Kids should get vaccines, their immune systems are weaker so they need the boost. But adults don't need laws to tell them to get vaccines.
In 2013 there were multiple outbreaks of measles among adults and children in the US, and every single one occurred in a pocket of vaccination-refusers that each happened to be centered around a religious community (for the record, Christians, Jews, and Hare Krishnas). One person from each group without up-to-date vaccinations went overseas and brought the measles back with them, and it quickly spread. Adult measles can kill. Complications from measles include pneumonia, bronchitis, acute brain inflammation (which has no specific treatment and is fatal 15% of the time), and permanent eye damage. And this is in adults. If herd immunity drops below a critical number (85-95% depending on the disease), the risk of contracting the disease shoots through the roof for people who cannot have the vaccination (due to allergies/etc.) or have compromised immune systems, like this kid. Your decision may seem trivial, but if we put enough idiots like you in one place, you collectively place the entire community at risk, and most specifically babies and young children. Are you going to tell me you don't care if babies die? Because that's what you're effectively saying.
I would hope this doesn't include other children who cannot be vaccinated.
That's true. His own kid wouldn't be allowed in.
Megadave just said, "Hey, I'm still alive so that must mean that I don't need these vaccinations after all!" What's worse is the parents who are vaccinated won't vaccinate their kids. They won't suffer, but the kids will.
Is this guy trolling or something? No one said they should be thrown in jail, you're completely exaggerating what we are saying. And this isn't even the same mindset religious people have, that doesn't even make any sense at all. it doesn't matter if you're healthy, you should still take vaccinations so you don't become unhealthy. You should take measures to protect yourself so that you don't suffer from an illness that you could have prevented, that was stopped years, to an entire century ago. If you are a vaccinated adult and get infected with you won't have to worry because it will go away if you aren't vaccinated it could potentially turn you into a corpse. That is what will happen if you're a healthy adult without vaccinations.
too bad lyme's disease vaccine got pulled because of anti-vaxxers despite there being no scientific evidence it had any adverse effect at all
too bad lyme's disease vaccine got pulled because of anti-vaxxers despite there being no scientific evidence it had any adverse effect at all
10$ says they later died of lymes disease I barely even know what that is too, mainly because most diseases on that list are so obscure these days from being vaccinated into non-existance sadly they're still around because of magical thinking.
I'll stick to my argument until the FDA decides to classify shit right. [editline]28th January 2015[/editline] I'm not trusting anyone who classifies Ritalin as a suitable medicine.

Vile! Vermin!

