What is it with this thread and comparisons.
Point 1: They don't deserve 40 years of prison. They deserve medical help.
This. The point of the penal system is to REFORM the criminal not punish him.
This. The point of the penal system is to REFORM the criminal not punish him.
Well, maybe punish aswell, but what's the deal with punishing if the criminal doesn't understand why he is being punished?
Are they done now? It's like a pair of chavs just walk into the middle of a debate and started shouting and threatening people.
I mean, if the criminal doesn't realise he deserves the punishment.
This. The point of the penal system is to REFORM the criminal not punish him.
I think it should be a mixture of both punishment and rehabilitation so there's a deterrent while at the same time the prisoners are reformed.
Are they done now? It's like a pair of chavs just walk into the middle of a debate and started shouting and threatening people.
I hope so, anyhow if they come back just ignore them.
What is it with this thread and comparisons.
It's a trend that really often pops up that I have grown to have a deep hatred for. It often happens when someone compares something related to pedophilia, to something related to homosexuality. Don't get me wrong. Pedophiles have reasons not to go for their desires, while homosexuals do not. But pretending that the two sexual preferences have absolutely nothing in common is bullshit. Which is why I will spam it every time I get the chance or anyone says bullshit like "you can't compare [herp] to [derp], freak!": You can compare anything to anything, some things just have more in common than others. [editline]25th July 2011[/editline]
Well, maybe punish aswell, but what's the deal with punishing if the criminal doesn't understand why he is being punished?
Yeah, rehab, prison, kick in the balls. Doesn't really matter, anything we do to criminals only has a few goals: Keeping them away from the puplic (prison), and stopping them from doing crime again. A lot of people seem to think that people "deserve" punishments as some sort of "revenge". Revenge is bullshit, and the only way punishment can be of any use is if it teaches the criminal to act better.
I think it should be a mixture of both punishment and rehabilitation so there's a deterrent while at the same time the prisoners are reformed.
Isn't being locked in a cage for a third or more of your lifespan filling in the punishment part?
Isn't being locked in a cage for a third or more of your lifespan filling in the punishment part?
I was more aiming it at the luxury hotel suites that Norwegian prisons have.
I was more aiming it at the luxury hotel suites that Norwegian prisons have.
Those are intended for robberies and such, since, especially with the current economy, you can't blame most thieves for doing what they do... And like, murderers were stripped of priviledges like TV etc.?
Those are intended for robberies and such, since, especially with the current economy, you can't blame most thieves for doing what they do...
You don't really deserve to lose a primal function because of something you can't help, not to mention paedophilia is usually caused by society and the influence it has on children at an early stage.
You can't help being a pedophile, yes, but you can help being a sexual predator, there is a massive difference and people don't seem to understand it. [editline]25th July 2011[/editline]
No they don't deserve death, and if you think that anyone against death penalty is intending to do a crime that could give them death penalty, you are retarded.
No one deserves to die, people often get emotionally...involved with certain things and go full on retard and advocate literally murdering people, emotions are a powerful thing. Now, no one deserves to die but that doesn't mean they deserve to live after certain intensely terrible events. [editline]25th July 2011[/editline] and i mean live figuratively
Murder is not morally right, yet you can't blame a psychopath who's actions are not normal because they don't know what's normal, even if they are told it's wrong.
Psychopath do know what's normal. In fact, they're experts and making people think they are normal. They simply don't care.
I was more aiming it at the luxury hotel suites that Norwegian prisons have.
A reasonable bed and a window? Clearly a luxury resort.
A reasonable bed and a window? Clearly a luxury resort.
They get fucking computers and Tv's and lovely kitchens that look better than anything I will ever be able to afford.
They get fucking computers and Tv's and lovely kitchens that look better than anything I will ever be able to afford.
Government can afford better than everyone, don't worry. Just because they have these things doesn't mean they're in some sort of luxurious resort, it means their prison system isn't inhumane and shit retarded
It must be fought tooth and nail, beginning with the basest of human urges: The urge to reproduce. We should thank our benefactors for giving us respite from this overpowering force. They have thrown a switch and exorcised our demons in a single stroke. They have given us the strength we never could have summoned to overcome this compulsion.
It's amazing how few people find the very idea of the government being allowed to fuck with your biology and eliminate basic psychological urges horrifying.

Oh my, a bed AND a chair? A TV with most likely only state-subsidized channels? Good god man, I shudder at the thought.

What the fuck sort of bullshit coddling are they doing to their prisoners?
I was thinking more along the lines of
just look at that spacious bathroom
just look at that spacious bathroom
Oh god I thought that was just a shower :v: maybe you're right.
If I were a pedophile, I'd take the chemical castration over a longer jail sentence, certainly over being put on the sex offender list.
Honestly suprised Texas didn't enact this first. :v:
I thought chemical castration meant the genitals get melted off with acid or something. I am somewhat relieved.
This should only be available as an option for convicted child sexual abusers as a condition of release, not something that's mandatory
i thought it was already obvious that determent is amazingly ineffective at stopping crime see US states with death penalties
