Well alright his posts are pretty ridiculous but Facepunch definitely has a small crowd of Kanye fanboys that'll defend literally anything he does and become furious when someone says he's anything other than a musical genius :v:
(not saying that's you, I don't exactly write their names down)
Problem in moderating one's opinion, I guess. He's obviously had influence in hip-hop and despite that, it's perfectly fine not to like his music(I wouldn't even care about people shitting on his ego) but some things or comparisons are just silly to say.

it's mainly because he gets such a shit representation in the media and so many people hate him without due cause or reason
Do you really think I honestly believe what I am saying to justify myself? I stated my opinion. When you guys hounded after me I figured I would just play along... bloody hell.
Music is all about opinion and personal tastes.
The only truth is that I really wish I could see more tours of my kind of music.
EDIT:
It's crazy how rabid people go when they see someone disagreeing with them or showing 'ignorance' in their opinions.
don't try to play it out on other people lmao
Just tried out Kayne west's music... hated it.
Try something like this:

this sounds way more generic than kanye west lol
Kind of baffled at the people here calling Kanye a genius. I personally don't see the appeal in his music. Meh.
Can anybody post an example of why do you guys think he's a genuis? Like, I am genuinely curious. I have never listened to his music and the responses here made me confused, so I looked up what was most popular on youtube and it seemed to be the blandest, most uninspired rap, without real specific spell to it.
Please, present examples of songs that make you think he's great, anybody.
this sounds way more generic than kanye west lol
If you find any others, do tell me. I can't find any beyond Rammstein.
Oh please do try find some others that sound like this....? I have only found 2.... and like 2 songs from another artist/s.
you could put this and rammstein in front of me and i dont think i could tell the difference
it's just generic metal with german vocals

Generic needs more then 2 people. It's also fairly easy to tell the difference. Rammstein is far more.... brutal in their pronunciation often while Eisbrecher is more smoother.

Are you into hip hop? You might not get it.
It's like a non-car person seeing a Porsche, it might just seem like a regular car if you have no perspective.

Uh I was never heavy on hip hop I guess but several hip hop artists and songs clicked with me. Several tracks by Eminem for instance (not all).
If there was one hiphop I really like, it's this stuff

i googled the band, looked up the genre on wikipedia and compared a few artists on there (briefly) to some of these songs and they all sound exactly the same because they're all apparently basically rammstein imitators
i couldnt really compare it to anything else because I don't know any other german metal bands
this sounds way more generic than kanye west lol
How does it being unique make it good?
This is a dumb hipster way of looking at music, if it has more than 2 artists in the genre = shit, if it has more than 10 fans then = shit

if you just look at the artistic techniques used in the second video, he's using things in 2008 that didn't get popularised for years, and it's an incredibly honest song about his pursuit of fame ruining his personal life

Kanye's my favorite artist. In my opinion MBDTF is one of the greatest albums ever made, regardless of genre. I paid over 300 dollars on a single ticket to see him live.
That being said, I don't give a good god damn if someone doesn't like the music he makes. We all like what we like, there's nothing more to it than that. What I DON'T like is when people disregard his work by criticizing his person, criticizing his ego, or criticizing the genre of music he makes. He's inarguably one of the most influential musicians alive, setting and defining a new era of rap music, changing fashion in hip hop culture, and sweeping award after award doing it. His wikipedia list of awards is longer than some artists entire bios.
West is one of the world's best-selling artists of all time, having sold more than 21 million albums and 66 million digital downloads.[2] He has won a total of 21 Grammy Awards, making him one of the most awarded artists of all-time and the most Grammy-awarded artist of his age.[3] Time named West one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2005 and 2011. He has also been included in a number of Forbes annual lists.[4] Three of his albums rank on Rolling Stone's 2012 "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list; two of his albums feature at #8 and #1 in Pitchfork Media's The 100 Best Albums of 2010-2014.[5]
West's background and style, from his debut album, deviated from the then-dominant "gangsta" persona in hip hop, and he would later alter the genre stylistically as rappers adopted his alternative aesthetic. An outspoken and controversial celebrity, West has often been a source of controversy due to his appearances at award shows and his various television and radio interviews.

It sucks that so many people only pay attention to that last sentence. Hate Kanye all you want, but don't go off on how he's a "shitty artist and a shitty person" because of some stupid stunt he pulled like five years ago.
people fail to understand it's not just his music that's the draw. It's his unique aesthetic for each album, and the effort he puts into videos and costumes and stage design

Mate search for the genre industrial metal and prepare to shit yourself.

I dunno but as soon the jarringly badly executed autotune hits my ears I just have hard time taking it as anything of artistic value.

Wasn't Kanye one of the pioneers of that, and the audio engineers for The Beatles said the same thing about their flange effect.

well I mean in that album he utilised the vocoder to make himself sound robotic and emotionless so there's artistic intent right there
well I mean in that album he utilised the vocoder to make himself sound robotic and emotionless so there's artistic intent right there
Uh, you can use a vocoder without it sounding like shit, tho

(on top of actually pleasant "robotized/emotionless" sound that's a dude singing, by the way)

That's a legit and skillful use of vocoder, in my book.

And it achieves a totally different effect from the one intended.

why do things have to sound pleasant?
Did it ever occur to you that maybe he wanted it to sound jarring? Much in the same way people use minor chords instead of major?
why do things have to sound pleasant?
So this is simply music that's not meant to sound good, I think I get it now, that's what I needed to hear to clear up the confusion I guess
There's also a petition to make him the ONLY performer.

Autotune can be used for more than just 'fixing' vocals, you know that right? Kanye uses his as a cross between vocals and synths.
If we want to put it in a rock context, think of it like a talk box.
So this is simply music that's not meant to sound good, I think I get it now, that's what I needed to hear to clear up the confusion I guess
have you literally never heard of the term atonal?
There are thousands of artists that are intended to not sound 'nice and pretty' like No-Wave music, noise music
that's like a really basic music theory concept
So this is simply music that's not meant to sound good, I think I get it now, that's what I needed to hear to clear up the confusion I guess
What? Do you understand that music isn't just intended to be upbeat and cheerful? That as an art form it requires a repertoire that helps people put across the entire gambit of human emotion like, oh man I dunno, sadness or malaise? You know, the sort of thing that might require jarring sounds to help make the listener feel uncomfortable much like the artist felt at the time since it would be weird to be talking about how they lost something whilst the listener feels chipper?
I honestly don't get how this is so hard for some people.
Did it ever occur to you that maybe he wanted it to sound jarring? Much in the same way people use minor chords instead of major?
basically this
I thought this was a commonly understood concept
