A world without publishers sounds pretty enticing, though.
It will be ironic if they dig the remnants of the last great videogame crash out of a dump during the same year that sees the start of the next great videogame crash put the next Xbox and Playstation into another dump.
The question being, what will get buried to end that theoretical crash, so that that dark spirit is once again imprisoned? What would become the avatar of the current shitshow?

Where do you get the cash? No bucks, no Buck Rodgers.
Xbox One consoles? Copies of Battlefield 4?
I'm actually kinda leaning towards the Battlefield 4 possibility.
I mean, EA is basically the icon of everything wrong in the industry these days, it'd poetic justice if their biggest title of the year was to be the one.

"Oh man, we would love to release our game. But unfortunately, we have no way of mass producing it. Sorry, i guess."
I don't know about you guys but a lot of the games I play regularly can't be made with a small team on a small budget.

Why? Indie games seem like the current innovators in a world where so few AAA have lost that drive to be different or exciting.

I suck at expressing the ideas, but in short, just because indie games have positives doesn't mean they don't have negatives, nor do they negate the positive of huge studios. From what I see nowadays, I haven't seen an indie game give the same depth and span of content (and the QA because of it) that a full studio could.
Also, just because some unnamed studios make bad games/have shit practices doesn't mean every studio, bad or not, should suffer for it.
