I've been chugging coke, and not brushing the proper two times a day, for 20 years. No cavities nothing. Don't think she really had such bad teeth. [editline]5th January 2014[/editline] I'm sorry, I just forget about it :(
My mom basically didn't bother brushing my little brothers teeth ever, whilst letting him eat sweets and drink soda and whatnot. The effect was that his teeth were literally brown/black and little more than just studs. It was actually horrifying. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--9dua6Bw-QM/UF6vfliQwHI/AAAAAAAAAFA/mnsujjdjEvs/s1600/Picture+001.jpg It looked kind of like that, except they were way more brown/almost black. He was about 3-4 years old at the time. I do not believe the op article was a scam at all.
Teeth are weird. My dental care regime is admittedly terrible, the most i manage usually is some mouthwash in the morning. But at 24 i have never needed any dental treatment, at all. I visit my dentist every 6 months for a check up (have all my life) and the hygienist always congratulates me for taking good care of my mouth, and inside I'm thinking 'lol jokes on you'. I know someone who is exactly opposite, brushes twice a day but still seems to need a route canal every 2 months.
Never had any compliments, always need a teeth cleaning when I'm at the dentist, but no cavities nothing, just plaque removal once a year. I need to start brushing regularly.. It really sucks when stuff like this happens. Like, that girl had a long life ahead of her and it just got ruined by some questionable oral care.
I used to not brush reguarly(every day) for about 5-7 years. Regret is huge as I went for a control once to the dentist and I had like 6 cavities and even though I've brushed alot since then, still like 3 years after I still get alot more cavities(that might be my teeth being soft though but I also need to stop drinking alot of soda, even if I drink with a straw).
From personal experience having my wisdom teeth out was the worst surgery I ever had, I can't even imagine having an infection in your mouth!
I had a Root Canal. The procedure itself wasn't terrible, and I had absolutely 0 pain afterwards, at all. Didn't even need the Hydrocodone. But the pain before the op was so bad, I just had to go and get something to dull it. I couldn't make it two more days until my dentist appointment. So I went to the hospital, they gave me a shot of Marcaine which is just Novacaine that lasts about 5 hours, and 2 Tylenol. $600. But god damn I had tears just leak out of my eyes from the instant relief of the shot, even though it still only numbed me about 90%. 5 hours later I was unable to even sit still again though
Dental fillings in milk teeth? The fucking hell?
I'm 19 and I still have one milk tooth. Two years ago, I had another one which had a dental filling. There are no definitive teeth under those, so I have to keep them in place for as long as possible.

I had a dentist named Dr. Swisher The first time we got there and I saw his name on the front of the building I was laughing so hard, perfect name for a dentist.
It's still a scam since those teeth will all have fallen out in two years time???
Do you have any idea how much tooth ache can hurt? Like, you can't sleep, you can't think, you can't eat because you have this constant direct pain in your gums. It's not minor. Plus what others have said, shit can get infected and spread to the rest of your body. It can also start ruining your gums and future teeth, too. The guy was most likely not a scam. He was an idiot, but unless I see some proof, there is no reason to believe it was a scam.
Chewing gum, cures all ailments tooth-wise. But yeah, i haven't touched a toothbrush for actual tooth usage in over 10 years.
Could be that you have a high resistance to cavities but you're probably going to get bad gum disease by age 30, and I'm talking the point of no return gum disease
Sinp
Ten cavities? Didn't they teach her to brush her teeth at all? Christ. .
To be honest as a kid I never brushed mine because I have that gag reflex from tooth paste. I ate a lot of chocolate and drank a lot of soda too, but my teeth remained healthy. Even now I'm only missing my 6s (I think you call them wisdom tooth or whatever) and that's because the dentist fucked up 6 times so after the 6th filling failed I had to get them pulled out, and that's only because there wasn't any more tooth left from him drilling 6 times and filling it up again and that happened in a lifespan of like 2 years. Some people have stronger teeth and some don't.

Because that is some disgusting fucking shit.
Could be that you have a high resistance to cavities but you're probably going to get bad gum disease by age 30, and I'm talking the point of no return gum disease
Yeah, that was the main thing that changed my habits, the teeth can be fixed but if the gums are stuffed you have bad problems.
This is a prime example of why we can't trust doctors every time, cause they'll do shit like this to get money out of gullible parents when they're gonna lose those teeth anyway. And look, this time it ended in disaster.

