Actually lots of Android phones use 400+ PPI displays, being 1920x1080 @ 4.7-5". It's a waste and drains battery unnecessarily but apparently the bragging rights are worth it.
And we still have the same resolution at 22", stupid how this phone arms race isn't trickling out to other areas yet.

Getting there, but consumers don't really care about anything past full-HD for computers.

it's rooted too, so i got rid of amazon's bullshit
Are you running a new rom? Cause I can't figure out how to get rid of Amazon's shitty rom.

Yeah, ASUS makes good stuff. I currently rock a VE248H and love it. Next monitor I get will definitely be from them; currently I'm eyeing the VK278Q. 1080p is fine for me.

It's a simple google search away. Root, install TWRP, and install whatever rom you want. There are tons of tutorials on XDA and various other sites.
It's not like Android users care about screen calibration, or the most popular Android devices wouldn't be the ones with gaudy horrible AMOLED panels.
Nothing wrong with amoled - tweak the levels/gamma a bit and even the original galaxy s display is incredible
Don't dismiss a technology just because manufacturers calibrate it to insane colour temperatures like 9000k
My dad has a Kindle and likes it, but has quite a few problems with it all the time; mainly due to it not being a 'true' Android device (Highly modified by Amazon).
If these things would just run plain 'ole Android they'd be great, but no, they have to run a bloated, confusing, somewhat-broken version of it; and it's hard/impossible to get it running normal Android. I'd recommend staying away from these things and getting a Nexus or something similar.

I never dissed AMOLED, I said the AMOLED panels used are gaudy and horrible. Also you're deluded if you think messing with high level "gamma" sliders will make the display incredible. It's not. Anyone who works with good displays knows not a single AMOLED panel in a phone even remotely compares to a good IPS, and only Android users would ever believe that messing with some sliders and applying mDNIe settings is able to fix poor color reproduction.

Here you go again.
The town lunatic when it comes to display panels.

I wonder what it's like being immediately dismissive of anyone who doesn't share your opinions
Having stock Android is reason enough for me to buy the new Nexus 7 rather than this one. But I have the first one so it isn't needed. I love to have the latest updates right after google announce them so I have yet to desire something that isn't a nexus device.
No microSD slot AND I have to put up with Amazon's shitty Android skin that is entirely designed around selling me more things from Amazon? Pass.

I love how never once in over 14K posts have you ever put forth a counter argument to anything I say. Just ad hominems everywhere with you. Do you know anything about technology at all or do you just rely on circlejerk agree ratings to make you feel like you're not completely clueless?

Amazingly researched counter argument right here. You should be commended for your technological knowledge! I can't imagine what it would be like to be so deluded as to actually believe Samsung's OLED displays are any good. Just looking at Brian Klug's Anandtech review is enough to show how poorly it performs in most categories, and due to the limitations of testing at a fixed brightness it's even worse than that

Have an original kindle fire, can I still use my ebooks if I replace the os?
Have an original kindle fire, can I still use my ebooks if I replace the os?
Amazon has a regular Kindle app for android. Any amazon books will appear on there automatically, and your other books will also show up there (you need to put them back on the device after you replace the OS, of course)

I know. That's why I said I'm waiting for them to exist, since nobody's doing anything about it.

But, holy fuck. That Resolution, them processor speeds. These little tablets beat the shit out of my old Desktop.
Except of course the Nexus tablets runs full Android while the Kindle runs Amazon's "vision" of Android without the whole selection of Android apps.
You can root it and get get access to the play store.
I must be seriously out of the loop on tablets, I still thought Kindles were black-and-white minimalistic book reading tablets.
Not too sure about the tendency for tablet makers to wank over the resolution; my Huawei Mediapad 7 has a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1024×600. Apparently that's bad, but quite frankly the only time I can see the individual pixels is when I ram my face so close to it my nose touches the screen; more pixels for no benefit to normal usage just seems like a waste of battery power.
So long as the pixel density is sufficient that I cannot see the individual pixels in normal usage, i'm not interested in more than that for a display. I'm more interested in colour quality and responsiveness, with viewing angle a secondary concern (so long as it's not too narrow).

Erm, what are you smoking?
I personally use a Galaxy S2. While the screen is outdated now, its still the best looking screen ive ever used.
Ive used quite a few laptops, a Vizio TV, several Acer monitors, several older phones with LED screens. My S2 has a much better screen than all of them, even after i took the time to calibrate them.
The colors are simply amazing on it. When i take a picture, the screen reproduces the colors pretty much exactly how they should be (unlike all other screens ive used, even after calibration.)

Don't start. AMOLED is a hot button issue for Kaabi.

AMOLEDs aren't bad themselves. In fact, AMOLED has advantages over IPS panels, such as super-low switching times and contrast ratio. That's why companies like Oculus are looking at them. It's just that these AMOLEDs specifically aren't great.
