I also hate Facebook because I get 500+ e-mails a week from them because the random people my family forced me to "befriend" wouldn't shut the fuck up.
you can change this in account settings.
The Sony Ericsson phone lines have facebook pre packaged with the phone so fffffffffffffffffff.
I also hate Facebook because I get 500+ e-mails a week from them because the random people my family forced me to "befriend" wouldn't shut the fuck up.
I love that bit, I can convince people that i'm extremely active on the net by just showing them my e-mail I use for what I think will send me spam, so there's like 15k+ e-mails in there
To Google Plus it is [sp] Cause they're totally better than facebook /sarc [/sp]
really not that surprising. didn't zuckerberg at one point say that basically facebook and the changes that happen to it over time are specifically targeted at eroding people's inhibitions regarding how much information about themselves they put online, so that eventually nobody has privacy? plus he stated that he believes that privacy is an outdated idea.
Mark Zuckerberg sounds like a freaking Nazi judging from this, but I don't really know him much since I don't use FB.
unfortunitly I have to use FB to stay in contact with my friends back in Texas that and it's a good way to keep people aware of the news and what not
Facebook makes people look transparent because fools put everything that happens in their lives in Facebook, which isn't good. with windows phone, facebook is a very integral part of it, in fact, your phone book is your friends list. Are my texts being read as well?
Its facebook, the same thing that you use to whore your privacy on the internet, don't get surprised when you suddenly find your phone uploading photos taken by itself 5 minutes ago to facebook.
Don't have a smartphone, don't have a Facebook-Account. Now I remember why I feel good about it. :)
did anyone read that part about youtube being able to remotely take pictures and video using your phone? that's scarier to me than any of this facebook stuff
Had the app installed so it might have picked up me and my ex's convos and images...OH MY.
Ha, dumbphone master race.
The article doesn't seem to make a distinction between permissions and actually doing something - i.e. the Facebook app may have the permissions to access texts but may not have actually done it as it says later on "while others, such as YouTube, are capable of remotely accessing and operating users' smartphone cameras to take photographs or videos at any time." Well yeah they could but that doesn't mean they do, does the writer know what they are talking about? I'm not sure
While I am feeling violated that they may have been reading my texts, I am also highly amused by the fact that if they indeed are? Then someone somewhere at Facebook, has read numerous texts from me, moaning about when a friend tells me to do something on Facebook, and how I keep calling it shit.
My app has the ability to read logs and other "invasive" features. Why? Because of analytics. Permissions does not equal actual action.
What the fuck did people expect? With companies like google and facebook this shit is a given.
did anyone read that part about youtube being able to remotely take pictures and video using your phone? that's scarier to me than any of this facebook stuff
sounds like a good reason to continually jerk off in front of the camera.
Anything about the legality of this? Assume it's not.
I remember attempting to install the Android app and seeing "sending and reading text messages" as something it was allowed to do. Yeah, I was a little suspicious.
It's just a permission guys, it's probably used for something entirely different.
Had the app installed so it might have picked up me and my ex's convos and images...OH MY.
We all know your lying.
Shit like this is what I'm always afraid of with smartphones. I'm so sick of this "WELL YOU AGREED TO LET US, SO WE'RE IN THE RIGHT LOLOL" shit. Then again, I sense a lot of sensationalism going on in this article; YouTube's app may have 'access to your camera', but is there proof that it's being used? Does the access permission even say that it can randomly ACTIVATE THE CAMERA UNDETECTED AND TAKE SPY PIX? It needs camera access for uploading videos, and that's probably what the permission entails. Though both Facebook and YouTube's apps are, at least on Android, pieces of shit. Both are better just going through the browser.
Good thing I deleted my Facebook, only thing i'll do with them is buy stocks.
What do you mean "allowable"? When you enter into a contract with a corporation, you play by their rules.
Actually no. A contract has to be legal under the law, in good faith as well as clear of ramifications. Plus consumers usually have a lot more protection against corporations than vice versa. Don't forget their constitutional rights too.
Why is this even surprising? I took one fucking look at the permissions, saw "Read SMS" and didn't download it. People are so damn stupid that this is their own fault. They agreed to this. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.facebook.katana&hl=en
You can use "Permission Denied" from the Android market to change what Facebook can access from you
I think the app uses backdoors not covered by stuff like Permission Denied. Well I don't know a shit about that Permission Denied so what I just said is based on air. Am I also the only person who is not impressed or shocked by this, I knew this kind of shit will happen long ago, nothing we can do to prevent it, and in the future it will only become worse.

No it's not a backdoor - the geniuses gave them permission. Apparently the android market feature that shows you the permissions necessary before you download the app was just for shits and giggles.
