I can't wait for all these cold texts we're about to recieve

Literally telstra public phones have had this since the early 1990's. I still cannot understand today why don't every other phone I.E private have this feature? But hey, I don't need my phone to be able to text or play games.

In my time if you had a modem you sent out pager message strings to a cellular number and the phone converted it to an SMS page.[/QUOTE] There's a better way now AT&T as an example <tn>@sms.att.com <tn>@mms.att.com Texts are just light weight emails after all, I'm fairly certain its the same protocols, just cut down

Its literally one packet, hence the character limit. Email is a little more complex, as its a normal TCP/IP based service.
