Are the retail ones going to activate on steam like Skyrim did, or no? I'd kinda like to have it on my Steam account
All GTA copies purchased as keys or retail only work with social club. The only way to get steam version is to buy it from steam.

Damn, I was hoping it'd do that thing that Skyrim did where it installed from the disc but it's attached to your Steam account. Fukken hope I don't have to run it from the CD, I don't have enough SATA cables to run my heaps of HDDs and SDDs and an optical drive. :v:
I don't even have most of CDs for 98% of my games anymore, everything's been put on digital copies.

Meh, that's alright then. This is probably the first time I'm getting a new PC release on a physical copy in a year so I'm kind of out of the loop lol
All GTA copies purchased as keys or retail only work with social club. The only way to get steam version is to buy it from steam.
[del]Are you sure about that? The retail version says it needs steam which suggests it unlocks via steam.[/del]
Never mind, the store I was looking at has adjusted its wording to make it clear that Steam is not a requirement. That makes much more sense.
Do I really want to pre-order and pre-load the game?
TotalBiscuit has convinced me that pre-ordering is evil and has made me wait til every game came out. I really have no interest in buying if the game will run like shit on day one (ala GTA IV), the only reason I'm considering is because I have a poop connection and there is no disc based copies of the game. (If there were, I would buy it at work with Employee Discount)
preorders do need to die but totalbiscuit isn't the messiah of gaming

I heard that TotalBiscuit is a hugely egotistical bitchface in real life.

Fov slider is a very big deal though for anyone who doesn't want to play their game with cardboard on both sides of their eyes, it's infuriating to play borderlands with its 70 fov because, unless you're the sniper, you see far less on your screen than you need to
TB makes a lot of valid points a lot of the time however
the entire point of reviewing a game is to look at every single aspect of the game. EVERY SINGLE THING, and dissect it, and understand it, and weight it, and he does exactly that, very well even. Big and small, it has to be judged so that you can get the big picture, even if what one complains about seems dumb, they're reviewing it with their eyes, and everyone is different.
but he ain't the end all opinion of things like people act like. Poorders are bad and he's entirely right about it but they have their place, it's just that, people preorder obviously shitty games and then wonder why their money is gone.

I disagree a lot. When it comes to technical PC reviews, TB is one of the better if not the best reviewers. He points out most technical issues with the game which really helps decide if buying is worth it. I know his obsession with fov seems silly to some, but I suffer from videogame motion sickness and having low fov with no option to turn it up is dealbreaker for me for FPS games. After playing low fov games after 30 minutes I feel like I'm getting crosseyed.
TB is a smart man and he knows what he's talking about in most cases. He is right about pre-orders too. Everyone pre-orders but then they cry they got a sub-par product. Then they do it again and again and nothing changes. Once the game is out you can't get a refund so they get paid for terrible job.
Some are quick to diss TB but as far as I know he is the only PC reviewer with enough guts to say it as it is.
Pre-orders can't be considered evil because you are given an incentive and rewarded for having faith enough for buying the product before it's out yet. In the end your wallet has the final say, and you're not paying any more for it after it's released.
Sure there are a lot of preorder bonuses that come off as pretty hamfisted, especially the gamestop/best buy exclusive ones, but if you have an issue with it there's nothing stopping you from 'not' pre-ordering it.
Plus pre-orders have been around for a long while, limited editions or bonuses be damned. The real dilemma behind game releases is day-one DLC, season passes, and not delivering what was originally promised.
the only time I've preordered is Just Cause 2, and that game is a gift from the gods, and gta5, in both cases it's because I trust the devs a TON. I trust rockstar because I know that the xbox360 version was insanely well optimized, and I KNOW rockstar doesn't care about poor DLC that much
preordering a game without knowing what your doing is a bad bad idea, most devs just worry about getting solid preorders from the "Oblivious gamers that'll come back anyways" more than making a game.

