YouTube video shows angry Arab man attacking couple over public kiss

Arab's used to be advanced until Islam appeared as a religion.
''Europeans'' went past the Arabs in innovations and civilization overall.
Not saying they wouldn't have been catching up or keeping behind.
Why does the title have to mention that he was Arabic?
If it were a caucasian then the title would say "YouTube video shows angry man attacking couple over public kiss".
You do realise, that Arabs are classified as Caucasians?

This is a muslim country, you must behave yourself or I will bash you and I wear a skirt.
It may be so but you have to agree with that the gap between a nearly innocent joke and racial supremacy is huge.
This wasn't a 'nearly innocent joke', unless the guy who made it was incredibly ignorant to what the phrase means. Phrases like that are highly offensive, please don't tell me he was trying to make some sort of complex evolutionary joke because he wasn't, he was being racist.
I'm not. I'm trying to look past the question of racism and figure out why the person should be offended in the first place. As I said before, unless they have a bad confidence in their origins/heritage there's really no reason for them to take offense. But don't get me wrong, I don't think the insult is by any means right or should be accepted. I just really don't think insults based on origin are the same thing as believing one race is superior to another.
This entire discussion seems to stem from you being pedantic about the use of a word.

On topic:
By directing our anger at Islam we are doing this guy in the video a favour. This guy is a scumbag, using religion to justify his ridiculous actions. It is him we should be angry at - and all the other people like him, not Islam in general. Most people get this thankfully.

I guess we have different opinions then.
I just cannot grasp the logic behind considering "sand monkey" as racist. In Zero Hours post, he didn't talk down to Arabs in any way (I know, you say sand monkey is established racial slur against Arabs, but continue reading). His post was entirely humorous and not offensive in any manner (other than towards the person in this video because of his actions - not because he would have anything against Arabs or Muslims). Looking at the ratings he received I'd say others can agree with that. And I'm basing this judgement on what he wrote in his post. He might think badly of Arabs, for all we know he might even be the next Hitler, but this was not apparent in his post and it's why I think your interpretation of racism is fallible.
However the earlier post orcywoo6 made was definitively offensive as he generalized Arabs (or Muslims, or both, not sure) as something evil.

Ok, pedantic about the use of a word? I'm merely questioning peoples definition of racism today.
What an asshole. I really hate it when people Quickly resort to violence as a rule, but to quickly resort to violence and punch someone for doing somthing thats not even unpleasent, like showing affection for a partner, is totally uneeded. this guy needs to be put away if hes going to be randomly striking out at people for sharing a kiss or a hug, hes clearly dangerous and disturbed.

I don't understand. You said this earlier:
Referring someone to as a "sand monkey" (whatever that may be) sounds pretty discriminating and insulting to me.
So you do agree that is discriminating and insulting. But you don't agree it is a slur based on race?
Racism does not just mean someone feeling superiority over another race. Looking it up tells me it also means "hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.", how is discriminating and insulting language based on race not covered by this definition?
Not to mention the face that words are defined by common usage anyway, so if the majority of people say racist, it means racist.
So you do agree that is discriminating and insulting. But you don't agree it is a slur based on race?
I say it can be used as an insult. But out of context, I disagree with it being racial slur.

There are definitively cases where it can be. But I think in Zero Hours case dispatching it as racist just because he said "sand monkey" is out of context. If you read his post, you can see the joke (or insult) is directed against the Arab in the video, not the entire Arab ethnicity. Thus I can't see the racism in it.
If I simply said "sand monkey" without directing it at anyone, would you still consider it being racist? If not then you should understand my logic.
Also I think it is best we stop here. I don't want to piss off any mods with this derail.
But I think you understand my definition of racism and if not we can discuss further through private messages if you'd like. It's definitely an interesting discussion.

I can see what you are saying even if I don't agree personally, I guess agreeing to disagree it is then. But yes you're right we should stop, this sort of thing could go on forever.
