Played too much Halo, he could have been killed.
Who cares. Whether he risks dying or not is his choice and I'm sure he was aware of the danger to himself.
You say that, but when the time actually comes, could you?
You'd be surprised at what you're capable of when you're put in that kind of situation. Not all nerds are cowardly pussies who'd run at the first sign of trouble. EDIT: Also, it seems a few people here haven't really read the OP. He was an ex-security guard whose father was a cop. He knew what he was doing.
Now that is badass.
Which pistol? The one in Halo 2 sucked.
He probably had the ODST one.
That guy's got guts.
I thought belt holsters aren't considered concealed and thereby a illegal way of carrying your weapon?
I thought belt holsters aren't considered concealed and thereby a illegal way of carrying your weapon?
If the holster/weapon doesn't print against clothing or show under the bottom hem of a shirt, then it's considered concealed. I don't know the exact law in Washington, but that's how it is in most of the states I know which have concealed carry laws.
Wonder if he got a Killjoy medal for this.
You say that, but when the time actually comes, could you?
I always like to believe I'd do shit like that, but when those situations actually pop up things change. A while back I saw some guy about my age (18, maybe slightly older) standing at a street corner across the road from the train station on my way home from uni. A car pulled up (I assume he had been waiting for it to come along because the second it pulled up he started walking towards it) and four guys got out of it. Two of them started shoving him and shouting at him before pushing him to the ground and kicking the shit out of him (other two just stood there calmly, probably making sure nobody got involved). I thought about running across the road to try and help but... it would have been myself against four guys (who looked pretty shifty at that). I could probably have taken one of them down but after that I'd have lost the element of surprise and they'd all have turned on me (and I'd probably have wound up with a knife in the gut). Instead I called the cops and gave them the car's number plate and told them where I was, etc (police station was right on the other side of the tracks so they got over in like 3 or 4 minutes). I still feel like shit for not having gone over and helped the guy (even though it's possible he was the bad guy in the whole situation) but I'm sure if I'd had a gun like this one Halo employee I might have felt a bit more confident in my abilities to help.
How on earth did someone go from working security to programing?
He was an IT guy, not exactly a difficult job.
Lesson to learn here kids: Get a gun.
Not saying guns are a good thing (or a bad thing). Just saying that having something in your hands that can take a life at the pull of a finger probably makes you feel a lot more ballsy and able to help. I'm sure I'd have felt just as confident if I knew something like Krav Maga but it's $100 per month and I just don't have that kind of money.

So much respect for him. It's so easy for someone to just get back in the car and drive away. But he risked his life, not even for his own gain.
If there had been a real cop on the case they would have probably gone: "HOLY SHIT THAT GUY HAS A GUN! OPEN FIRE!"
yeah i think if there was a real police officer there he wouldn't have drawn his gun from the video he seems very level headed
Played too much Halo, he could have been killed.
Knew there would be at least one post like this the second I read the head line. [editline]13th August 2011[/editline]
If there had been a real cop on the case they would have probably gone: "HOLY SHIT THAT GUY HAS A GUN! OPEN FIRE!"
And he would have been perfectly reasonable to do so, gunfire being exchanged means bullets having chance of going off and hitting innocents in the area, not to mention trying to make them stop without shooting would probably mean one of the two turning on him and shooting at him too.
Personally, I'd rather die helping someone and/or trying to make a difference than live to regret simply standing by while someone else was being hurt.
You sir, are a wonderful aversion of Somebody Else's Problem, GMH.
he deserves a theme
How can a random criminal compete with someone who can jump 4 metres?

Every time I see that number, the line from Halo 2 plays in my head. "This is Spartan 117"
Which pistol? The one in Halo 2 sucked.
Well I agree that the Halo 2 pistol was the weakest of the all the games, they were very capable weapons in MP, if you have quick fingers and carry two they can overpower most other weapon combinations at reasonable range...
What the bloody hell is a staffer? A human resources employee?
He's earned his halo.
He's earned his halo.
You need to be killed.
