STOCKHOLM (AP) — Swedish flat-pack furniture giant IKEA will start selling residential solar panels at its stores in Britain, the first step in its plan to bring renewable energy to the mainstream market worldwide. A standard, all-black 3.36 kilowatt system for a semi-detached home will cost 5,700 British pounds ($9,200) and will include an in-store consultation and design service as well as installation, maintenance and energy monitoring service. The solar panel investment will be paid off in about seven years for an average home owner in Britain, Howard said. "If you are going to be in your house that long, your energy will be free after seven years," he said. The U.K. government offers private solar panel owners the opportunity to sell back electricity to the grid on days when they have surplus production and has a financing plan for solar power investments, which means residents can buy a system for no upfront cost and pay it off gradually.
http://bigstory.ap.org/article/ikea-starts-selling-solar-panels-britain http://www.hanergy.co.uk/ <--- the company
swebonny why are they slicing bits of you off to sell
I'd love to have that.
Hot damn I always wanted a postmodern solar panel with several missing pieces
My house is already solar panel'd up, free energy when the sun is in clear view (Generates up to 3,500 watts). I believe there was a company going around putting them up for free, because they get paid by the government for all the extra energy that gets pushed into the main line.
Somewhat disappointing that you don't get to put it together yourself.
I really need to panel the roof of my house. If everyone did that, plus had one of those small windmills on their house everything would be so much easier.
Somewhat disappointing that you don't get to put it together yourself.
Maybe that's a good thing because imagine installing it upside down and wondering why it's not working.
This is great news... for the UK.
Let´s hope that there will be proper matience for the solar panels or fires will be widespread. [editline]30th September 2013[/editline] Source: There has been some big fires thanks to un-proper matience in my country.
Too bad the UK is one of the shittiest places for actually generating meaningful solar energy. It's cloudy most of the time(most areas near ocean are), and it's too far up north to get max efficiency.

I'd like to say that if you can see anything when you are outside and aren't using artificial light sources, Solar Panels will make use of it. Although apart from that, yeah, UK ain't quite the best place for it.
