doesn't mean you can't catch a cold, i lived on a college campus for 2 years, if one guy on my dorm's floor got sick, everyone on the floor would inevitably get sick. i live mostly alone now in a much different location and haven't gotten sick, but that doesn't mean i can't catch something from being on campus either

thats really gross
probably only still alive because of vaccinations if you live like that rofl
So I decided to look up more recent stats about the African polio problem, rather than quote decade-old information. Amazing news:
Africa's nearly back to eradication status. The only remaining problem area is really Pakistan, where a major outbreak has been happening.

We could see Polio eradicated in our lifetime. Last year, India was declared polio-free, which was amazing, considering that it's reduced like this:

This is the power of vaccination. Hundreds of thousands of people are alive and not crippled today because of the efforts of uncountable people.
I don't vaccinate myself because my immune system isn't a piece of shit. Children are different, their immunes aren't quite good, so they need this shit.
hahahah holy shit you are so ignorant
I vote we send Lui2112 to go live in an Ebola hot zone for 3 months. We'll see how well his "powerful" immune system does.

being cold doesn't make you sick.
also, please wipe your bum and wash your hair, you're really nasty
With him openly admitting that he doesn't shower, I think it's safe to say he's either a troll or not worth talking to.

The amount of ignorant responses to my comment are pretty ironic. Considering I'm not a self proclaimed anti-vaxxer man here. I might not of washed for weeks due to certain factors outside of my control.
You assume that i don't shower. Or i enjoy having a shower, or don't use it? It's really quite shameful. So many people being so moronic against a man sharing his view opinions, and some personal real life experience.
It's kind of odd how everyone interprets my post. I do shower. I haven't gotten a cold/flu virus in 5 years being around many people who have one for even prolonged periods. I wash my hair. I wipe my bum.

The difference is, unlike the flu, Measles is one of the most contagious diseases known to mankind, and it only works on humans, unlike avian/swine flu and other influenza strains that infect various animals.
The only way you can contract measles is exposure to an infected person, and the chances of that happening skyrocket the fewer vaccinated people there are. And unlike the seasonal flu, where you generally feel shitty for a few days and then get better, measles in adults can kill or permanently harm you.
Measles infections have a delay of roughly two days between being contagious and showing visible symptoms, and that's why it's spread so much this year. You could be sick with the measles right now and your dumb ass wouldn't know until Monday, but everyone you come in contact with would be at risk of contracting it from you.
And here you are saying you don't need to get vaccinated. Not only are you risking your own health (and, hey, that's your choice), you're risking the safety of the weakest and most vulnerable of our society. And guess what, measles is an airborne infection, so it doesn't matter if you wash your hands around infected people (even though you have questionable hygiene by your own admission), you still have to breathe. Your argument that it's the parent's or kid's fault that they didn't take proper precautions doesn't hold water when the necessary precautions include an oxygen mask and psychic powers (to see the future).
Other diseases have various vectors, and your immune system may save you from getting ill, but you can still spread it to others. Maybe you can fight off the flu, but you'll still be a carrier, and the fact that you seem to think this is acceptable is just revolting.

Please reread my posts. You'll discover I'm vaccinated. I am pro vaccinations. I can fight of the flu. I don't do anything but live a healthy lifestyle. You don't even have to be meticulous about it to avoid basic human complaints.
Where have I said I am a carrier of flu, and find passing it on to other people, acceptable. Why do you assume this

Probably because you could be carrying other shit, since you said you sometimes don't shower for weeks, which is just all kinds of nasty.
Okay, fair enough, I misrepresented your views on vaccination. I take that, and only that, back. Sorry for lumping you in with the antivaxxers.
Except that you're still not getting the whole picture and you defended the antivax parents, unintentionally or otherwise, by throwing the burden on the kid with cancer and not the idiot parents who think immunizations are icky chemicals that'll give their kid autism. We have a societal expectation that everyone will abide by a minimum level of cooperation, or else everything falls apart. This includes public health. Hundreds of people are getting sick with just the measles alone right now because that minimum cooperation is not being observed by a small group of total fuckwits.
One of the stories I found while digging up links earlier in this thread had a quote from a parent who preferred that her 16-year-old daughter miss two whole weeks of school rather than get the fucking measles shot.
And, hygiene doesn't work the way you think it does, man. That's a whole other issue.
local man cure cancer by not showering for a week, save thousands

Yes my point on all that. People want someone to focus their negativity on. The "idiots", "fuckwits". Vaccines aren't the only solution, and they're not bulletproof.

