Swedish-speaking host hit with death threats (Finland)

I've lived 20 years in Finland and I still can't speak Finnish fluently.
Sometimes I just wish the Swedish language never existed here. It has only proven to be an inconvenience to me so far.
And the conflict between the two languages goes way back. It's a dumb conflict, and many people in my small town has gotten hurt because of it.
This is actually pretty common stuff with famous people/reporters. Random (insane) people get mad at the media and develop this personal thing against human beings that are doing their jobs.

Swedish is there because Finland was Sweden. Look at Algeria, they speak Arabicfrench, Mali they speak French there too.
But i agree, it should not be forced, should be like in Sweden, here they give you a list of languages that the school can teach and you just pick one.

I don't think you quite understand what "hooliganism" means by finnish standard.
It was undeclared war, unoffical invasion of Sweden.
The swedish commander of police forces said that had he the power of closing the borders and removing finnish from the premises he would have done it on the spot :v:
also the only swedish you ever need is "jag tycker om köttbullar"

Du kan tygge på mine kødboller.
Talk dirty to me!
Svenska är ett coolt språk. Plus det är så kul att svenskar låter så nördiga när vi bryter på engelska.
They see me rollin... they hatin...

Sure, finland has been a part of sweden AND russia. But that doesn't change the fact that we've always been finnish, not swedes or ruski
I've already forgotten how to speak swedish, since it's barely useful language to know around here. Got nothing against swedes or Sweden, though, the language is just useless around here.
Removing it from schools would probably raise students' motivation as that would remove another useless subject to deal with.

the lesser of two evils for me since i suck at math
I'm also a so called "hurri" or a person in Finland who speaks swedish.
I actually find it kinda horrible to speak swedish here, i mean this country is my home yet it doesn't feel like home. Most of the population dislikes me without ever even speaking to me, wherever i go apart from the coastal areas i know people will think ill of me or even beat me becouse of the language i was born with. Im allways kinda scared to start a conversation with somebody because i wont know how they'll react once they know i speak swedish. I just wish i was born as a finnish speaker sometimes..
I thought we had Eurovision to sort these kind of things out.
Well i have not met a single swedish speaking individual in Finland yet. I heard some swedish being spoken when i was many years ago visiting Åland. But even there shopkeepers spoke finnish well. So of course i think its weird that we need to learn swedish when we don't really need it.
And before i met anyone swedish in internet i had a feeling that they were kind of arrogant people who look down to us and think they are better than us. But i did meet swedish people in games and all which changed my point of view completely. However there is a lot of people who cannot do the same.

I suck at math too but I had to choose it over swedish. Otherwise I probably still wouldn't be graduated. Thank god it was removed from mandatory tests JUST before my high school ended.

Yes but, when have you ever seen Finland winning on it?
So they are mad because of Hockey and Eurovision.

I personally think winning both once is enough. And would you look at that. I'm happy!
Hurrit vittuun
I never understood what the big deal with the swedish language is, who the hell cares?
I, for one, am just glad that I can expand my language skills with one more.
I never bothered to learn swedish other than to get a grade in school. I have never had any use for it, even when I went to stockholm english worked perfectly.
Living 100km from the russian border and having lots of russian tourists over here all the time I'd rather know russian than svenska
As a Finn-Swede, I can say that this is complete bullshit.
There's a handful of towns that have more Swedish speaking than Finnish speaking.
These are like, Malax, Pietarsaari, Ahvenmaa, Närpes and like Hangö.
Apart from those 5 there ain't many more.
