to be viewed on a display of a DPI of around 72, not the 120 you'll have to use on a 15.6" display screen.
Or you'll have to reduce the resolution down to one that's readable. Not only will that look like shit, but would also make the need of a 1080p display pointless.
You also say that it maybe a problem "if you're old", but I have seen many forum posts from younger people experiencing discomfort at trying to read text on such a high PPI display.
She is well aware that desktops are more powerful both in general and in gaming but she really CAN'T carry a desktop all the time when she moves around, even if its a case with handles.
So should she go with the laptop in OP?
Yeah. It seems to be more truthful and on better quality build than these Clevo models.

Looks good but she'd prefer 1920x1080.

Just get the one you posted originally, she'll love it.
Asus makes some fantastic gaming notebooks. I have a machine similar to the one you posted, and I have to say the build quality is great. Go for it.

I didn't say it was bad, but why spend the same amount to get less? Makes no sense to me.

She should just get anyone of those Sagers that she can afford, and customize it with specs that are prefered before buying. They're pretty much the same price as Asus laptops, just come in with higher res screens and better graphics cards.. Their cooling systems are the same in terms of quality.. Seeing as she'd prefer something like a desktop replacement/laptop, I think she'd go for the Sager NP8180
http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=product_info&model_name=NP8180, is around $1900, at that price it's almost the same specs as the one in the OP, but it comes with 560m SLI instead of just a single 560m... And it has an 18.5 inch screen.
You should be able to order them off www.xoticpc.com if you can't get them from your national site.

Do not go for an HP or a Gateway, they are very prone to overheating.
