Gentleman, you will always remember this as the day that Australia almost caught Captain Jack Sparro
theres a reason they are quarantined. yes terriers have the potential to fuck up the whole ecosystem. if they are carrying parasites or diseases that they are immune too, that native australian species aren't, rip.
Pistol and Boo are healthy though. And they've been kept under control the whole time, even before they were quarantined. They weren't running around everywhere free of supervision, spreading diseases and parasites. There's been no infections, no mass loss of life resulting from it.
I'm mostly annoyed here more than anything by the issue that it's Barnaby Joyce who's bitching about this; he's deliberately distracting from bigger threats facing Australia's biosecurity and its ecosystems-- like mining, fracking, logging and the general deregulation of Australian industry (i.e. his support for the repeal of the carbon tax)-- by talking tough talk about a couple of American celebrities bringing their two Yorkshire terriers unchecked into the country for a while.
(Barnaby Joyce, for those who don't know, is Australia's Minister of Agriculture. And he is a massive idiot who has even gone so far as to deny the effects of global warming for corporate interests.)

I get that preventing rabies and the spread of other infectious diseases is important, especially given Australia's uniquely secluded biological situation, but in this particular case, a couple of healthy Yorkshire terriers brought in secretly by two of the most famous American celebrities alive today doesn't warrant threats about euthanizing the dogs and massive fines and prison sentences.
It really isn't that big of a deal. The biggest threat to Australian biosecurity at this point doesn't lie in two spoiled American lapdogs; it lives within Australian government and commercial/economic interests.
I understand why these laws exist; but it's not the laws I'm upset about, it's the threats and how they're distracting from the bigger issues at hand for environmental conservation and preservation.
I'm a pretty big Labor supporter but honestly friendlyjordies makes his videos in a way where you think that every night he sucks Bill Shortern's cock before going to sleep
Here's the endgame fact, he broke the law, he pays the fine, and everyone moves on.
Regardless of what the minister has said, regardless of the Abbott government, regardless of how dumb the Libs are, regardless what anybody says, it's the law
He broke it, he could have fucked up our ecosystem and that's it
Pistol and Boo are healthy though. And they've been kept under control the whole time, even before they were quarantined. Yes nothing bad happened and nothing was spread, Depp kept them under control blah blah that's not the point. The point is the law is THE LAW, and the whole fucking point of laws are a deterrent to prevent bad shit from happening. If we let people get away with it, that's not much of a deterrent is it? If we don't throw the book at someone for breaking the law just because they're a celebrity, what message does that send? "Oh well you guys let him do it so I'm going to do it too." Next thing you know some rich fuck with his own private jet brings his own dog undeclared and lets it spread rabies and shit and bam. Our animals are fucked.
Why is it so hard for people to understand that you can't break the law because "you didn't mean to" or some other stupid shit. It doesn't matter if your dogs are healthy, it doesn't matter if you weren't aware of the law regarding ecosecurity and declaring animals, because law does not work on an absolutely singular basis where people can get a free pass because their situation isn't as bad as it could have been.
You commit a crime, you get penalized for it.
Regardless of whether or not the dogs are actually healthy, the fact is Depp willingly decided to NOT declare the animals, he made the concious choice to disobey the law, that should be the end of it.
Add the fact he's been here on many occasions in the past, this should be nothing new to him which makes it worse.
I do agree to some extent that in this specific situation the punishment is probably a little too much, but it's not like they decided to make it worse because he's Johnny Depp so they certainly shouldn't make it any easier either.
Am I one of the only few people that thought Depp simply had a lapse of judgement and forgot to declare his dogs?
Am I one of the only few people that thought Depp simply had a lapse of judgement and forgot to declare his dogs?
That is one hell of a lapse of judgement
he broke the law and he needs to find a way to make up for it like deporting the dogs back to america or something, but the government AND the press need to stop flipping 6 tits over it because there are a lot more important things than the "precious ecosystem" which is not at a massive risk now that things are getting cleared up. nobody's trying to defend him cause he's some a-list celebrity, they're trying to stop this tmz-style reporting from blowing overboard. still, i hope he brought them home this time.
on a side note did they really call him a boomerang.
HOLLYWOOD boomerang Johnny Depp left the Gold Coast last night, amid revelations he could face 10 years in jail for smuggling his two terriers into the country.
i still don't believe australia and it's language exist with shit like that
Last time I went to Australia, they had some pretty hard to miss signs in the airport about quarantine.
On another note
How the fuck is this man
[t]http://blogs-images.forbes.com/hughmcintyre/files/2015/02/Johnny-Depp.jpg[/t]
almost 52 years old
I thought he was like 35-40 at most!
Without makeup and Photoshop effects, nobody would recognise him.
Australia's ecosystem is very delicate. It's evolved separately from most of the rest of the world for hundreds of years, and they're trying to avoid a repeat of what happened in the Americas, where almost all of the native species were wiped out or heavily damaged.
Uhh, Australia's ecosystem is a burning wreckage filled with invasive species and no real plan for getting rid of them. They have open season year round on a wide variety of animals and still make zero headway.
Meanwhile the US and Canada are the poster children for wildlife conservation and use the North American model fo r wildlife conservation, which is viewed globally as being unrivaled.
Can't speak for central America. South American has likely suffered a pretty decent loss, but largely due to logging.

Yeah, those Indians had it really bad.
Has Depp given his side of the story yet? I'm curious as to what his reasons for not having them inspected.
I wonder how this is going to affect the production of the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
Disney must be pissed.
Heh, can just imagine every scene they film with Johnny Depp in, and his hand going off the frame in each shot as the director tries to hide the handcuffs he's locked in with another police officer :v:
Remember The Mummy Returns how the Rock had to go back to wrestling before they finished filming his scenes?
CGI Depp.
It's not 10 years for two dogs.
It's 10 years for not listening to the fucking government of a sovereign nation when they tell you "When you visit and you bring pets, they must be inspected prior to leaving the airport terminal for disease and parasites"
Exactly this. Pretty fucking simple rules to follow. Whether he brought in dogs or a fucking pet rat in is irrelevant. Depp obviously thought he should be above the law just because he is rich/famous and has a private jet. There's no other excuse and the law is pretty clear on this matter.
The potentially maximum jail time and the high fines are there to indicate that this is an issue we take seriously. The likelihood that the maximum penalty would be imposed in this case in non existent. 'Megadave' is just arguing with emotion and an uninformed view, which explains his dumb argument.
Shit country, shit ecosystem.
