Yes.
Why the old gen i7?
Why the green drive?
Why 12GB of RAM?
Is it a prebuilt?
Get an i5 2500k instead.
[editline]7th August 2011[/editline]
And half the ram.
[editline]7th August 2011[/editline]
And a samsung F3 instead.
The 12GB of ram was, in my opinion a solid amount of RAM, the green drive well, didn't noticed it matters and no it isn't pre-built. and, the i7 isn't old gen?
Why the old gen i7?

Another question, is the case big enough to hold the DirectCU GFX's?
4gB of RAM is a solid amount, 12gB is just being silly.
That i7 isn't really worth spending money on either, if you insist on an i7, then at the very least get the sandy bridge 2600(k?) one.
And the DF-85 is massive, i highly doubt that there will be any trouble fitting anything in it.
You'd get away with a good 750w PSU.
How is 12GB being silly?, and if your not in favor of i7 what would you recommend?
If you're only planning on playing games, then an i5 2500k should be more then plenty.
And what do you expect to do with TWELVE gigabytes of RAM? Eight is most certainly more then you will ever use, especially if you're merely building it for the sake of being able to play demanding games.
I do heavy photoshop work that eats up loads of RAM, and I have yet to encounter any problems with merely four gigabytes.
oop, i should read all posts before writing dumb shit
I just told you, get an i5 2500k, 4-6 gigs of ram and a samsung F3.

I manage to use up all my 8GBS of Ram while doing video editing and phototshopping
Im thinking of upgrading to 16GB

RAM is so cheap at the moment, I would certainly get more than 4GB.

hd video editing and photoshop are not skyrim
in fact i do hd video editing and photoshop and play games on 4 gigs of ram and it's fine for a casual user
4gb is fine for any user that isnt doing professional AV work (photoshopping things for the internet and editing youtube videos is not professional)
however, that being said, ram is cheap enough that you might go 8 just for shits, i wouldnt go higher though

4GB isn't enough for BF3
4GB isn't enough for BF3
4GB is enough for BF3
Still, you should probably just get 8 because it's so cheap.
You'd get away with using that PSU piece of piss mate.
4GB isn't enough for BF3
BF3 is not like the fucking jesus christ lord and savior of all new video games
yeah its going to be graphically intensive but that doesnt mean its going to blatantly misuse RAM to the scale of 8gb
[editline]7th August 2011[/editline]
on the subject of your PSU, if you're going to spend that much on it I would probably go corsair instead, a tx850 is actually a bit cheaper and quite good, a modular would be a bit more
4GB isn't enough for BF3
Where do you even get this stupid idea
Where do you even get this stupid idea
By running it with 4GB of RAM free and getting Windows memory warnings
Noone else had that problem Darkimmortal, I played it fine with 4gb and had no memory warnings.
2500k
8gb if you want
F3 harddrive
Get an Agility 3 60gb SSD instead of that patriot one
Do you need a blu-ray? Who even buys blu-rays anyway
Get a Z68 board like a GA-Z68X-UD4-B3
Get a single card first, better upgrade path, GTX 570 recommended
Do you need such a large ricer as fuck case that costs $150? Now you're just wasting money
850w is a perfect power supply size and has a lot of good options, leaves you with a comfortable upgrade path
By running it with 4GB of RAM free and getting Windows memory warnings
you're doing something wrong
It definitely won't fit in 4GB (total) of RAM without swapping a shitload (whether this affects game performance is debatable). I have my pagefile off hence the warnings
Also to clarify, I have 8GB of RAM total and I play quite a large variety of games and have never had RAM warnings before.
I have a 1000W PSU and I'm running less than that, what the hell do I have this monster for jesus fucking christ.
Firstly, stop the RAM bitching. I understand your points about not needing 12GB but on that argument it wouldn't hurt, would only hurt my pocket?... Secondly, I'm deciding on getting the DF-35 case instead but I've been told by multiple people its a piece of shit. Thirdly, I'll probably fuck the xfire and just get a $600 dorra GPU instead. Finally, why do you guys keep recommending the 2500 processor instead of the 960?
Cheers for the help so far too ^^

1st, the core i7 960 has hyper-threading which just about no games utilize. 2nd, socket 1366 is a bit aged now, 2+ years in the running (maybe even more i'm too lazy to wiki it). intel likes to switch through sockets frequently so socket 1155, aka what the core i5 2500k and core i7 2600k use, is a better choice cuz when you want to upgrade with the next generation, you won't have to deal out on a new motherboard.
also i say just buy 4 gb of ram, and if you find that you need more just buy another 4. i've run 2 games before and use maya 3d a little bit and not had any problems. trust me, my brother uses photoshop for web site use and it takes nothing, he only has 2gb of ram. not a big deal either way but it could save you money. from the sounds of it though you've got money to blow so whatever it's your choice.
just my two cents.
thanks mate
The 2500k is better in almost every way (except programs that fully use the hyperthreading) and is much better for games which is what you're going for.
What's a dorra GPU? And the DF-35 is still overpriced and ricey for what you get (personally), get something like a fractal design R3, same price, but it is more of a personal opinion really.
a $600 dorra = a $600 dollar ( MY personal humor)
There's nothing for $600, 590's start at around $750 and 580's end at $500 (except a really overpriced one). You should be looking at a 570, that'll max BF3 and Skyrim (with reasonable AA) just fine.
Or if you really want to get a 580 get a reasonably priced one ($500).
