• Young people will have to change names to escape 'cyber past'

I think even if an idiot changes their name, they're still going to be an idiot.
ITT: Only idiots are immature at some point, and thus only idiots make regrettable mistakes when they're young
Searching my name comes up with a black jazz artist. I'm in the clear. :smug:
i got a scottish chemist who was a pioneer in the field of dialysis
You could also use a fake name on Facebook and every other website and not do stupid shit.
You could also use a fake name on Facebook and every other website and not do stupid shit.
If you fake your name on Facebook, you're probably the odd one at school.
If you fake your name on Facebook, you're probably the odd one at school.
I'd rather be the "odd one" than the idiot who feels the need to change their name because of their own stupidity, frankly.
I'd rather be the "odd one" than the idiot who feels the need to change their name because of their own stupidity, frankly.
I don't understand why you'd be uploading stupid shit over Facebook anyway? Facebook has no purpose with a fake name, so why even bother making an account?
I don't understand why you'd be uploading stupid shit over Facebook anyway? Facebook has no purpose with a fake name, so why even bother making an account?
No idea, but I have friends who have fake names on Facebook just to talk to each other. Facebook with usernames rather than their real names, essentially, which would probably solve more than a few problems.
Facebook has no purpose with a fake name, so why even bother making an account?
Well if they are people you know in person, they would know it was you.
Well if they are people you know in person, they would know it was you.
This would probably work if you had just a few Facebook friends, but then I don't see the point of having Facebook if it's only those people you're talking to. I just don't get faking your name on Facebook. It defeats the point of being social.
This would probably work if you had just a few Facebook friends, but then I don't see the point of having Facebook if it's only those people you're talking to.
I laughed out loud.
Why?
This is fucking retarded, even if google does seem a bit evil now you can't really expect them to become our overlords. They're a company, and their boat depends on their userbase. Them doing one thing wrong will sink it, just like ending net neutrality. Also, his proposal sounds like a total dickwad move. Denying your childhood? It's re-writing history and renouncing friends and family. 2.Also, pseudonyms.
jjsullivan, I think you got the message confused. This isn't really all about Google.
Or you could not be a total idiot with your facebook account.
That's the problem, everyone is an idiot when they are kids, that's why kids are considered immature, immature is just another word for idiot.
I don't understand why you'd be uploading stupid shit over Facebook anyway? Facebook has no purpose with a fake name, so why even bother making an account?
facebook has no purpose if you use your real name either [editline]02:41AM[/editline] facebook has no purpose at all, why not just call someone if you want to talk to them
jjsullivan, I think you got the message confused. This isn't really all about Google.
I think I touched both bases did I not?
That's the problem, everyone is an idiot when they are kids, that's why kids are considered immature, immature is just another word for someone who doesn't know better.
Fixed that for you. But the problem is that they should know better. They should be told not to be stupid online. 'course it's not likely to happen, but still...
facebook has no purpose if you use your real name either [editline]02:41AM[/editline] facebook has no purpose at all, why not just call someone if you want to talk to them
If you believe Facebook has no purpose, then you probably haven't used FB events. I can't live without that thing - otherwise I would've gotten rid of my FB account ages ago. FB is just another method of communication, so instead of picking up the phone and speaking to someone, you can do it over Facebook. But would you pick up the phone and call someone while pretending to be someone else? [editline]05:45PM[/editline]
I think I touched both bases did I not?
Nope. You spoke as if it's Google's fault for this, when really it's the ignorance of the people using the internet. Also, his "proposal" isn't really a proposal. Eric of Google isn't suggesting (that's what the article interpreted) that young people change their name, he's stating that people may have to do it to escape what they've done on the internet.
But would you pick up the phone and call someone while pretending to be someone else?
You wouldn't be pretending, you would just have a different name, and all your friends would know that.
You wouldn't be pretending, you would just have a different name, and all your friends would know that.
Why? All your documentation, such as drivers license, has your real name, so why not Facebook? If you're so worried about your identity, maybe you should watch the stuff you publish.
I'm not using FB so I'm safe.
Wait wait wait....kids not being total fuckwits on social sites like Facebook.......BAWAHAHAHAHAHAHA. But really now to *escape cyberpast* if you were not such a dimwitted idiot and acted like you were invisible on the great interweb then you would have no need to change your name.
Holy shit kids might have to live with their stupid choices Just imagine that
so this... i'm still having to live with mine at 23 :(
Don't have facebook, never will. So I'm laughing. :mmmsmug:
Eventually, google will have robots. We shall then call them, 'skynet'.
Well I'm glad I never signed up to social networking sites and made a twit out of myself all over them. Unless nerdy forum posts somehow become illegal, then we're all screwed.
ITT: Only idiots are immature at some point, and thus only idiots make regrettable mistakes when they're young
QFT. Sarcasm tickles my funny-bone. Educating kids in schools about the very real dangers of posting personal information, risqué/nude photos, or illicit activities would help enormously, but unfortunately, the current generation never got that education.
I don't have a facebook account, so this is nothing to worry about to me.
The only time I ever put real information on the internet was when I signed up to Newegg / Paypal.
