I wouldn't say copied. The new Surface and the Macbook Pro look wildly different so I don't know why that comparison was made in the first place.
If you think the Surface Book isn't made as a competitor to the Macbook Pro, you're delusional
There's a kinda-explanation for the lack of info on the Nvidia GPU - it's custom made for the SB. Also, the reason for the snake hinge is that they need to move the fulcrum(?) when you move the screen backwards to make it stable even when you touch it.
If you think the Surface Book isn't made as a competitor to the Macbook Pro, you're delusional
Nobody is saying it isn't a competitor, as it obviously is. What was being said was that the designers more than likely weren't staring at a MBP when designing the SB. Yes, there are a lot of similarities between the 2 designs, but take a look at any flagship laptop made within the last couple years and the same can be said. Pull up all those examples and a Macbook at the same time, step back from your screen, squint, and they all look the same. They're all brushed aluminum slabs. Sure, Apple made the design popular, but it's not just an Apple thing now. That's just what laptops look like in 2015. [sp]All that searching for various laptop examples has made me not wanna buy a laptop, as they all look like fucking Macbooks. Where'd the design creativity go?[/sp]
Everyone's gotta chase after Apple in their designs because that's what consumers look for. They're what's hip, they're what everyone compares everything else in tech against (hell, WIRED just ran an article on how they believe Steve Jobs may have been the technology mouthpiece of God himself, like some sort of cyber-Jesus - what?) I hate that they're considered the "standard setter", but it is what it is. So laptop designs these days are either that or the "black with tron lines" that's popular on gaming laptops.
Guys, they're laptops. By nature they're all going to look similar, especially when minimalism is the rage. I mean, there's only so many ways to make a minimalist laptop. It doesn't seem so much copying as there just not being a lot of other choices to make. It's like saying all car tires look almost the same... well sure, but it's because the function forces them to.
Yeah, that's true. I'm surprised we aren't seeing more - like - matte or something.
