I actually find tornadoes beautiful but scary at the same time
It's not a wonder why.
They are the purest form of the might of "mother nature", you can't prevent them, you can't stop them and the only way you can hide from them is under the ground.
it landed right in my town and i slept through it
Must suck living somewhere that gets destroyed every few years.
A fair amount of countries have shit like this occurring all the time eg bushfires every fucking year in Australia.
It looks like after all this was over we ended up with quite a bit of flood damage around the Atlanta area. Some roads even going completely underwater as high as 6 feet due to storm drains getting so blocked up by debris.
Insert token "global warming ermagod" post here.
Seriously though, as things get worse, we're going to see more
>Tornadoes
>Hurricanes
>Flooding
in general. Hold on to your hats, Americans, because it's only going to get more insane from here on out. I fucking mean it.
[editline]20th May 2013[/editline]
I mean, fuck we set historical records for tornadoes last year.
As in more tornadoes recorded than in all of history.
americans??? i guess you mean AMERICAN warming right? not global
I lived in Dallas, TX in the early 90s. I think it was 1991 when there were two F5 tornadoes that came during the same week (one on Monday, one on Wednesday) and tore up large chunks of the city. They both struck at night, and I can remember seeing them being lit up from behind whenever lightning struck, or some substation exploded. Both were a mile wide and air raid sirens were going off all over the city.
The last tornado I was in was in 2004, and it was just a F1. All it did was knock power out, rip the roof off a gas station, damage a few houses and destroyed some trees.
you're exaggerating, right?
the idea of a mile wide tornado is completely and utterly fucking terrifying

Wedge tornadoes can get up to a mile, even bigger.

I think the largest recorded is something like 2.5 miles wide.
I live in Pennsylvania, and the most I've seen are watches and some warning but nothing ever happened. The most we get are big thunderstorms. Tornadoes scare the shit out of me.

There have actually been tornadoes in my area, but not for a good few years.
Possible tornado in Moore, Oklahoma.
What the fuck. F4-5 apparently. My texts won't send. Oh god if I can't communicate with people I'm going to be very nervous. What the hell, entire schools have been destroyed. Anyone know if the schools were evacuated in time?
Massive tornado just hit Moore, OK.

They're saying that tornado was about 2 miles wide.
Someone should start a WH.gov petition to make tornado shelters required in the lower 48. Not having a proper shelter is INEXCUSABLE. If the US really wants to become a "weather-ready nation", this would be the first place to start.

Yes please. I'm alone, no transportation, and I only know two people with shelters and when I couldn't send any texts I got knots in my stomach.
hailstorms and a tornado? what the fuck, oklahoma?
Yes please. I'm alone, no transportation, and I only know two people with shelters and when I couldn't send any texts I got knots in my stomach.
I also heard on one of the streams that there were zero public shelters in OKC.

Hail is quite common in supercell thunderstorms.

The news lady is complaining about that. Something needs to be done.

I would create a WH.gov petition myself, but I'm in Canada, so sadly, I can't.
Guys, the tornado is coming towards my town!

Why the fuck does Oklahoma of all places not have shelters every few miles? Did they not learn their lesson in 99? The state government should be ashamed. The blood is on their hands for not having shelters in place.
the AP is saying an elementary school was a direct hit.

I wouldn't mind Mary Fallin being heckled over this.
I live right on the edge of Tornado Alley. Every couple of years man...
:suicide:
They just said a bunch of destroyed cars on the interstate. This is all I could think.