Dental hygeine and well-being is critically important since it's is some of the worst pain a human being can experience, and the diseases you can get can be life-threatening. Not to mention that problems with the baby teeth could have the potential to impact the formation of the adult teeth.
One example of a bad dentist (by which I mean grossly incompetent) doesn't mean all dentists are bad. Hell, my current dentist is the nicest guy ever, and is insanely good too.
Idk man, because of my ordeal I'm scared as shit to go back to any dentist, bad past experiences tend to give you an irrational fear, I honestly never want to see a dentist ever again. And the guy has a point though, if he went through anything like myself, he'd probably agree that its better to have all your teeth rot than having your face fucked up for most of your childhood.
I had a bad irrational fear too, but I got over it (As blunt as that sounds, it's true) Actually going to a good dentist showed all the fears I had were unfounded, and now my only problem going is that I find myself nearly falling asleep while having work done.
This thread made me realize with horror that I was far from on top of my dental regime, so I got out my toothbrush and gave my teeth a knacking good clean, and intend to stick to it! I also tried a year-old mouthwash in the process that seemed to be totally fine. Thanks, Facepunch!
To collect insurance money, I recall seeing a news article about it before. Some scumbag dentists will lie about issues with patients and force them to have procedures, and this was in a childrens dentist office as well. EDIT: Found one of them, http://www.nieman.harvard.edu/reports/article/100963/Revealing-How-Dentists-Profit-By-Abusing-Children.aspx
Right now I am on state funded health care and recently I had to go to a new dentist. This dentist only accepted the health care I am on. After the check up they told me I had to get 6 teeth filled and my four wisdom teeth pulled. That struck me as really odd because 6 months ago I was at my past dentist and there were no problems. Granted I don't floss that much, but the fact that 6 fillings were needed and wisdom teeth pulled, it just didn't add up. So I went to another dentist and payed out of pocket, nothing was wrong at all. I asked about my wisdom teeth and he said, "They aren't coming in yet. You probably have 2 or 3 years at least." I told him about the other dentist because he asked why I asked and he told me, "Yeah I've heard reports of them milking state health care patients because the state really doesn't investigate. It's awful and he should lose his license over it." Now we don't know for sure if this girl was getting milked or actually had issues, but regardless it's a damn shame dentists can get away with abusing the system.
Chewing gum, cures all ailments tooth-wise. But yeah, i haven't touched a toothbrush for actual tooth usage in over 10 years.
I'm jealous. I brush and floss after every meal and I've still had to have 3 fillings.
I'm a walking example of why i think this is kinda odd. Haven't brushed my teeth or flossed in 10 years, yet i've only had one cavity filled and nothing more.
Your teeth will fall out FYI. Doesn't matter shit if your teeth are fine, your gums need to be cleaned and taken care of, stimulation for blood flow with a toothbrush, strengthening them with the ingredients in toothpaste and mouthwash. If you haven't fucking brushed your teeth or flossed your gums in 10 YEARS!! you're gonna get such a horrid gum disease that all of your teeth will fall out and most likely other bad shit will happen. You're playing with your own health here stupid
do you not have any sort of getting-ready-for-bed routine? i.e. shutting down your computer, changing into pyjamas etc. if you really want to get into the "habit" then start setting yourself a little routine in the morning and in the evening. if you shower in the morning then just grab your toothbrush, paste it up and take it on in there with you - it's good fun when you can dribble everywhere and get super clean teeth at the same time. and as for night time, do you have to pee before you go to bed? if so then make a really big effort to just brush your teeth whilst you're in the bathroom, and hopefully soon enough it'll start becoming something you'll automatically go to do, your future dental health would be pleased!
No, I have no routine at all. I just flop into bed when tired and flop out of bed when not. The only reason I managed to get myself into the habit of bathing regularly was because I was able to find a massive book, and make myself only read it in the bath. Since I ended up wanting to continue reading it, I would take baths pretty much every day. I'm sure it'll stick eventually, but it's getting to that point that's hard.
I forget to brush sometimes I feel dirtier than a fifty cent whore when I wake up afterwards, more than enough reason to keep me brushing.
She's fucking 3, and baby teeth generally fall out around age 5 or 6 anyway. Why the hell would you give someone that age 4 root canals and 10 fucking fillings.
Dentists like money
This is why I still haven't had my wisdom tooth removed.. Even though my face is swollen and I'm in constant pain every day... [sp]actually my voucher hasn't been approved yet. BUT THESE STORIES DON'T HELP ME ANY.[/sp]
Wow you're almost 100% sticking with the greasy basement dweller stereotype
Well, I'm not fat and I'm down one (neck)beard. At this point, I'll take every step away from that as I can.
Well if it offers any closure, the dentist office closed down and the dentist is stopping her practice today. http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/24391027/dentist-blamed-for-kailua-girls-death-closes-practice As is expected really.
