I got to 40 GB downloaded and paused it.
Cba to sit here looking at blank screen and wait for pointless download like an idiot, still have a week. (considering that downloading at full speed on steam causes massive page loading times, I literally have to sit and stare at blank screen).
Pausing it may have well corrupted your files; you should delete local content and re-download.
No but decryption will probably take a while.
If they were smart, the preload would be game assets only unencrypted, but no exes or DLLs or anything code wise, as long as it was in the console version it should be downloaded.
Would mean minimal time from when its unlocked to when its playable, as the only thing left to download is maybe 50MBs worth of code, and no need the encrypt it as without the underlying code the assets are useless except to look at, which can be done by booting up the game on PS4/XBone

]
Should have had "Dont post your speeds in this thread", Just got GTA from steam, the post here is sketchy so Id rather know I have it, If i want the perks I can always buy a map from ebay
Everyone in Europe goes to sleep, download speed goes up indeed.
[editline]8th April 2015[/editline]
Also if it has no custom music folder then I'm a little disappointed.
uggh jeeze, suddenly I feel bad that I skimped out on getting a SSD and just got a regular 120GB SSD.
I mean, I have a 1TB Hard Drive (That just has 250GB left.. jeeze.) but still, wish I got a 250GB SSD instead. Now I gotta do some cleaning to make room for GTA V.
Pausing it may have well corrupted your files; you should delete local content and re-download.
wat :v:
I've paused games before for weeks and always had no problem finishing download later.
Pausing it may have well corrupted your files; you should delete local content and re-download.
What in the fuck are you talking about
Pausing it may have well corrupted your files; you should delete local content and re-download.
do you know how downloads even work
i got the social club version and the installer says i don't have windows media player installed?
not even sure why it's required
Pausing it may have well corrupted your files; you should delete local content and re-download.
Uh no. If you don't know how Steam downloads work, don't claim this bullshit fact.
I know it's a bit offtopic but for quite a while I've been thinking about how mods are going to be dealt with in GTA V, we've kind of been left in the dark about this.
I mean generally speaking in the past all GTA games for PC have had a lot of mods made for them and Rockstar haven't officially supported or impeded the mod community, they just let them do their thing on their own. But that was before GTA had a very large online portion and they have already cracked down on some modders who hacked the console versions of the game. It just makes me wonder whether there will be a system in place that checks for mods to prevent hacking and cheating online and how that might impact what purely cosmetic mods people will be able to put into the game (Custom car models and player models are what i'm most interested in).

Those launcher options may suggest that Online and singleplayer are completely separate, this could be to prevent people from loading any custom content or scripts into the online version of the game while allowing modders free reign in the singleplayer.
It's just a theory, though personally i'd prefer a system such as the one used by Counter Strike: Source (it may still use this system but I haven't checked in years).
You could have mods installed but if they are not on the server's whitelist then they wouldn't get loaded when you join the game, instead they get replaced with the standard content.
So lets say you join a server with a lenient whitelist, you could have a custom gun viewmodel and sound effects and they will work normally while you are playing on that server. Then after that you join a Vanilla server and the whitelist blocks all custom content so the viewmodel and sounds are reset to the standard ones loaded from the .GCF archive.
If they had a system like that it may allow visual client side mods but block access to important scripts and code to prevent hacking. Perhaps when you set up a multiplayer game it comes with an option to disable mods or prevent players with mods from joining your game. I really wish I knew what Rockstar's stance on this is going to be.

No actually the Online launch is just a shortcut of the same executable that has a launch parameter on that makes the game load straight into Online rather than loading SP first. Console versions had that option too.
even though i know gta v isn't a port, and i'm pretty optimistic it will run well, i hope totalbiscuit does a port report on it
Well I was going to continue the steam download speed circle jerk but Steam crashed once I went to preload it so.
Steam told me that I couldn't install GTAV in my 64 GB flash drive, so I had to pull out my old external 350 GB HDD. After doing some comparison.

Goddamnit, Steam. Why are you telling me this?
[sp]Before any of you say anything: All the values are not decimals (1 GB = 1,000,000,000 Bytes as opposed to Binary, exact value calculated by computers and machines, which is 1,073,741,824 Bytes). Else it's just Steam's tendency to round off to zero decimals, at this point it would been 60 GB if it was actually bigger.[/sp]
why were you trying to install to a flash drive anyways, load times would be horrible

To preload, then he can transfer the data.
What in the fuck are you talking about
People below this post do not know about jokes.
I'd prefer 7 CD's instead of the pain of 800kb/s and breaking my 200gb data quota I share with my family tbh
18 hours, and I've got work for the next couple of days, so I'll just have it download while I'm sleeping or at work.
The real question is, how long is it going to take Steam to decrypt all the files once release hits?
Uh no. If you don't know how Steam downloads work, don't claim this bullshit fact.
If it's a fact how is it bullshit?

A normal size game takes me about 4 minutes so 20 to 30 minutes seems a reasonable estimate.
Back from work with 25 minutes left to go. I'm honestly surprised, I expected much worse.
Do I really want to pre-order and pre-load the game?
TotalBiscuit has convinced me that pre-ordering is evil and has made me wait til every game came out. I really have no interest in buying if the game will run like shit on day one (ala GTA IV), the only reason I'm considering is because I have a poop connection and there is no disc based copies of the game. (If there were, I would buy it at work with Employee Discount)
In this kind of situations, when in doubt - dont. You are not risking anything by waiting out.

Does the physical copy not exist in Canada? Because I know that physical copies do exist are being sold. Its Rockstar Social only, no Steam key.
So part of me really wants to go ahead a bite. My system specs are my concern though. GTA IV ran fine. But I'd be happy with 30 fps with V. So long as it's stable.
Specs are:
Core i7 2630QM 2.7 GHz
GTX 560M
8 GB RAM
Will I be okay?
It should run it perfectly fine.

I'm essentially in the same boat as you albeit a new laptop.
