I think you missed my point completely, because if you had gotten it, you'd probably not have rated me agree.
Asteroidsrule: Why the disagree, just out of curiosity. It's people peacefully stepping up and saying they think something is wrong.
The magic machine tuned to channel 14 told him that it was bad.

I love this image. I'm imagining something like this going down:
"Puh. They're just jealous of us rich folk, aren't they, Piers?"
"Indeed. Anyways, it's about time to pick up our new tuxedos. Better get going."
"Sure thing, chap."
Store: *no tuxes 4 u*
"NOOOOOOOOO"
"Sacre bleu! NOOOOOOOOOON"
Haha men's warehouse. I used to pass by there all the time in downtown oakland.
FUCK YEA GO OAKLAND!!!
[editline]2nd November 2011[/editline]

[editline]2nd November 2011[/editline]
They're going to march on the port of oakland again at 5 PM PST.
Where the FUCK are the teachers?? My dad's a high school biology teacher and all he does is get shit on! Why they hell are Arizona teachers being so GODAMMED SPINELESS??? They never protest. Never. Go ask them. I did. Why not? Because they need to sacrifice "for the sake of the children". What about their children?? What about the fact my dad's a single parent trying to pay for two kids through college making less than 30k a year? I'm so fucking pissed off at this whole thing. EVERYONE should be a part of this.

A lot of teachers support this, but they're to scared to lose their jobs.

there's been numerous teacher protests this year and last year.
Fox News radio reports that the "little guys" that work on the port are losing money because of this.

They'd be sliding towards lower pays/losing their jobs anyway, so might as well try and make a change.

Since when have they cared? They're the people that demanded that teachers be paid less and have little to no rights.
This makes me think of something. Why don't we have a law that makes it illegal to fire people for striking / protesting?
Obviously there would need to be exceptions so it's not abused, and those exceptions would need to be strict so they're not abused, and etc.
But protesting shouldn't risk your livelihood.
This is amazing

For anyone interested.

This is actually great. The more we separate from the banks the more they can feel our concerns. Bank of America actually took steps to try and keep their customers.
I'm still switching to a credit union though lol
That sign is a clever way to keep looters away

I wish I were a teacher here in Arizona because I'd cause a total shitstorm.
A lot of teachers support this, but they're to scared to lose their jobs.
Sure, but what about if a vast majority do it? What these movements lack is unity. When some go out and protest and others stay at work for fear of being fired, it's effectively giving the system the power to out-last the protests through attrition!
If most, or better yet, ALL go to protest, the consequences may be far greater for both sides, but it goes to show that not just a fraction of the people are serious about it. That all demand change.
Police chief and other officials are/were on ABC talking about the protests.
Overall they're portraying OWS really positively; they say the people who damaged property were a small group of anarchists. They thanked OWS for diverting them from causing damages, said nobody had been arrested yet, said something like "in an ideal world we want the people to peacefully exercise their first amendment rights". Minimal police presence on the streets, mostly diverting the crowd from entering the freeway and other such things, although the police have limited resources. 5 businesses damaged so far, no fires, no injuries on either side, mostly peaceful. Estimated between 5000 and 3500 people protesting at varying times of the day.
Maritime activity is "effectively shut down" which is probably oldnews.
I'm honestly pretty impressed.

I was expecting a bunch of people to break a ton of store windows at some point. Ever since that whole Oscar Grant thing ya know?

Longshoremen at the ports make more than 140k A year due to mob corruption and unions.
I live in Fairfield, a few hours away from Oakland. This is ALL over the news.
It is totally not a respected protest any more. People are climbing on buildings, riots, tear gas, rubber bullets, blocking intersections and stores. Its insane.
To be quite honest I'm getting irritated. It seems that all the stupid lazy people took it over and all the respectful and educated and nice mannered people are being ignored.
A lot of teachers support this, but they're to scared to lose their jobs.
It's funny, a good teacher who supports this can get let go immediately, but if there is a shitty teacher who the admins want to fire, it takes years.
And it begins

Have you not been watching? No riots have happened, no tear gas yet. This has been mostly peaceful.
[editline]2nd November 2011[/editline]
There were like 70 anarchists dressed in all black who broke a few windows or something but that's been it. Some protesters climbed on top of some big rigs but that's no big deal.

Way to overblow the entire situation in favour of the status quo. The tear gas was shot at the protesters by police, how does that make it disrespectful on the protester's side?
Sufficed to say, you're either misinformed or willfully ignorant.
A lot of teachers support this, but they're to scared to lose their jobs.
Teachers, as public workers, can't be fired for partaking in protesting, and if they are, they should sue.
I love the people calling out chants:
"We are here, waiting..."
Crowd: "We are here, waiting..."
"To... uh..."
Crowd: "To... uh..."

Seems as though people don't actually know what they want, and are merely being directed by people who are less unsure than them.
-snip-
The news just reported the port of Oakland is closed down.
Because you can't be fired for no reason? Unless america has no employee protection laws.
Alot of places are "right-to-work" and can therefor fire you for no reason at all.
Yes, they are using tear gas. Multiple news channels are reporting broken shop windows, tear gas, rubber bullets and a marine was even harmed by a tear gas canister fracturing his skull which fuelled the protesters more.
The news just reported the port of Oakland is closed down.
I think that they have lost their "respect" because the majority of protesters now seem to be a bunch of idiots now. There is a HUGE increase of crime and graffiti in the past few days. I loved Occupy Oakland and all the Occupy Protests but up until this week because things were peaceful and things were being negotiated with the Mayor. But after the police tried to remove them from the park thats when all crap broke loose.
That is exactly what is being reported to be by 5+ news channels. So if I'm wrong than that means 5+ news channels are being bought out by the 1%.
yeah
THOSE HAPPENED DURING OCCUPY OAKLAND