I pre-ordered Portal 2, BF3 and Ghost Recon: Future Soldiers from what I can remember. GR:FS was the biggest regret pretty much(neither of two other games disappoint) but at least I got TF2 items and got somewhat richer back then when prices were still high for these items! v:v:v

Pre-orders are not evil but you can't expect a huge boost in quality if companies earn millions before even releasing the game to reviewers.
tbh I think gta5 for me has the most realistic preorder benefits I've seen
it isn't some "vip exclusive gun" that only preorderers get (which possibly will be dlc later anyways that comes with the game), it isn't a game changing benefit, it isn't the promise of anything, it's nothing more than some in game money. Pretty minor yeah, but it's a realistic bonus. All they are doing is saying "Hey, you supported us and that's cool, have a little bit of money"
True bonus's are things like OST's and stuff though

I did say that with bad wording, forgive me. I do really think FOV sliders are important, and I know he has some kind of sickness with low FOV, but still, it's annoying how much he talks about that. It's important, yes, but we get it.
Indeed, I think the final judgement should be of the actual player, which is why I think demos should exist more often for games.
But still, I don't like his videos much, it's my opinion and I respect yours and anyone else's (as long as they don't try to offend to state their opinion).

Honestly he has a point after the state of most AAA games released in 2014/2015 so far. It's just been horribly buggy and even unplayable at times. Ofcourse you shouldn't just pre-order without having some idea of what the game will be like when it releases!
Now I'm pretty damn sure that GTA V will be great at release (altough the servers might take a pounding), and therefore I pre-ordered it, but i would think twice about pre-ordering something from like Ubisoft for quite a while..

Well, I did pre-order AC Unity and The Crew last year, kinda regret due to risking too much on them, but at least from AC Unity Gold Pre-order I got 2 games (Far Cry 4 and AC Chronicles China) that are fun (not sure about China yet), but this year I'm not pre-ordering risky Ubisoft products.
Another thing I really dislike about TotalBiscuit is that he rants a bit too much; before anyone jumps on me, yes, that is his job and goal with the videos, to inform the game's technical information, but why not do it in a less... bothering way? But onto a real issue I have with him...
He assumes things a bit too much. Wanna have a prediction? He's gonna call GTA V a port and it's been said over 10000 times that it was developed alongside consoles since 2012 (hell, even the devlog in the files state that and Rockstar did on they tweet with both MP3 and V). He may know some things, that's fine, but he then pretends to know ALL THINGS and then his fanbase just eats up whatever he says, and if anyone disagrees with him they shit on that person. A good example of this is the subreddit of ''PC Master Race'', although that place did turn into cancer over the last year.
To jump into the TB discussion quickly without quoting anyone or taking sides.
While I admire him in his very honest opinions and his videos has improved GREATLY in objectivity over the last years,
his opinion should stay a guideline for you and what you buy and NOT a bible you have to follow blindy or PC Jesus himself.
If you know a bit more about videogames as a medium OUTSIDE of what TB is saying,
you'll see that he's biased and wrong with things from time to time.
I do watch his videos regulary, he gives a GREAT insight on what to expect on a game,
however I would never recommend trusting him blindly with everything he says.
Also, who says that preordering GTA V is a great idea because it's GTA V?
While we all know what to expect gameplay wise and from the content, it could STILL launch with heavy issues with performance,
compatibility or the online multiplayer.
It's not guaratneed that it will work out of the box on day one on "PC" which is not one global plattform but a collection of many individuals with different specs, because GTA V was great on the consoles which are closed controled plattforms.
Well previews say the game is running at 4k 60fps with current hardware, so I'd say its optimized well performance wise.

By current hardware they mean two 980s, a top of the line i7 CPU and 32GB of RAM so don't get too excited.

Well, I guess his "ranting" isn't for everyone. Personally i like it and his 40-60 min WTF is...? videos, but i can see why someone wouldn't.
I don't really know what you mean about him assuming things? I think he speaks from well earned experience and most often have decent enough things to speak about. I also haven't experienced PC master race except for the cesspool its become..

But that's just the thing isn't it? He's not doing reviews (right?), he's doing quicklooks or first impressions and explains, very objectivly IMO, the pros and cons of the game. Ofcourse you should take everyting with a pinch of salt, but IMO he's most often pretty spot on.
Yeah, the game might be completly broken at launch, and i might be a bit naive to doubt it, but i just hope that R* has learned their lesson and releases a working, great game.

The, "Current Hardware," they're running it on costs upwards of $2k to build.
4k gaming at 60fps is far from cheap but it is a good show that it can do it at least

I really like (and this is probably a terrible example, but it still gets me thinking) how in Game Dev Tycoon, you can [sp]keep developing into the future after the, "end," of the game, and some news stories still show up on how the newest hardware/software your company designs pushes 8K resolutions as a commonplace, among other stuff of course. Like at some point in the future, that level of power will be accessible to people, it's really cool.[/sp]
