This. It's pretty explicit when you read on about a console when it says not to modify it.
but its just common sense that modifying something like an xbox to play pirated games is illegal you don't need to read the EULA to know something like that could get you arrested/fined
you wouldn't steal a car.
He modified his consoles to play pirated games? I don't see why you think he didn't do anything wrong.

accused of
yo
you wouldnt download a policeman
you wouldnt download a policeman
Even the internet gets in trouble.
you wouldn't disrupt court proceedings
He modified his consoles to play pirated games? I don't see why you think he didn't do anything wrong.
You act as if that's the only reason to do it. Most systems also have homebrew software; in fact, XBMC is the only reason why anyone mods original Xboxes anymore.
He isn't being arrested for modifying consoles, he's being arrested for selling modified consoles designed to play pirated software.
I'm sorry, what? I've heard of modified consoles being sold before, in fact a friend of my family does it for people, but I've never heard of modded consoles being designed to play pirated games.

[editline]03:02AM[/editline] Should have read the EULA.

Nobody actually mods their consoles without the intent of playing pirated games anyways, you take the risk of being caught when you pirate, and when you sell you're just begging to be caught.
Rapest, Peadophiles and people who commit manslaughter all get less than five years now. I known some to rape a disabled man and only get 7 months. It's a disgrace

Only in US you can jail a person for modding a console.
Only in US you can jail a person for modding a console.
No, it's international copyright law that he broke.
:ninja: One of my friends did this and he hasn't been caught yet
He isn't being arrested for modifying consoles, he's being arrested for selling modified consoles designed to play pirated software.
Well that explains a lot. All the huge penalties for piracy only seem to hit the people who upload/give out the material. Especially if they turn a profit from it.
Well that explains a lot. All the huge penalties for piracy only seem to hit the people who upload/give out the material.
Well, looks like the labs just came back and they confirm it, you've got a severe skull void. Prognosis: stupid.
A severe skull void could also be caused by autoimmune. I'm thinking lupus.
Last May, ICE agents executed a federal search warrant at Crippen's home, where they seized more than a dozen Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony video game consoles.
How much more obvious can it get?
do what you like just don't get caught.
Wow, America really knows how to crack down on crime. So far, they've busted some guys for some harmless drugs that should be our right to inhale in the first place, put a man away for yawning, and stopped an evil console modder. I'd feel safe living there.
No, it's international copyright law that he broke.
Law might be international, but punishment was US only. In other countries you would get fined at max.
Law might be international, but punishment was US only. In other countries you would get fined at max.
I'm fairly certain in saying the maximum sentence is not a fine.
I think the guy got what he deserved. Did they catch any actual pirated games on him? Because some people modify their Wii for the homebrew channel. Bad Reading ratings incoming
you wouldn't steal a car. yo
i wonder if the car theifs watch that ad and go 'HA'
If I could, I WOULD download a car.
