They are going to UK because they miss the old days back when the empire ruled. There was food, there was order, there weren't pricks running around shouting allahu ackbar and gunning down everyone who does replies back allahu ackbar, there weren't other pricks who went around killing others just because they spoke another dialect.
Ah, the good old fashioned days. Where's Cecil Rhodes when you need him?
I don't understand the fad either, what do they think is so great about the UK?
There's a lot of reasons, many which actually stem from the old empire.
The EU has made Europe weak with it's open borders, it's time either the EU is disbanded or let countries take control of their borders. A fence is a deterrent, not a resolution, a resolution would be to deport them straight away without legal proceedings, at the very least put them in the nearest safe country where they are from aka African\middle eastern country like Australia does with their issue, they are not European, they travel through safe countries to reach their destination.
It's not Europe's responsibility to those in Africa or the middle east, they often pay up to £2000 for a boat initially with plans to bring their family over if asylum is accepted. This is mass economic migration, not people in need, they need to know this is not an acceptable method of migration, the real people who need Asylum are the ones being effected here.
Newsflash - asylum seekers do not have freedom of movement within the EU and never had. Only those who have actually been granted asylum do. The problem is that the border states, where they have an obligation to remain are so swamped it will take them years to process all the applications, so they try to get to greener pastures and often try to avoid registration anywhere. Which is one of the reasons they're so hellbent on getting to the UK. The thing is, even if they did, they'd only be redeported again to the nation of the first crossing.
|The problem is, that those safe border countries are just going to let them on the street. They lack facilities to keep them anywhere so they often just let them at the nearest train depot - and off they go again.
Basically the first cross countries are doing this to put pressure on the states further in for more financing or being more proactive about the issue.
Because of all the benefits that they'd be entitled to and the fact the government is so lenient on them. Hell there have even been news reports of these migrants being given taxis to London...

Because if you don't grant them entitlement then you're racist.
They'd be entitled to more if they stayed in France. It's a myth that the UK is some magical haven for immigrants.
Why do they even want to come here anyway? I mean, surely, Italy, France, Greece, however many first-world countries they go through to get to Calais, why do they want to come here? If they truly feared for their life, I'm sure I'm with a lot of brits here and would gladly give them shelter and protection, but the fact they're going through multiple countries that would gladly welcome them in to get to ours just sounds like it's an economic thing to me.
Its because they speak English apparently. Makes sense in that sense.
