STRONG sensationalist title OP, good job.
ACTA is way older than SOPA and pretty much dead already (except in Poland it seems)
That is what is implied by "big brother".

[editline]23rd January 2012[/editline]
I don't see where it says that SOPA is older than ACTA.
Its going to fuck over developed countries that have to pay for medication, it has provisions to stop generic drugs being allowed to be sold.
Title made it sound like it was something completely new and more dangerous.
At first I was glad I was born during this age of computers and internet but the future seems kinda grim.

Funny thing is if this passes I could see that happening within 5 years.
I dont know if they will (probably would because Government can be dumb) but they shouldn't ban websites like ustream and livestream just because people stream big time movies. They're like watching a movie at a friends house.

They can't close down any site they please. If they do it will backfire hardly. These websites pay taxes and shit. Government loves taxes.
Lots of uninformed people here.
ACTA IS OLD. In fact, ACTA WAS DRAFTED IN 2008.
What more, several countries have already signed into ACTA.
In fact, The United States (among other countries) have already signed ACTA. They signed it three months ago.
The only reason ACTA is getting any recognition now is because Poland has decided to join it, being the first country to join sign the initial signing last October.
I read the part about the counterfeit medicine and thought to myself: "Why can't they just stop there? Why do they have to go above-and-beyond for every little thing when there's a big problem right there?" I mean counterfeit medicine and drugs is a very big and a very real problem, why can't they just concentrate on things like that instead?
Why does living on the moon sound better and better every day?
Title made it sound like it was something completely new and more dangerous.
It's not new, the final form was recentlyish leaked.
It is the worst thing to happen to the internet.
I mentioned it in a SOPA thread and only got dumbs, lol.

Also, Polish sites are full of rage. Even if pretty damn stupid.

Wow, ACTA. I remember that one when it was new and info-banners were posted across sites I used to frequent. That's also where RFID implants and biometric passcodes (all because of 9/11 aftershocks) were a big deal I think.
Weird that it takes SOPA to call the topic to attention after all this times.
STOP THE KRAKEN!!
It's protecting against bootleg crap.
Do you really want bootleg drugs from Africa???

It's being raped by people with loads of money.
It's protecting against bootleg crap.

It's more so Africa CAN buy cheap but still good bootleg drugs.
Instead of having to pay a hefty premium (for a average African) because of a crucial meidcine that could either save lives of many or make their living conditions better.
Only part of ACTA that i like, is the part regarding food.
There's been quite a lot of cases recently about extremely low quality meat produced in one country being branded and sold as high quality meat in another country.
And similar with fish and various types of grain.
Again, only part of the bill that actually makes a little bit sense.
