I hope that this "plan" is fake and is just acting as a diversion for some real invasion they have planned. Otherwise...there will be a lot of casualties.
I'm hoping for a stalemate at least, though not really a complete defeat. If the militants can hold their own against this arrogant plan, that brings them another step closer to finally kicking the Americans out of their country.
Good God. You just set the bar with every post you make.
If Bush was still president he would have surprise bombed the town and rush in troops.
If Bush was still president he would have surprise bombed the town and rush in troops.
Killing countless civilians in the process and give the dirt diggers more public ammo against us.
don't worry guys, I'm going to be a commander in a few years and I'll make sure to ask facepunch (especially gmod_fan) for advise / knowledge for my invasion of Tehran, it'll all work out okay.
Bomb their nuke stations, raze the villages and the government so they rebuild and have learned from it, minimalize civillian injuries!
Oh yeah, that's a good idea. Destroy the homes of millions of people. That'll show em who's boss and not spark the creation of a terrorist group at all.
Why all of a sudden? This entire things seems extremely odd, I mean, what the fuck. At least they've warned the town. Even if it let's the enemy plot against the plan, it won't be as bad as Bush's attacks.
BDA: Keeping facepunch in the loop.
Mostly ground attack? No helicopter strikes? No artillery?
Bomb their nuke stations, raze the villages and the government so they rebuild and have learned from it, minimalize civillian injuries!
Ever heard of a JDAM-equipped concrete bomb? It's basically like dropping a GPS guided chunk of concrete on your target. That way you can take out the leaders without causing too much collateral damage.
Source: http://www.opendemocracy.net/opensecurity/security_briefings/100210 Source: http://afghanistan.blogs.cnn.com/2010/02/09/around-the-web-the-fight-in-marjah-could-be-brutal/ Obama's first major offensive is not only officially planned and underway, but details of the attack have been publicly announced to the citizens of the Marja, a large Afghani town. He's issued warnings to everybody within the city, pleading for all noncombatants to evacuate. This is a highly controversial decision on his part, as it's giving the large number of enemy combatants plenty of time to bolster their defenses- emplacing IEDs, landmines, roadside bombs, and all manner of booby traps in the path of our soldiers. Our forces are walking into an engagement where the enemy knows how many are coming, when they're coming, and what they plan to do. Friendly casualties are likely to be the highest experienced in a single engagement since the Battle of Fallujah. I hope our President feels that their lives are worth the positive reactions he's getting from the region for warning the people of the city in advance. To everybody taking part in Operation Moshtarak: good luck- and give 'em hell. My heart goes with you. edit I'm quite dumb. I misspelled "Moshtarak" in the title. :(
Don't bash Obama for giving warning... the Bush administration gave an even longer warning before the attack on Fallujah... That's very Fox newsy on your part Besides, you better believe they have that entire place under 24/7 surveillance from the air before, during and after the publicly announced plan to assault it... IEDs are not going to be an issue, and now instead of going into a building that's clearly fortified inside, they just bring it down
Need live feed of invasion :q:
Well, this is not going to turn out well. Usually, it's a bad idea to, you know, broadcast your intentions to the enemy.
Well, this is not going to turn out well. Usually, it's a bad idea to, you know, broadcast your intentions to the enemy.
I'm sure if the force came out of nowhere, there'd be a clusterfuck of friendly fire and civillian casualties [editline]08:55PM[/editline]
Fucking idiot. (User was banned for this post ("Flaming" - TH89))
hang on th89, he was insulting OBAMA. is insulting OBAMA a bannable offence now
Why announce the attack plans?
Durr because killing civilians looks bad?
Don't bash Obama for giving warning... the Bush administration gave an even longer warning before the attack on Fallujah... IEDs are not going to be an issue, and now instead of going into a building that's clearly fortified inside, they just bring it down
Nobody knows how great American surveillance and reconnaissance is better than I. After all, it's my job. But did you read anything of the city? The entire area is a network of tunnels, irrigation canals, and bridges. Even UAVs, our most advanced means of reconnaissance, surveilance, and target acquisition, cannot see an IED placed in a culvert, shoved into a pile of rocks, or tossed in a ditch. This is a populated city we're talking about. Our UAVs are severely hampered in such an environment. Tracking a single target is damn near impossible in a crowd, and even if we threw in every UAV that could fit in the airspace over that city, we couldn't track everybody. Of course IEDs are going to be an issue. They're always the issue. They pose a massive threat to our ground forces, and there's not a whole hell of a lot we can do about it except pray that we can catch a few people in the act of placing them- and are lucky enough not to trigger too many during the assault.
Is it wrong if the word 'Moshtarak' made me think of a really really violent moshpit?
Is it wrong if the word 'Moshtarak' made me think of a really really violent moshpit?
No, it'll prove to be a rather accurate summary of the battle.
Let's do this. :patriot::britain::canada:

Out of curiosity, why don't we burn the fields since it's just opium and wait for it to burn down so we can get anyone hiding in there out? It's just opium and surely won't affect their food supply.
As it's already been mentioned here, what ever happened to secrecy? :bang:
I want to play Obama in a game of high stakes poker. He'd show me his every hand.

Wait, I thought obama promised to bring the soldiers home
While I'm sure that this move will result in many Coalition casualties, the chance to warn the civilians is not something we should put aside, our principles must not give way to a smooth battle. Let's just hope the price isn't too heavy.
As has been said i think that this warning is going to be a countermeasure to almost unbridled assault. By telling the civilians you are going to fuck their town, and that they should get out... and then they are killed in bomb raids, it places less blame on the aggressor and more on the people who ignored the warning.

"baaawww, they didn't give the civilians enough time to get out! they evil sumbitches! more on Fox at 11"
