It was on the ground for 7 hours? This damn storm is busting all sorts of records.
Okay I just moved from south Florida where hurricanes aren't that scary to the suburbs of northern Chicago Do torandos come here? Is this big one coming here? I don't know shit about tornados or warning signs
yes possibly part of the system get a weather radio
As I've posted before, I've had a few close calls with tornados. It can get really scary really fast. The shear force behind them is incredible. Hope all you less fortunate mid-westerners make it out OK.
Where i live (Indiana also) they put sirens in Terre Haute but deactivated the sirens in West Terre Haute which nobody can hear the sirens obviously with it being far away. We come before Terre Haute so if any Tornado were to come Terre Haute would be prepared but we wouldnt.
Over here in Washington they would put the sirens on for the slightest thunderstorm, was fucking ridiculous. Now I only ever hear them when they test them weekly or when there is actually a tornado warning/watch.
well were on severe thunderstorm watch so i guess were fine fuck this i want florida and the hurricanes back
around half of my fucking family lives in moore
well were on severe tornado watch so i guess were fine fuck this i want florida and the hurricanes back
severe THUNDERSTORM watch there is only 3 things for tornados: tornado watch tornado warning tornado emergency god just get a fucking weather radio and have a computer voice tell you things
oh whoops i meant thunderstorm, typo jeez okay im not really worried anymore i checked weather.com
chicagos getting fucked now but doesnt seem to have any worries of tornado, just severe winds and hail.
oh whoops i meant thunderstorm, typo jeez okay im not really worried anymore i checked weather.com
You're too paranoid for the midwest.
This is why I would never want to live in an area with the nickname tornado fucking alley. It speaks for itself.
Death toll at Moore is now at 91.
I read the thread title as "Tomatoes actively fucking up the Midwest"
oh whoops i meant thunderstorm, typo jeez okay im not really worried anymore i checked weather.com
Honestly I think tornados near northern chicago are really unlikely Tornado's need lots of open space to truly develop Things like big bodies of water and cities tend to fuck them up from forming properly, and chicago is right on the edge of a great lake as well as being a big city That said it's still considered mid-west so if you live in a suburb it's not out of the question This tornado seems like one of the worst that's hit the state in a long time. It's clearly an F5, the worst level tornado you can get. When tornado's are so big they get several miles wide everything is fucked, there's more energy in there than a nuclear bomb I bet.

i have no idea how tornadoes work and shit, but is there a way to destroy or prevent tornados? if a lot of open areas, can we erect artificial hills or something?
i have no idea how tornadoes work and shit, but is there a way to destroy or prevent tornados? if a lot of open areas, can we erect artificial hills or something?
Fly a bunch of planes in the opposite direction of the tornado to cancel it out, kinda like that elementary school science experiment with the two liter bottles taped together.

The Fujita scale takes into account wind speed, not the size. Tornadoes can come in any shape and size at any wind speed. They stretch all the way into the stratosphere. You would have to cancel out the rotating column of air if you wanted to do anything and that is simply not feasible without drastic geo-engineering.
is there a list of deaths anywhere???? i have a friend in moore
is there a list of deaths anywhere???? i have a friend in moore
local authorities didnt activate the google person finder
didnt stop a tornado hitting downtown atlanta back in 08 tornados can and will hit major cities if the conditions are right.
A tornado also ran through downtown Saint Louis last year. Amazingly, no casualties, but there was major damage throughout its course. The roof of one the terminals at Lambert Airport was ripped off. I think the last time a tornado rivaling this one touched down was two years ago in Joplin, Missouri. It was an EF5, if I recall, and it leveled almost the entire town. Death tolls were 150+
Death toll at Moore is now at 91.
Holy shit... :C
Just got home from math finals, saw the news this morning. Fucking horrible stuff, heart goes out to those struck by these things :(
This storm system is headed my way now. We've had a shitload of tornados lately, it's a little unnerving watching the towns around yours get fucked up.
Doesn't these storms occur pretty much every year? How can the death tolls be so large when people know what's coming? Why aren't people/the government better prepared? I'm genuinely curious because it just seems really odd. In many asian countries for example where massive earthquakes hit regularly kids and adults receive training and buildings are required to be constructed to withstand certain magnitudes of shaking.
