The Last Months of Lucasarts: Insight into what the studio was doing (New gameplay videos of what co

To be honest, the last 10 years or so of LucasArts is pretty tragic.
The last game they actually developed in-house/themselves was Force Unleashed II (correct me if I'm wrong). And that wasn't exactly too great of a game if I recall correctly, it was okay, average at best. Personally, I like many others think that LucasArts hadn't made an exceptional game since the prime time of the Adventure genre. The talent that had made most of those games had left shortly after also. I don't know if I'm being too harsh saying that they haven't made anything great in the last 10 years, but I feel that they really haven't. It's still very sad that this company has effectively just been pushed under the rug by Disney. I guess I should have seen it coming because Disney only really wanted LucasFilm just so they could make some new Star Wars movies. It seems that LucasArts was just about to make a bit of a comeback and Disney cut them off before they were able to even start.
1313 was more mature because you were going really deep into Coruscant.
You know, where the drug dealing and sex trafficking happens.
It was indeed a mature Star Wars game, and the game was a hype for everyone Star Wars fan or not.. cancelling the game was probably one of the biggest mistake they will ever make.
It doesn't really matter what was Lucasart's track record for the past few years. If the games turned out to be shit, awesome don't buy them.
Had it been a turnaround, then fuck Disney to hell. Cause demand for these types of Star Wars games are way higher then something like Star Wars Kinect.

You really underestimate the mix of casual and Star Wars market.
“It was very clear that we were kind of the redheaded stepchild,” said a source. “We kinda came along with the hot mom being the film properties.”
Awesome quote.
Ok its clear now Disney doesn't give a fuck about the star wars brand other than wanting to milk movies out of it.
I swear if I see another fucking star wars kinect or another shoddy made mmo I'm just gonna sit here, with a displeased look on my face. Because I can't do shit about their stupid production choices.

It also includes them cancelling Sam & Max: Freelance Police, which is pretty bad from their perspective, since it was the official death of LucasArts' adventure games. At the same time, that's the reason we have Telltale, and I think they made a better game than LucasArts was going to.
I had a feeling this had to with gun violence.
Disney continuing to publish Punisher MAX pretty much disagrees with you.

Punisher MAX ended. The last issue was published 11 months before Sandy Hook, which was what inspired them to take "a close look at the violence in their video games".
Then explain why they're still collecting it into trades then, ie publishing it.
Marvel is not exactly all puppies and sunshines and bunnies in its source material.
Ultimate may be done, but mature stuff from marvel isn't, there's no reason why the same wouldn't be true for a franchise where people get cut in half with laser swords on camera.
Disney just refuses to denote the context, when it's rather right in front and center.
People disliked Lucas for a lot of reasons but selling Star Wars to Disney has to be the only legitimate one. Especially with his reasons for doing it.
Disney has already said that the games that were in works are still likely to come out via licensing. Stop acting like it's a lost cause and show some interest and we just may see them released.
Also, they only shut down the development side of LucasArts, they still plan on licensing and making games, just not in-house. The only thing LucasArts had recently developed was the Force Unleased series.
So let me get this straight
they cancelled the successor to Battlefront 2
and laid off dozens of people
because of an outdated platitude that all games should be for kids and violent video games cause people to become murderers
and because the Newtown shooter happened to play video games on his spare time
despite there being dozens of studies that can barely prove that video games even cause aggression in most sane people
fuck
right
off
disney's always been more into anti-semitism than violence tbh

no?

i don't get why they cancelled 1313 when it was pretty far into development though, seems a bit retarded
[editline]11th April 2013[/editline]
but lucasarts hasn't made anything good in years so none of this is any big loss

Yah man, going full retard on your franchise with merchandising rights and horrible prequels don't count. It was only until he even went more retarded and sold it does it count now.
Fuck that Mickey Mouse Fuck! >:(
Buying LucasArts just to get rid of it.
It's almost like outbidding someone for a painting they wanted their whole life and then burning it right in front of them.
disney's always been more into anti-semitism than violence tbh
Family Guy has it wrong. Disney (as far as anyone knows) didn't hate Jews. Very few anti-semites have been named "Man of the Year" by the B'nai B'rith (they investigated him to find out for sure before giving him the award in 1955). They also very rarely donate to places like the Jewish Home for the Aged and Yeshiva University.

More correctly they bought LucasFilm and it was included in the package. And again, the only thing LucasArts had developed in this current generation was The Force Unleashed I and II, and apparently some Xbox Arcade game called Lucidity.
Most of the really popular Star Wars titles of the past were licensed to and developed by third party companies rather than LucasArts, and what Disney has done is shut down the development team and made their focus be licensing.

Its more like buying a house and tearing down the garden shed. Disney wanted LucusFilm, arts just came with it.

Where have they said this recently? I remember they said something like it before they cancelled these games, but that doesn't seem likely anymore.
I would've atleast waited for them to finish 1313
Really that game looked amazing

Around the time that LucasArts was shut down people immediately assumed 1313 and First Assault were canceled, but Disney told GameInformer shortly after that it was possible they would still release via licensing.
The short is, if people just accept that they're gone and forget about it, so will Disney. If people show support/demand for the titles, Disney will be more likely to seek to finish and release them. They are a company interested in money, after all.