[editline]28th January 2015[/editline] I'm not trusting anyone who classifies Ritalin as a suitable medicine.
Because you have the medical background to have a bigger say than doctors, scientists, and the government, right?
The government should have no say in medical background.
The government should have no say in medical background.
Neither should you, clearly. [editline]28th January 2015[/editline] Imagine a world where megadave regulates medication [editline]28th January 2015[/editline] imagine blackness, darkness, and disease everywhere because no one is medicated properly
The government should have no say in medical background.
what does this even mean
Neither should you, clearly. [editline]28th January 2015[/editline] Imagine a world where megadave regulates medication [editline]28th January 2015[/editline] imagine blackness, darkness, and disease everywhere because no one is medicated properly
No, clearly everyone would be healthy once they reached adulthood, because adult immune systems are stronger. That's definitely how health works, just say something and it'll be true. Every morning I say out loud "I am thin and healthy!" and I haven't had my fourth heart attack yet, so clearly it is fact.
what does this even mean
Why does this reminds me of that underage kid who rejected chemo...
is megadave one of those homeopathy users who think the government is evil?
The government should have no say in medical background.
I must remind you, the government's purpose is to look after the well being of its people. The moment the parents decide to put their kids in biological danger, the government must step in
is megadave one of those homeopathy users who think the government is evil?
I certainly can't call them all good.
Just ignore him and discuss the article
I hope this child doesn't die from some disease that was caused by an unvaccinated kid that would genuinely be terrifying. [editline]28th January 2015[/editline] I don't know whats worse I could get hiv/cancer and be unhealthy or because of that, my immune system would be gone, and because of these anti-vaccination idiots, I could die of some disease that should have stopped existing a half-century ago I could have HIV and live a healthy life up until some disease stricken unvaccinated "Healthy" fool coughs on me... then I'm done. I'm just dead. There is no turning back, my life is done.
I hope the school doesn't suggest he homeschool the kid until the kid's healthy enough to attend school -- the unvaccinated kids are the ones who should be kicked out/not allowed in a classroom with others. Reminder: We came up with a safe and effective vaccine for measles over fifty years ago, and it's making a comeback.
Vaccines. Get them. Now. There's no ifs, ands or buts about it, if your body is able to handle the vaccine and respond properly it should be given said vaccine.
And it's those exact people, the ones who choose to not get vaccinated, who put those who cannot be vaccinated at risk. They're the reason why preventable illnesses persist, because they effectively harbor those diseases we can combat. You terrible at being a Devils Advocate.
I don't think he's being a devil's advocate. I think he's genuinely anti-vax. Either that or he's trolling with that viewpoint, he said the same sorts of things in the last vaccine related SH thread that popped up.
Is there any negatives to getting vaccinated? Because I don't understand not getting vaccinated if there are none.
Is there any negatives to getting vaccinated? Because I don't understand not getting vaccinated if there are none.
Not really. I mean you do have the extremely small chance of getting a legitimately bad batch. When I worked at a board of DD school I did have one 17 year old that got a vaccine from a known bad batch, and it caused extremely severe issues. Not just "my kid might get the autism." And that child's parents are still very pro-vaccine.
I don't vaccinate myself because my immune system isn't a piece of shit. Children are different, their immunes aren't quite good, so they need this shit.
You know if you're unvaccinated and healthy you can still carry the disease without being affected by it right? So when you come into contact with somebody who has a compromised immune system (and therefore can't get vaccinated themselves) you fuck them over
I don't vaccinate myself because my immune system isn't a piece of shit. Children are different, their immunes aren't quite good, so they need this shit.
I'd like to see how your immune system hold up against smallpox. [editline]28th January 2015[/editline] Or tuberculosis, or polio, of mumps, or adult chickenpox, of typhoid, or fucking hepatitis, or fucking diphtheria. You are fucking retarded if you think we didn't need these vaccines for a reason. You severely underestimate the fucking wide reaching consequences of these diseases because you've never had to fucking look them in the fucking face. People like you make me so fucking mad. You've grown up in a world sheltered from it and you don't have fucking one iota of understanding when it comes to this. You're deliberately trying to bring that fucking terror into our countries. Killing children who either no defence through no fault of their own. Truth is? I don't give a fuck if you die. You can writhe in pain as a fun variety of easily preventable diseases rips your body apart, or you could cave and run crying to modern medical science to save you shitty life and put more financial strain on everyone around you. I actually care about the people you kill as a direct result of your own fucking arrogance and you own fucking selfishness. [editline]28th January 2015[/editline] I know salk didn't come up with the measles vaccine, i'm just using him as an example because he's a pretty selfless human being who put in a shitload of work into stopping disease.

And he died in 2005; he got to watch Andrew Wakefield make a mockery of his life's work.
Anti-vaccers are infuriating. These are the same people that invest money in tarot card readings.
Tarot card readings are harmless (most do it for fun at parties) because no one is getting sick or hurt except your wallet. Anti-vaxs are on a whole other level of stupidity and harm.
Even if vaccines did cause autism... so what? Is autism worse than the death of your child? Is having a kid, even a severely autistic kid who is mute and barely responds to you, still somehow worse than knowing that your child died at your hands because you chose to believe one, disproved study?
Even if vaccines did cause autism... so what? Is autism worse than the death of your child? Is having a kid, even a severely autistic kid who is mute and barely responds to you, still somehow worse than knowing that your child died at your hands because you chose to believe one, disproved study?
That's the terrible and offensive implication. "My child is better off dead than autistic." This is how autistics grow up to be like Chris-chan instead of learning how to cope with the world and have normal lives.
I don't vaccinate myself because my immune system isn't a piece of shit. Children are different, their immunes aren't quite good, so they need this shit.
Well, the thing is, it takes time for your body to build up an immunity to a disease, which is why vaccines contain inactive strains of some diseases, and some have an extremely tiny amount of live attenuated viruses. Your body needs enough time to know how to combat it, if you happen to not have, lets say, a polio vaccine, and you get polio, at best you'd come out crippled. Stop being dumb.
That's the terrible and offensive implication. "My child is better off dead than autistic."
