This really has nothing to do with GamerGate besides the fact that she has "game developer" in her Twitter bio. This has to do with guitar pedals. E: And the fact that she up and donated the money to FemFreq.
Fair enough.
I can't tell, is this Devi Ever?
I can't tell, is this Devi Ever?
Yes.
Lets pretend that, magically, we injected 500cc's of "ethics" into "games journalism." How would that have prevented or impeded this lone individual from abandoning her kickstarter project?
Like I said, emphasis on developers acting like professionals would certainly make her think twice about sending thousands of dollars of backer money.
What bothers me is that she says she is in "ailing health."
ok fair enough, provide the proof. What did your doctor say?
I'll wait here.

Remember, the burden of proof isn't on her. She's allowed to make ridiculous claims and have her friends on Twitter jump on you for even questioning such a thing.

Who says it would? I just came here to laugh at a person disconnected from reality but now reality caught up with them fiscally.
It wouldn't.
However, the whole "GamerGate" fiasco has put a fucking huge-ass magnifying glass on the entire scene of "indie game dev," and it is that magnifying glass that more less ensures that dishonest actions like this will never fade into obscurity.
Are you implying that the abandonment of a $40,000 kickstarter project would have escaped public scrutiny if not for it's tenuous ties to "feminism?"
"indie game dev" was more or less a wild west before "GamerGate" shoved it front and center on the media stage.
And what, exactly, has changed (concrete answers please) since the appearance of gamergate apart from the fact that we now have enough twitter slapfights to last us through this winter and the next?
Like I stay out of the gamergate thread since I get banned whenever I make cool + funny posts in it but I skimmed it recently and it seems to me that gamergate is currently 100% about picking fights with people on twitter

Don't you see.
She can't afford getting diagnosed by a medical professional because of all the money she owes the IRS.
Which, by the way, is what I am more interested. What the fuck did she do to cause the IRS to come down as hard as she claims they are?
http://archive.today/YICbE]
You have to be a very special kind of retard to not pay off a fucking IRS debt with money you actually had.
Haha, idiot
I can't tell, is this Devi Ever?
Not anymore
Also this is completely unrelated to GamerGate what are you people talking about?

The Escapist publicly changed their ethics statement and practices, a large amount of advertising was pulled from websites like Gawker and Gamasutra, and money has been raised for multiple charities including one for anti-bullying.
But please, continue your condescending "lol you neckbeard losers lelelelel ethics!!!! XD" tone. And to think you used to be one of my favorite posters.

Where the fuck did "feminism" come into this?
And I am not saying that it wouldn't escape scrutiny without the event of "GamerGate." I am saying it most certainly would not escape scrutiny because of the event of "GamerGate."
The change is aforementioned magnifying glass. Everyone and their dog are paying attention now.
It's painfully apparent to me now you're going into this with a confirmation bias, trying to justify your own preconceived notions and reject anything counter to what you believe, though. So I won't pursue this any farther.
Why is it that when developers who happen to be female fucks up it's always >>>FEMALE<<< GAME DEVELOPER FUCKS UP and when male developers fuck up it's DEVELOPERS FUCK UP
And because she made the decision to donate to feminist charity this is somehow feminism's fault? Are you fucking kidding me?

If I were to guess, debt and taxes from her business. Previously she owned and operated a boutique guitar pedal business which was sold off to Dwarfcraft Devices but that doesn't mean all the problems from that disappeared for her.
Like pretend for a second that I have a rare, beneficial form of dyslexia which prevents me from reading twitter posts - is gamergate perceptible to me at all or am I like a colorblind man looking for a number hidden in one of those patches of colored circles?

Didn't pay taxes for a few years because you're incompetent?:
$15,000 in the hole.
I am going to restate this for a new page: this has nothing to do with video games or GamerGate. This is about a failed guitar pedal project.

The latter. 100% of this happens on Twitter, Tumblr, and Flickr.

Irrelevant, that never made her donate other peoples money to shit.

OMG STFU GG is not about those things you say! We are an important consumer revolt that has changed the face of the industry and we do not care about Anita!!!
Now if you'll excuse me I need to go back to the GG thread to talk about Anita's latest tweet :)
How, theoretically speaking, would more "ethics" in games journalism have prevented a woman from reneging on her non-binding agreement to deliver a return to her kickstarter backers? Pls don't get angry this is an honest question.
Gonna be honest: I don't think this is relevant to Gamergate at all. This is just some foolish person who made a mistake.
At least, I think that she's not allowed to do that. Even if it was for something like Charity: Water or anything else.

1.) I'm just saying that these indie developers are starting to be treated as public figures rather than nobodies on Twitter where they could say/do whatever they wanted. The spotlight is on them and arguably, they could get away with it. We've seen a lot of people get away with a lot recently. I don't know if she could do something as blatant, but she proudly declared where that money went because she felt that her friends/backers would support her. Obviously she felt she could get away with it and that's a major problem for the industry in general.
2.) Ethical guidelines for various media outlets such as Kotaku/Polygon have changed. Gawker Media has admittedly lost hundreds of thousands, "potentially millions" of dollars from advertisers pulling out. FTC came out and demanded that native advertising discloses such deals. Maybe not in direct response to #GamerGate but it got people talking about ethics and about Gawker Media's practices in general so I'm sure at some level, this came up.

If she were a more ethical person she would have returned the money to the original backers and faced the repercussions from that. It would have also been the much more superior decision for logical reasons.
People say "it's about ethics" but it's grown past that. It's evident that radical feminism/SJW culture is the root cause. Equality is great and all but the "equality" they preach is anything but. I don't have a problem with their culture existing alongside regular gaming culture (whatever that may be) but they aren't the type of people who should be in control of it.
Of course, the journalistic integrity of gaming journalism is shot to hell, and GG has proved even further that mainstream media is a bit of joke as well. Again, #notallnewsoutlets but the level it's reached speaks magnitudes of how ridiculous some journalists/news outlets are.

My guess is that the IRS probably isn't involved (but probably will be very soon; they're like Betelgeuse, say their name enough and they'll come) and she's just using its name to cover for not paying back her actual debts.

The only things truly affected by GG were a couple of sites on the internet (two thirds of which I never even heard about prior to this) so no, you won't notice it.

Probably not. It's a thing about corrupt journalism, of course you're not gonna read about it in the news. The FTC is actually confirming that they're revising some of their policies in the wake of Gamergate but you're not gonna hear about it from anywhere but social media, because journalists (understandably) don't want to talk about it.
And these FTC changes deal with the practice of hiding affiliate links. So you might not notice it but it's better for you as a consumer anyway.

That's what I'm getting from your analogy, and it's a shit one at that. If you're wondering why you keep getting this kind of unreasonable, uncivilised response from the people you engage, it's because when you engage them you choose to be as condescending as possible and never seem to read anything you can't make a zinger or yet another witty rhetorical question out of.
