A right-wing historian and author killed himself inside the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris Tuesday in front of horrified tourists, police said.
About 1,500 people at the cathedral were evacuated, CNN affiliate BFM reported. The site is one of the world's most prominent churches and a huge tourist attraction in the French capital.
BFM identified the man as Dominique Venner, 78.
Le Monde newspaper quoted a rector at the cathedral, who said the man placed a letter on the altar and then shot himself
On his blog, Venner has lashed out against same-sex marriage and what he called a future Islamist takeover of France.
In a post published Tuesday, he wrote, "The essence of a man is in his existence and not in another world. It's here and now that you have to play out your destiny until the last second. And this last second has as much importance as the rest of the life."
I really hate to say this about human life but it feels so true and that is literally nothing of value was lost.
Gay Islamist take over?
Uh.
Sounds like a lonely guy who was spreading hate to bring attention to himself. Especially considering he committed suicide in front of an audience. Maybe if he got a few hugs he wouldn't have been such a douchebag.
I really hate to say this about human life but it feels so true and that is literally nothing of value was lost.
people can always be redeemed, and value is always lost when a person dies
I don't see how people can be homophobic. Look, if someone chooses to be gay, it's his/her decision. Why would would anyone be offended by another humans sexual orientation? It means nothing, let them live their lives.

Same with pedophilia and people who have sex with animals

Er
if someone chooses to be gay
This isn't how it works.

Children and animals can't consent Garry
He will be missed
This isn't how it works.
Has there actually been any sort of study to figure out whether or not it's a choice though? I mean I think it stems from how you were raised and what you were subjected to, so not necessarily a choice but it's not like you're born with it

He wasn't even disagreeing with you two, he just had a brain fart and used the wrong words.
Also someone can choose to be gay, if they are bi already and then decide to not partner with someone of the opposite gender
Children and animals can't consent Garry
You can be a pedophile and never fuck a kid, due to self control.
Same with pedophilia and people who have sex with animals

Same with pedophilia and people who have sex with animals
Homophobes hate people who have consensual gay sex. There's nothing consensual about pedophilia or bestiality, it's just straight up abuse.

If this was the case then why don't children who are raised by gay parents have a nearly 100% chance of being homosexual?
And why are there homosexuals in countries that punish it with death?
He wasn't even disagreeing with you two, he just had a brain fart and used the wrong words.
It seemed deliberate but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt
Also someone can choose to be gay, if they are bi already and then decide to not partner with someone of the opposite gender
No being gay is about attraction. If you're bisexual you're sexually attracted to both men and women, even if you choose a man over a woman every time.
well I'm not saying being directly exposed to homosexuality will increase your chances of being gay, I'm no doctor so I can't take any side really
im just saying like say you hung out with only dudes when you were at the phase where your sexuality was first starting to take real shape? would it not make sense that your sexuality would form around what you're exposed to?
just an idea i guess i really don't care how homosexuality starts, homosexuals are just as much people as straights are

That's not how being bi works. You can be a bi man who is in a sexual relationship with a woman but he will still also be sexually attracted to men.

Well if that's how it worked then gender specific schools would have rampant cases of homosexuality.
*Stuff*
Even if it's a 'choice' I doubt it's a conscious one. More you're exposed to elements pre-birth and in very early childhood that affects sexual orientation. I'm still pretty sure, though I'm very far from a doctor or expert myself, that it's in large part natural
i dont even know of any gender specific schools that deal with young children :v:
and yeah I wouldn't necessarily call it a conscious choice, I'm just saying that unless we found some kind of link in DNA that sets off like "oh man this dudes totally straight/gay/bi", I can't see how it'd be something you're born with
that young malleable age would make sense as a root for something like that, though it wouldn't be a matter of "man im gonna be gay"
Has there actually been any sort of study to figure out whether or not it's a choice though? I mean I think it stems from how you were raised and what you were subjected to, so not necessarily a choice but it's not like you're born with it
Do you choose to like spinach? No? It's the same with being gay.

But if sexuality was something that is conditioned then where does bi-sexuality come from? Or asexuality for that matter. Both of those seem kind of strange for something that can be conditioned. How exactly would they be triggered? Going by your idea that sexuality forms around who you are exposed to wouldn't it make sense that bi-sexuality would be far more common?

I am reluctant to assume it is 100% nature, and I am reluctant to assume it is 100% nurture.
Er
He's most likely speaking about the homophobe's perspective.
Homophobes hate people who have consensual gay sex. There's nothing consensual about pedophilia or bestiality, it's just straight up abuse.
I'll have to add, in most cases. Pretty sure an 18-year old fucking a 15-year old even though they both are in full awareness of what they're doing, and in full consent, it's still pedophillia even though there's no victim to speak of.
Whether or not animals can show their consent beyond reasonable doubt is debatable, but either way good that it's illegal.
Do you choose to like spinach? No? It's the same with being gay.
My mom taught me that if I ate enough spinach I would begin to like it

I think you are missing the point he is making.
Condemning pedophiles or beastophiles without a second thought is no different than condemning gays, but that could be due to the implications of the word (e.g. pedophile or beastophile suggests they have committed the act)
Either way you are condemning someone for their orientation, if someone came out as being a pedophile publicly even though they have never hurt or molested a child then they would probably be mobbed.

No one's condemning someone for their "orientation" Garry didn't say "bestiality," he said "people who have sex with animals" that's an act, not an orientation. So you can fuck off with your annoying semantic bullshit.

You can be gay and never fuck someone of the same sex but it's pretty clear we're talking about people who do