Yeah well you're proposed methods of literally, magically not getting sick for reasons are on par with shamanism and faith healing at keeping people healthy so for the foreseeable future we'll stick with what works which is vaccination.
Yes my point on all that. People want someone to focus their negativity on. The "idiots", "fuckwits". Vaccines aren't the only solution, and they're not bulletproof.
Vaccines aren't the only solution, but they're a damn large and integral part of that solution, in addition to proper hygienic and sanitary practices -- something you ignore on a regular enough basis to merit telling us about.
If there is no medical reason for you to not be vaccinated, you should be vaccinated. Vaccines aren't bulletproof, but the measles vaccine is 95% effective (if I quoted 85% before, I was misinformed, and I've since verified this number with the CDC's info); Salk's polio vaccine (developed in 1952!) is 60-70% effective against poliovirus type 1 and over 90% effective against other forms of polio, and the newer oral vaccine is 95% effective against all three major forms of polio when administered three times (50% at one dose only). Just these three vaccine formulas have saved literally millions of lives.
95% of the way is pretty damn close to essential and near-bulletproof to me. It's not the only solution, but if your solution doesn't include vaccination somewhere you'd best have a good medical reason ready.
Yes my point on all that. People want someone to focus their negativity on. The "idiots", "fuckwits". Vaccines aren't the only solution, and they're not bulletproof.
If there was even one other solution for not getting sick than keeping yourself moderately clean and vaccination then it'd already be widespread.

I haven;t purposed any scientific methods for not getting sick. I just shared some opinions and my anecdotal experiences. Look if shamanism and faith healing work try it.
Who's the we. I'm for vaccines and science for vaccinations. Vaccines work for now as our best medical option, but in the "foreseeable future". Maybe something else would do better.

I ignore hygienic and sanitary practices, but I never stated that. I alluded that their were periods were I didn't shower for weeks. You choose not to ask me why that is, but are assuming it was because i'm a "nasty" person?
I didn't say there was a no medical reason for being vaccinated. I am vaccinated. I'm all for vaccines. Why are you telling me the same thing twice. Well we can conclude that vaccines aren't the solution because that'd be bulletproof. That was my entire point we need to look beyond vaccines.
My solution would to be on human overall health. More specifically the immune system, and making do what it's supposed to do. Something i do myself, with diet, lifestyle, and other factors.

It's because people follow mainstream articles, news, and never question stuff. You can tell because being sick, having cancer. It's seen as a social norm, instead of a grave catalyst to examine ourselves and change.
Yes my point on all that. People want someone to focus their negativity on. The "idiots", "fuckwits". Vaccines aren't the only solution, and they're not bulletproof.
You replied as I hit enter, might as well just edit this post for that.
Here's the thing. Scientists, doctors, all sorts of experts ARE looking for cures for cancer. In the meantime, however, we will have to use vaccines to ensure the survival of people who have leukaemia, etc. Until the day comes when we can cure people of these afflictions, it's vaccines. Simple as that.

I'm not going to place the inability to communicate effectively on me - I'm the reader. If you don't want to be misconstrued, you need to be punctually detailed. You could have said "I've sometimes been without the ability to shower for weeks," and that would have been far less weird then saying, "I sometimes don't shower for weeks." The latter leaves so much empty space for interpretation that you would be hard-pressed to find someone who didn't think your sentence had to do with choice.
If you can't effectively carry your meaning across, it's not the confused readers who are moronic, but instead you.

I was meaning that people reply making up their own meanings. Instead of clarifying, or just not posting a reply. They decide to do so. Like you did. That is the definition of moronic. Your playing a game of semantics.

Honestly, you've been playing semantics with every post rather than replying to serious arguments that put serious holes in whatever you think you're arguing for.
If you don't want to be minsconstured, don't write yourself into a situation where you can be. Be clear, concise, and stop pussyfooting around when people call you out and instead focusing on that they're the assholes for calling you out.

"Moronic" means "foolish or stupid" according to Google. I'm not sure you're qualified to call me moronic, seeing as you've confused what I've done with semantics. If you're not going to fill in all of the blanks, all the reader has left is inference. If you don't want inference, you need to explain yourself.
No one's going to care enough to try and interrogate you about your shower situation. If you don't want to sound like a non-showering anti-social nerd, you need to go the extra mile to explain the circumstances.
This thread should have been locked ages ago. This isnt even an argument, you cannot argue against fact.
I dont care much about the anti-vaccine people since the viruses will kill them off.
I dont care much about the anti-vaccine people since the viruses will kill them off.
Anti-vaxxers and their offsprings serve as a culture plate for diseases that are currently easily prevented with the usage of vaccinations, giving the diseases a chance to evolve to get around the boosted immunity provided by the said vaccinations.
I think that's a valid reason to care about them.
