Since when was Iraq to the north of Syria?

Oops
-snip I'm late-
This is speculative bullshit, Syria's current impact on the global oil market is minimal. This is what happens when we let panicky investors set the price of a vital global commodity.
Holy fucking shit, I have never seen a better example of a literal first world problem. Its bad and all but really in the grand scheme of things its not that important.
(Also people in the UK spend a lot more than that etc)
"Waah waah waaah waah people have it worse off!"
So fucking what? You live the life you can afford. Should I suffer because others do? Yes, it's tragic and horrendous that others suffer, but does that mean I shouldn't relish the short time I have on this earth and drink my fill of what I can afford?
Third-world-countries are a unmatched horror and tragedy, yes. But does that mean we should suffer injustices where we live just because others have it worse off? Hell no. That just objectifies and demeans subjective problems. Everything is perspective to the looking glass.
Doesn't most of USA's oil come from canada though?
The USA is the third highest producer of oil, and only the 11th highest in oil exports. Chances are the oil that's not being exported (which is about 6-7 MILLION barrels a day) is instead being sold to the American people. Canada only produces about a third of what the US produces.
I really hate oil companies for this - the only real reason oil prices get really high is because of speculation and deception, rather than by actual supply and demand. Sort of undermines the entire idea behind capitalism, doesn't it?
But that's just me.

My problem was more that within minutes of this thread being made someone was complaining how it might cost them a bit more to fill up their car. Its only barely relevant to the OP.
There are so many more things that could be posted about in this thread (like how Syria shouldn't have any real effect on oil prices so this will be very temporary), but no someone decided to jump in straight away with complaining.

So fucking what? they can complain all they want. They don't damage you, they don't affect you, you will not think of them again once this thread falls into the dust of the back pages. Every single word you have typed is futile and pointless complaining about someone else's problem and how you are degrading what they think as a personal issue.
Who gives a shit?

The entire oil market is a pretty much a massive scam, as is anything where supply is artificially limited to make profit. If Syria's (quite small) contribution to the world oil market stopped right now I am pretty sure it could be replaced instantly.
But of course it wouldn't, as it allows oil companies to push up the price as there's "less".
In this case though, its really dumb. Syria (and its neighbours) are quite happily pumping out oil and selling it, so why on earth has the price risen? Supply nor demand has changed so why should the price?

I assume you realise the irony of complaining about someone complaining about someone complaining right?
But anyway, its mostly the general attitude of a lot of people on here in the last few weeks with regards to pretty much everything. I dunno where its come from but suddenly everyone seems to have a very self-centred view of the world where nothing but them matter.
I think I pointed this out in another thread a few days ago, but that post just annoyed me a tiny bit as it just came across as whining when I first read it.
I realize the irony. I don't care. If you're aggravated by people whining, get off opinion pages such as SH.

Probably for the best, at least when already in a bit of a bad mood.
(Also thanks for not being a dick about it and actually discussing it)
