So it's a touch phone with handles?
If so, it might suffer the curse of the "virtual D-Pad" or whatever it's called, where the controls are displayed on the screen but you don't really get proper tactile feedback. Unless it has some weird system that simulates pressure with precise variable air currents, though while it'd give more tangible feedback it'd probably still feel rather ethereal, like touching a ghost with your thumbs.
Either way, it'd also probably cause a bit of trouble by covering up the screen if the UI isn't designed right.
360 controller is the king of all controllers
not with that SHIT excuse of a dpad
its also digital triggers sadly.
not good for racing (only 0% throttle or 100%) but the ergonomics are one of the best.
That's the only use case where analog triggers are even arguably an improvement, and even then I would disagree because you gain nothing out of analog for throttle, time held down on a digital button (you know, the kind that don't take a mile of travel to bottom out) is perfectly fine.
Wouldnt it be more interesting if the screen on the controller just had artwork from the game your currently playing show up instead of it being a touch screen?
not with that SHIT excuse of a dpad
Yeah, the d-pad makes using the controller for fighting games a joke.
Awesome! I can't wait for more gimmicks!
You know what the sad thing about nintendo is? The gamecube might be one of my favorite consoles of all time with some of my favorite games of all time. Unfortunately, it was nintendos worst selling console. The Wii? very little replayability. Some games are interesting for a few minutes when you've got friends over, but it's not a very good platform for traditional (non gimmicky) games. Of course, the wii exploded in sales so nintendo will follow that line of products.
I got my gamecube a bit after the release, about 10-11 years ago. Me and my brother still play it constantly when we are both at home from uni, it is pretty much the only console that still sees any action. We only ever had one game (smash bros) and fucking hell it never gets old. I can't even say I'm that good but it has given us so much enjoyment and it is pretty much a staple of our lives. If it ever dies, I'm buying another off ebay the next second and we are unlocking everything again.
I would love to have a TV now and a new gen console with the same controller and the insane fun. I'm tempted to give WiiU a try but again the gimmick controller and the lack of tv keeps me back. Also the games as you said are only fun if you have someone to play with all the time.

There's a Wii U gamecube controller adapter you can use for the newest Smash game
And there's the pro controller which is just a regular-ass controller

Shit man it has taken me a lot to convince myself against it. Don't break the spell.

Wait until mid next year if you want a Wii U. Smash Bros is nice, but it's not worth the $300 price tag.

Dual shock 4. Also my vita is really comfortable to hold I think.

That's a funny way to spell Steam controller. :v:
That's a funny way to spell Steam controller. :v:
I honestly can't believe the Steam controller is comparable to PS4 / Xbox controller designs.
I've always liked the Gamecube controller best, something about the button layout that works really well.
Just what I've always wanted a weird ass looking touch screen controller. Seriously Nintendo if you can't make a normal looking console/controller you won't get normal people to buy it. They only give a shit about appealing to kids. Don't forget all of your old school retro gamers who like normal looking controllers. I won't buy that shit. It looks like it's from a horror film. The GameCube controller looks good and so do Xbox and play station. Just make it feel normal! Not everything needs a touch screen.
Another idea of theirs that will fail.

what
There's a reason they've let you use any newer Nintendo controller for almost all Wii U games.
Also this is just a patent. There are countless weird gaming-related patents that don't go anywhere.

That screen is a screenshot from Turok intro cinematic, a N64 classic.

The Nintendo Wii had a retro controller that was kinda wireless (had to connect it to the nunchuck) and the game cube control could have easily been remade to be wireless. The retro controller looked like dog shit because it was wireless but with a wire (wtf is that shit Nintendo?!?!?!). Get with the program and hopefully they're next console will be truly next generation (design and graphics). They can still do Nintendo shit on next gen consoles. Make something that will get me to really consider your next console. The Wii u was okay but still the Xbox one and play station were the obvious choices. And for people that say that graphics aren't everything that is true but with next gen hardware you could have much bigger open worlds for Mario and Zelda and stuff like that so it's not all about the graphics you can do a lot more with next gen hardware. They wouldn't have to give up their art style either they would just have a lot more options when making games it's not like they have to give up everything that makes Nintendo Nintendo.
That's a funny way to spell Steam controller. :v:
everyone I know who has used or owns a steam controller absolutely hates it.
I personally think it's okay, I could get used to it easily but I prefer my DS4 over it.
Still, I'd rather have a billion buttons that'd all be physical, then I'd have to rub my fingers against something and pray that I'm doing it right.
There is still a turning point, where having contextual input (eg with a touch screen) is acceptable. Like a menu, or anything that's not really real-time dependent.

Coming from someone who, like yourself, thinks the gamecube was the best console and plays Super Smash Bros Melee all day I don't think the new smash is worth a new console. It's fun but I eventually stopped playing only after a couple weeks to go back to melee, or in my case now project M
Hey Nintendo, guess what you've missed in the past 10 years:
People hate touch screen controls, they are absolute donkey shit due to lack of physical feedback.
You wanna make a controller with a whole-touch surface? Here's a hint; Don't.
Couldnt you fix that with haptics?
360 controller is the king of all controllers
the 360 is outdated and feels like lumpy plastic. It WAS the king, but then it aged
the pro u controller after you degloss the entire thing and make it matte is objectively the best thing ever invented when it comes to consoles
after that the xbone controller is better than a glossy prou controller, but not better than a matte one
The Xbox One controller appears better than the Xbox 360 controller, but the question is is it worth it at anywhere from twice to three times the price of the Xbox 360 controller?
The Xbox One controller appears better than the Xbox 360 controller, but the question is is it worth it at anywhere from twice to three times the price of the Xbox 360 controller?
the xbox elite is three times the price of a steampad / xbone standard / ps4, so I know THAT isn't worth it. 150$ for slightly more features.
but the xbox 360 VS the xbone, people will get what they paid for. Cheaper and just as effective, the 360 will work just as fine, but it's much older than the xbone. Just depends on how much of a difference it makes to the buyee.
